Have done many of them, and put new varinsh over the lume when I was finished to make it look like the gen. Never had a reason to remove the varnish... Have no pictures of it, maybe the members who had them done will post some pictures. Taking pictures of everything takes far too much of my time... RG

How about Check RWG instead of check RWI, since your on the RWG site - in case you forgot. There are members here who do and have been doing lume work, I have been doing lume work for over 2 years. If your going to toot members horns, you should do so from the site your on, not from another one. Flavor Flav does lume as well and he is here on RWG. Here are some recent lume jobs I DID, is this close enough to GEN for you?? RG

Maybe you should find another watchmaker... there is no risk damaging the dial if you lume it, as for the movement, it's almost impossible to tell if it a chinese copy, part ETA - part chinese, or whatever, especially on movements where there are no hallmarks under the balance wheel. If it's stamped "ETA" and "6497-1" or a has serial number under the balance, it's an ETA. Remember ETA does have factories in the Far East. I have NEVER EVER seen a copy of a 6497 that was marked ETA under the balance... This is a simple reliable and rugged movement, you don't see or hear of many problems with the hand wind models. RG

Fair enough. I agree it takes a special (read that whatever way you want) type of person and personality to do watch repairs and servicing. It's a bit of a loaner world, but a great way to unwind from the days activity. It was not my intention to come accross as arrogant, but I think it better to have an option and take a stand on a topic, than to sit back and say nothing at all. That was my only intention, and the same held true for the servicing without total disassembly, it did not work for me, fair enough, I tried and it's not my thing, so I'll stick to what I have always done. To each their own. Apprecite the tips and hope to see some informative posts. RG

I don't know what it is, but I seem to be able to sniff out those who have verbal dirreah and can't get along with anyone...seems strange that all of these folks talk the same way, brag about the successes they have, own a HUGE business, etc, etc.. Funny that their composure and posts here get them on the bad side of everyone in a week or so, seems to go against the claims that they all run huge successful businesses. People who are successful in business, are way smarter than these goofs... It all seems so familar to me, over and over, I think it's the same person who is just here to stir the pot. I am sure they, he, whatever it is, will pop up in a couple of weeks again, to share some of their wisdom with us who know so little... RG

The date in my Breitling changes at 8:00
RWG Technical replied to fitipaldi's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Probably a "Shopping mall watchmaker" who knows nothing about movements except where the battery goes... Find another watchmaker. RG -
I am Ziggy...have restored many watches, and many movements, V72, V23, El Primero, all Valjoux types etc... My signature has a link to my information... RG

It is an officially ETA available 7750 series model, the 7754. The genuine one is very well made, unfortunatly the Asian copy, does not mimic the Swiss one, it's a totally different design, and a poorly executed one at best... I am not sure how wide spread the problems with the movement are, I have seen a couple first hand, one of them I could not fix, it was a basket case. Is this enough to say stay away from the model??? I can't say, what I can offer is that servicing the movement, will not fix the issues I have come accross, it's a poor design, with crappy parts, and doesn't work well at all... RG

It will correct it for now, but the long term fix is to glue the hand to the hand tube, this is where most of the slippage occures. Also, only reset between 10-2 on the dial face, or you risk it going out of place again. RG

Gentlemen; if I may call upon your wisdom....
RWG Technical replied to Qsub's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Drills are sold everywhere in numbered or lettered sizes, it's fairly common... No idea why the charts are different, but my drill set is a 60-1 numbered set, bought it at Sears. I doubt you will ever find the specs that rolex uses, other than the crown tube threads which are 3.0mm, the rest is straight forward, it's a trial and error fit of the tube to the case. RG -
Did I say that? I did replace a 2836-2 in a PAM GMT with a 2893-2 model, so that seems to be a possible modification... I can't remember the details on the hands, since the rep GMT hand does not fit the ETA 2893-2. But I did the work a while back, just can't remember who it was for, or the details. It was quite straight forward and not that difficult. RG

Google "numbered drill sizes" and you'll have your answer...all the information is out there, it only takes a bit of effort to find it. RG -
Can someone PLEASE edit the title, it screwed up the whole layout on the board index... Sheesh.... RG

Massive price increase of Swiss 7750 movements
RWG Technical replied to Jawo's topic in General Discussion
I don't think it's odd at all, this movement is (in my opinion) designed for the reps and nothing else. Most movements are marked with the hallmark of the maker, but these don't have any markings on them. If they were designed for the mainstream market (unlikely since ETA still holds the design rights for the movement, compare the A7750 to the Seagull ST-XX copy of the Venus 175, day and night fit and finish...) then I think they would have makers marks, and be finished a whole lot better. Overall it's not a bad movement, once clean and oiled and adjusted... Seems it going to be the only game in town soon, I know my spares bins are stocked with all sorts of ETA movements, if only for scavenging parts... RG -
If you don't know what your doing (and clearly you don't know or you would not be asking, or have the correct tools to do the job) then your in over your head, meaning if you try to do this, you will most likely ruin and damage your watch. There is a big difference between doing simple jobs on a watch, and what your trying to do... Does it make sense that with no idea of what to do, no tools, no experience, nothing, you think your able to do this job? We are all trying to tell you this, but you don't seem to want to listen...the odds of you doing this succesfully on your first try, is very low. You still haven't said why you could not get help on your other forum for this question? RG
-
Not at all, but you said you were from another board, and could not get help there?? Why not?? Lately we have a lot of people who join, don't support the forum (meaning contribute $$) they ask questions, once they get the answers, they disapear... To me, that seems unfair, if you can't get answers on the forum you came from, you should contribute and become a member here and support the forum if you want people to help you out. It's a give and take, not a take only... That is all I am saying, too many freeloaders lately, I for one am getting tired of helping people on the forum or in PM's only to have them disapear once they get what they want. RG
-
That's not a contradiction, there are two separate gears that switch the date, the movement one, and the quickset one... One is driven by the movement, the other works on the stem only. RG
-
What board are you from?? Is there no help on that board for these questions, if it's RWI, what about the resident expert who has his own subforum for mods and upgrades? Should you not be asking his assistance? Joining the forum and supporting it, helps to think your here for the forum, not for yourself alone... Like other members have stated, were getting too many people joining the forum, not contributing to help pay the costs, asking for help, but not willing to support the board. You couldn't get the answers you needed on the other forum, so you came here looking for them, history shows that once you get the answers, you will disapear like so many others have... RG
