The crystal is genuine sapphire and does have A.R. The A.R. is not exagerated but barely noticable from certain angles. I.M.O. the subtle A.R. is correct for the 111h

Today I took my davidsen crystal to my watch smith to have it installed (PAM111h). When I picked it up I saw directly there where scratches on the crystal, but he said it was just dirty and needed to be cleaned. After cleaning the crystal, it was more then clear that it was not dirty but scratched serverly. He denied having any thing to do with the scratches. The crystal is sapphire so I doubt that the crystal itself is scratched, I think the A.R. layer must have been scratched out of the box or during installation. Questions: He said that he never came near to the back of the crystal, he said that the crystal is pressed from front downwards and there is no contact what so ever with sharp objects and the back of the crystal -> is this true? Has anyone recieved a davidsen crystal with scrathes out of the box? Is there a way to remove scratches from the A.R. coating, or remove the A.R. coating all together?

I don't think reluming is a standard dicipline that all watchmakers master. Before The Zigmeister, pinepics, palp and rbj started luming the only place know for reluming was Jack from IWW.. As for the other work... wha a sorry excuse for a watchsmith... Asshat...

Wow E.L., You must be pulling our legs, a couple of months ago you where boasting that you owned a gen Graham Chrono Fighter... I don't see a dainty looking girl as pictured wearing a monster like a Chrono Fighter on those ini-mini wrists.... I am seldom attracted to Asian types, but the (surrogate) girl pictured is a true gem with a beautiful smile...

Berathtaking watch... Panerai should be crapping in there pants... The small second GMT is probably one of the most difficult PAM's to make movement wise. The makers of this moddel have probably gone to extreme lengths to copy/modify a movement that supports a small seconds and a GMT indicator. If they can make this then they can make any PAM on the face of this earth... Check this thread out... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=8721

A few minor flaws or not... This pam is drop dead gorgeous... Major props to the makers, I never though they would pull a acurate small second PAM gmt off....

Nice watch.. I think this is as good as it gets....

Don't like the idea that the couch strap has been farted on by stragers...

Be patient with Finepics, he is very busy, he will contact you in sooner or later...

Could you describe jimmy's crystal in more detail. I bought a crystal from jimmy a year ago for a friend. At the time the crystal was advertised as sapphire but was tested by my watch smith to be mineral crystal. It had a hardness of 3.5 while sapphire has a hardness of 9. It also looked cheap, like clear glass to me, no A.R. what so ever. This was a year ago maybe he has changed his tune. I would really like to know what the experience is of other members on jimmy's crystal. BTW: His other parts are of marvelous quality.. I have bought all his parts for a project PAM, case, bezel, CG and palp crown and wanted to fit a davidsen crystal, but it won't fit jimmy's case. The davidsen crystal is 35.5 yet jimmy's case and bezel take a 36mm crystal. Only 0.5mm of difference but the gap is to great, the crystal flops right through the bezel.... I have two options.. to go with a all jimmy configuration (inc crystal)., or to keep the rep case with davidsen crystal...

I am not an expert on this subject but what I know about crystal installation is that the crystal don't simply pop in. Crystals fit very tight to the bezel, this is needed for the watch to be waterproof under pressure. The crystals fit so tight that they need to be pressed using a crystal press. You also need some skill and experience to select the right dice for the crystal you are going to install, further more you need to be able to align the crystal perfectly to the bezel. My watch guy charges about 20 euro to do the job, I guess the most will charge similar. If you want to do it yourself because you like tinkering with watches and plan to make this a serious hobby first invest in a good crystal press and practice on some cheap watches and only attempt to replace your PAM crystal if you can accept the consequences of ruining a hand, a dial or a crystal... If the replacement of your crystal is a one timer take it to your watch guy... Here another members experience on D.I.Y. crystal replacement, the right tools and some comments by an experience d watch smith... Hope it helps. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...l=crystal+press

Is the davidsen 35.5mm saphire crystal form 44mm PAM better then the standard crystal installed on the latest generation swiss movement 44 Luminor Marina PAM's? Is the davidsen crystal made from higher grade saphire and is the AR coating better then the standard PAM crystals, or the same?.... Is it worth it to upgrade to a davidsen crystal, or not...

Excellent choice, one of the nicest dials I have ever layed eyes on. But why did you order it unassemled? If something goes wrong while assemling it's coming out of your pocket? -

Trusty's G Series Engraved Movement...
ravishingrick replied to ahchard's topic in General Discussion
I have taken my 111h with swiss ETA 6497 apart for modding/reluming. I pulled the canon pinion out with a hand remover for replacement only to come to the conclusion that the original canon pinion was is fact a long one. (canon pinion -> 3.14mm, hour wheel 2.16mm both measured with a digital caliper). No canon pinion and hour wheel replacment was needed, only a modification or replacement of the hands is needed to fix the reccesed pin fix on the new movements... Pics of canon pinion that where installed by default. Sorry cant take any measurements\pics of the default hands because they are on there way to an artist for reluming. -
You've got a winner... The best looking strap for the 187 I have seen thus far...

You took my advice, and are wearing it well! Looking gorgeous on your whrist Clive. It gives me allot of satisfaction to read your enjoying this watch so much. Also thanks for the positive feedback on the forum! Regards RR.
