  1. That's Thomas Anders of course..
  2. Hi friends! This holiday season I wanted to reward myself with a little something. It's a "franken" Rolex Datejust 16233 made with genuine Rolex bits and pieces including solid 18K bezel ring and crown, dial, crystal, and case. It also has a very accurate datewheel with correct open 6s and 9s, as well as a perfectly-aligned cyclops - something I've never seen done "just right" on out-of-the-box reps. Its hands are actually sourced from a Tudor. The sporty looking oyster bracelet is made with pure 14k gold midlinks, though they are hollow on the inside - which I am told is correct given this particular reference. It is powered by a professionally regulated Swiss ETA movement and keeps great COSC time. I'm enjoying it very much, as the classic DJ design is one of my absolute favorite examples of the brand. Seeing the new '08 and '09 versions compound my belief in the phrase "they just don't make them like they used to"... and this couldn't be more true for Rolex. Note, I didn't put this watch together myself, rather I acquired it from a local member right here on RWG. Some of the photos are dark, but its not my fault because I shoot exclusively with natural light... and the bleak Canadian weather is not giving me much to work with lately. ...and the obligatory wrist-shot of course: I hope you enjoyed this little pictorial! When it gets a little sunnier outside I'll try and take some pictures in the snow, because as if it wasn't fantastic enough already, the watch is also supposed to be waterproof. Happy Holidays Corgi
  3. I will make a detailed post about this masterpiece just as soon as I finish shoveling the seemingly never-ending torrent of snow outside.
  4. Howdy and a big welcome from the nation's (snowy) capital!
  5. Are you a Dieter fan too, Brian?
  6. The "scam" is that anyone can invent whatever retail price they imagine for their products, and then sell it at whatever discount they imagine thereafter. For example I could poop in a jar and then tell you it's worth $20, which is a great value because normally, it's worth $20,000. Get it? Just because I say something is worth some amount doesn't necessarily make it "valuable" to that extent..
  7. Holidays came a few days early yesterday :-)
  8. It's always nice when a newcomer makes a quality post with some great pictures!
  9. I'm just kidding... you know There's no such thing as a "dealer who has access to THE BEST Breitlings" because all of the dealers on our forum pretty much all have access to the same stuff. You also need to understand that a high-quality Breitling rep will cost you somewhere along the lines of $250-$400. Unless you want to be a joke, forget quartz movements - the Asian 7750 chronograph movement, in the standard layout, is a phenomenal thing so long as you are gentle with it and don't abuse the chronograph too much by running it too often. As for which Breitling rep is the most high quality, there are quite a few - but many people really praise the Super Ocean Steel Fish and the Skyland. The Navitimer and chrono evolution have datewheel flaws. That is just scratching the surface of what is available though.
  10. Please let me give you some advice. Do not impulse buy. Visit the specialized Breitling section of this forum and read read read. Go to the genuine website and read. Go to timezone and read. Read read read... learn learn learn. Then when you find a model you like, research dealers, and until you know what things like "drop shipping" are don't buy anything, unless you want disappointment. Also - pay big attention to date-wheels on the reps. That should be a big clue of whether a rep is good or average. Good luck and remember there are lots of folks here who I consider experts in Breitling watches who are more than willing to help.
  11. Well, considering that Rolex now manufactures their midlinks completely solid 18K gold, the weight will likely be off. Depending on the type of plating, you might see gentle fading on the inside of the bracelet and prolonged wear during strenuous activity might turn your wrist green.
  12. This one made me pull a "laugh out loud" as the kids say!

    YM Gen Dial?

Aren't Yacht-master dials made of Platinum? Wouldn't that be expensive?
  14. I love that simple, clean, masculine design. It looks like you put a lot of effort into this watch, and it paid off!!
  15. I bought myself a watch with solid gold. But I'm still waiting for it to arrive. I'm also considering buying a Blackberry... but I think it's one, too complicated, and two, over-priced (especially the service charges here in Canada).
  16. These are the kind of happy stories that make me smile time and time again. RWG is such a special place with so many special people (the good kind of special).
  17. That rose gold VC with power reserve is a really accurate rep of the 1755 jubilee... nice watches!
  18. Maybe this is made with the Asian market in mind... there seems to be a tendency to like these kinds of things over there.
  19. My watch adventure began very recently with my first rep...
  20. When it's a special event, like a wedding or family gathering, I think most of us want to wear something that is close to our hearts - at least in terms of watches. I have no idea what kind of pants I'll be wearing that day (if any) but I know damn sure I will be wearing a dressy grand complication watch.
  21. I'm hoping and hoping hard that my solid gold franken DJ will arrive before the holidays so I can wear it.... if not then I will probably just wear the tourbillon. That's a genuine fox pelt, by the way (sorry PeTa members) I can't wait to see what everyone else is wearing... I guess it's holidays and weddings when we see the "best of the best" !
  22. Now this is more like it. Let's hope they rep this model.
  23. Pretty funky watch but I think the placement of the lume upon the hour markers is a little imperfect. Some of them (4:00) look a little crooked... maybe it's just the angle of the photo. I've always wanted a UN watch but I don't think I'll be getting this one, unless someone comes up with more convincing photos that is. Also: I wonder how much this will cost?
  24. Chief, that photo is amazing; what astounding detail!
