  1. My first mod! The gen dial adds so much more quality because of the deeper waves and better lume. In the process I also updated the movement with a sealed swiss ETA 2824.
  2. Recently switched movement, dial and hands of my rep SMP. Now I´m in the mood for updating the bezel as well. Cousins sell http://www.cousinsuk.com/default.aspx?disp...roductid=437301. Will this bezel fit 1:1 on the rep case or is this just a waist of money?
  3. I don´t have a decent camera other than the one in my cell phone. But let me see if I can borrow one. This dial is so great that I really want this baby on a pic myself..
  4. Your articles where the reason I got to open the keyless work it in the first place..
  5. After pushing the stem release with a too small screw driver I had to open the keyless work of an ETA 2824. I managed to get everything back and tested it with the stem back in. Setting the time works, winding works. However, the date wheel slips and I can hear that something is not right. I hope someone can help... (As a back up I think I will order a new movement and use this one for further learning. Guess I´m going to like this.. )
  6. Hi all. Are movements (ETA 2824-2) ordered at Ofrei or Cousins already oiled and serviced when delivered? When do they need servicing? I´m considering swapping my SMP´s ETA 2824 movement for a new movement. Seems cheaper (and more fun to do) than having the old one compelety serviced.
  7. The Cousins dial appeared to be the right one for the automatic (with ´chronometer´). Seems that they put the wrong pic on their site. I got lucky So I just finished my first mod ever. Pfffieuw, that was some nerve breaking time... But in the end it turned out very good. The gen dial is much better than the rep.
  8. Hmmm, not too bring up an old discussion again, but how ETA is an AUTOMATIC ETA 2836-25j? Isn´t the 25j just a Chinese copy of an ETA movement like the Asian 7750 is a copy of the ETA/Valjoux 7750?. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...9313&hl=25j
  9. Unfortunately Cousins already sent out the order with the Quartz dial. However, they are going to look for the automatic dial, but need the case number (inside + outside) + movement number. They probably think I have a gen Omega, so I don't know what to answer. Does anybody know either what the official part number is of the automatic dial or what the case numbers and the Omega calibre equivalent for the ETA 2824 are?
  10. O boy... Well, guess this place is all about learning.
  11. Hi all, Just ordered a gen dial & hands (h/m/s) for the SMP and also some precision screw drivers and a hand removing tool. This is going to be my first mod, so I can use some help. I already studied The Zigmeister´s topic of removing the 2824-movement from the case. How do I proceed from here? Will the hands get out easily with the removing tool, how do I put the new ones in and in which order, what are the problems I can expect? My first step into modding!!
  12. Hey guys, thnx! Just ordered dial, hands, screw drivers and a hand removal tool. OMG what have I done?! @ajoesmith: that avatar....
  13. Hi all, I'm planning to buy a gen SMP dial and hands for my rep (Precious Time version) at Cousins. However, from their site I'm not sure which version I need. Is this the right dial? http://www.cousinsuk.com/default.aspx?disp...roductid=437304 Which hands (hour, minute, sec) do I need? I also mailed my questions to Cousins and they asked me for the case number and caliber number. I'm not sure if they now think I own a gen....?? Thnx for helping! @admin, please move this topic to watch repair if this is not the right area
  14. I went to an AD last week and had the chance to compare my SMP rep to a gen in the window. O boy, that is a difference in dial indeed. But the solution is there.. I´m going to buy an aftermarket gen dial and have the rep dial replaced. It´ll cost some, but still cheaper than buying the gen. I also found out that the old version has the white lines around the hour markers and the new co-axial version has the silver lines and logo. Also the wave patterns on the new version appear even stronger to me.
  15. Hey thnx! The needle did the job. Fortunately getting it back was an easy thing to do.
  16. Hmmm, I don´t get the springbar out of the clasp. I used the pins of the links I removed on both sides and pressed it, but nothing happens. What do I do wrong? Hope you guys can help...
  17. Today I went to the AD to see possible differences between gen and rep. I have the mushroom Link Chrono. I too noticed that the gen 'shines' more than the rep on the dial. When I looked closer it seemed to me that the color of the outside ring of the dial is more 'silverish' than mushroom while on the the rep the whole dial has the same mushroom colour. I don't know if this is the same with the blue version. Has anybody else noticed that their are 2 colours on the gen mushroom dial?
  18. Just my small contribution to this thread. I'm new to the game so I really don't know anything about movements. However, I do know a bit about math.... Took this list off Ofrei: - ETA 2824 $ 86,- - ETA 2834 $ 67,- - ETA 2892 $ 254,- - "Unitas" 6497 $ 75,- - ETA 7750 $ 315,- - ETA 7750 decorated $ 430,- - ETA 7753 $ 496,- Obviously, prices will go down when buying more units. So when an ad says 'This ultimate watch with Swiss ETA 2892 for $ 250,-', I bet the movement has nothing to do with any ETA whatsoever...... @ pugwash: thnx for bringing this discussion up! @ TTK: thnx for having the balls to enter this thread!
  19. Hi all, Has anybody already figured out how the micro adjust of the Link bracelet works? I´ve resized the bracelet according to By-Tor´s perfect instruction. But the bracelet is either too loose or too tight. I only need a half link shorter and since the Link doesn´t have half links the micro adjust might do the trick. Cheers, Patrick
  20. Hey Centurion, I had the same with my first online WU transfer. After I finished the internet procedure I received a mail that I should call the customer service to finish the procedure. Than I got a lecture about how dangerous it is to send money to people that I don't know and they advised me to cancel the transaction. However, after I said that I still wanted to continue the procedure they made the payment to my dealer. That said, I can imagine that they are warning people. There's been an extensive abuse of WU-transactions for Ebay scams. There's never any guarentee that you will receive the goods after payment and you will never get a refund from WU. That's why services like Paypal exists. However, they deliver protection for the buyer, not for the seller. This is a risk for a seller who can loose his money after sending the product. Nice catch, isn't it? Anyway, my first payment with my preffered dealer was with WU. That earned me enough trust with him to use PayPal for upcoming orders. Cheers! P.
  21. Hey Rob, take a look at this: http://www.chronocentric.com/omega/seamaster.shtml#modelid Hope this will help. Wear it well!
  22. @flavorflav: thnx for the tip!!! Just put the grease on the rotor of my new Link Chrono and all the noise is gone. Only when I put my ear on it I can hear it rotating smoothly as it should. Here´s definitely a happy fellow
