  1. If you have a dremel drill press you could use calipers to mark the exact location to drill. If you cant do that you could always drill another set as long as your VERY careful. If you chose this you would have to change spring bars and adjust end links. You cold always just drill some dummy holes 3/4 the way through. Have fun looks like you've already took the back off the watch so youll probably have no problem as a modder.

  2. Looks to be a fairly nice watch. The only thing I see that stands out is the acrylic crystal stands a little high and date mag is a little low. My first gen was a 77 TT maxi dial. This model may accept a gen crystal but you need to take the bezel off to be sure. Lug holes are a problem.

  3. Me too....but first I want my 1665 :whistling: ..Nudge..nudge...wink...wink....say no more...say no more....

OK...enough subtle hints to our MBW master.

I do have a question. Just what does the MBW label mean these days? If this is an MBW and carries the reputation of the watches from that mythic producer, will it accept genuine parts? From what I have been told, only the 1680 and 1665 MBWs are OEM interchangeable pieces. These modern MBW subs will not accept OEM crystals, have to be drilled and tapped to accept OEM case tubes and crowns.....so what's so MBW about them besides place of origin?????

My 16613 from andrew accepted a gen after market crystal. They will not accept a rolex seal the cases are different in that respect.

  4. no, definitely not.

you will need quite some parts tho, like crown, dial, bracelet

Ad states it will accept a VJ72 so it must be a copy of that case look at the measurements. That or theres two cases on the market that accept a VJ72 now.

  5. Yeah, you took some nicer words, than I did :p

Ok, I change my statement into: It would have been a nice watch, if it was bought 2 years ago.

    Cheers

    Idiot oops - Micky

Sorry for the comment. Its just we all have to start out somewhere. That watch with a nice dial, date wheel and a better date mag would be a pretty nice watch. Im not sure if hes seeking to be a modder. I imagine he is since hes posting here.

  6. Don't know, how to say it in a way that doesn't harm your enthusiasm for your new toy. but... - I can see some more flaws. To be honest, I can't see anything, but flaws.... Case, crown, CG's, clasp, dial-printing, hands, date-font - everything looks a bit like a SUB - but that's all.

Sorry mate, but you asked... Hope, you didn't gave to much money for it.

It was the same with me, some years ago. I bought my first SUB and was really happy with it, until the moment, when I came to compare it with other reps and genuine ones. Suddenly I knew, I was scammed <_<

No offense meant, believe me, I have a bad conscience by writing this. But I think the usual nice-watch-wear-it-in-good-health-blabla would be unfair...

    Cheers and welcome aboard,

    Micky

Micky your a idiot!! Yes the dial, date wheel and date mag suck. The case, crown guards, deep rehaut and bracelet are nice. You could mod this watch with a new dial, date wheel and it would go along way to making it a nice watch. The only major unchangeable flaw is the lack of rehault thickness. This watch uses the older style crystal.

  7. I would figure that the date wheel is silver, but when you take a picture of it, it shows up as white. My 78 gen has a silver datewheel. Also, the crown is the 24-702 triplock- the one where the case tube doesn't have the outside o-ring- original to the watch. And the 9315 bracelet is also original.

But man, $10,995- wow, that's mucho dinero! I guess Rick is out there elephant hunting. He may not get much, but when he does, he'll be in fat city for a long time!

WOW, your gen has a silver date wheel. Please post close up shots of this. Mines a circa 1972 white with a white date wheel. Im very interested to see the color of silver rolex used (whether its gloss or flat). As with most watches posted on the net he didn't post close up pics of the silver date wheel so it remains a mysterious rolex anomaly.

  8. Nice 509 Tony. Nice layout with the box & paperwork.

Here is mine (about 6 months old)

And the rest of the Rolex Chrono clan

    265129-4707.jpg

" Rolex Chrono clan" Impressive collection of predaytona's. If Im not mistaken those are the 37mm models that Andrew use to carry. I missed out, I ordered two and Andrew tried but he couldn't source anymore. Ive seen some on U.K auction sites but their incorrect in size. Those predaytona's are probably the most accurate early daytona that Andrew/Josh carried.

  9. "we all NEED to know its source" I'm going to bet he either travels to the far east on business or he got it from one of two U.K. auction sites. Theres a gentlemen on there that only takes bank wires and his reps are $700/$2000. His stuff is impressive but I dont feel comfortable sending a bank wire.
