  1. Got it now, thanks... I wonder why it's used so little... I never even noted the pull down menu until it was pointed out to me...wonder what else I have been missing all this time... RG
  2. Nice story and beautiful watch...I love the Speedmaster series, in fact, I am wearing the latest Seamaster Chrono as I type this...it's nice as well... RG
  3. I see it now, but on this post it now shows 5 stars (I looked at another post to compare and it was only showing the pull down menu). If it shows 5 stars when looking at the post in this view, why does it not show any stars when I look at the index? And if I select whatever stars, say 5 for example, does the topic get rated at 5 stars, or is it based on number of visits, divided by the number of stars each visitor selects... Is there a reason we dont' use it very often, or just not a habit... RG
  4. While browsing through the Repair and Upgrade section, I noted a select few posts have these small "Stars" "*" next to them and was wondering what they mean. Where do they come from, why are they only certain posts, and who puts the stars there? Are they like a poll where each member can select a "rating" or something, and if so, where is this located on the posts. I can't seem to find anything that shows where I can select this option from my screen view. Am I supposed to enable something to see this option. And why are they limited to only certain posts, is this something you turn on before you post a new topic, or does this option exist in every post, but for the most part we ignore it... Thanks for the answers. RG
  5. Then you will have no problems... First thing is to remove the 30 minute click spring and holder, as if you don't you will damage it while you handle the movement during dis-assembly...(guess how I know this...). Other than this, your best to re-install each screw in it's respective hole, as they are all different, especially the ones in levers or springs... Remove all the springs before the chrono arms so that they dont' fly off... be careful with them as they are easy to break if moved the wrong way. Removing the large bridge covering the motion works is done before you remove the small [censored] with the escape and seconds gears and transfer gear. When you reassemble, you install the second/escape [censored] first and wheels, then insert the 3rd wheel (you will see how it has to fit under the second wheel), then the 4th one and finally the mainspring, as you put the bridge over the motion works, you have to pull the mainspring click from the side to get it to seat properly...before disassembly have a look at how it moves (just below the reset pusher piece) so you know how to pull it out of place so the mainspring gear will seat in the click...if you dont' do this, it will damage the click when you tighten the screws. Other than these points, it's not too hard to take apart, you'll do fine. RG
  6. I have never seen one... If you have taken movements apart and re-assembled them before, the Venus 175 (unlike the 7750) is not a hard movement to work on...there are no suprises like there are on the 7750. Start at the top (chrono seconds and minute [censored]) and work your way down to the last gear...taking it apart is not too hard, getting it back together and adjusted can be... RG
  7. It could be a number of reasons why they run fast. Since most every 7750 I see is dry (no oil) and on 90% the balance cap jewels are also dry, I think there are a couple of reasons why they are running fast... 1. More friction in a watch will make it run faster, what happens is the friction does not allow the balance wheel to swing out as far as it should, shorter swings = faster swings... Once the watch is clean and oiled, the watch slows down because the balance swings out like it should. 2. Beat and rate adjustment. On most of these models, the beat and rate are out of adjustment, combined with no oil, the watch can run faster, sometimes it can run slower. It takes time and skill and up to 6 lubricants to oil a watch...time and skill cost money so this is probably why most movements are shipped with very little to no oil... RG
  8. Short answer - No - you can leave it running for ever and it will not wear it out... For a long detailed answer, see my how does it work posts in my subforum, there is a anal detailed explination on the 7750... With the chrono on, the only extra gears working are the center seconds gear and the 12 hour wheel is released, and each minute the 30 minute counter moves 1 notch... The center seconds has no friction, so it will not wear out, the 12 hour wheel is normally restrained and the clutch is slipping all the time with the chrono OFF, so ON is better, and the 30 minute timer will never wear out, no friction either... So let it run if you like. As for the oils, they deterioate no matter what, it's time that counts (between servicing and fresh clean oil) not if the watch is running or not... RG
  9. I was away on a business trip for the past 6 days, and must have missed this one while trying to catch up with the news... Sorry to hear about how this has had a negative affect on you Mark, your diligence and contributions are unmatched, as is your workmanship... I fully understand and can sympathise with your position, it can get overwhelling at times. Look forward to seeing your contributions, and take some time out for what is important in life, the GF comes to mind... You know how to reach me on email if you need anything. All the best, RG
  10. Do the hour and minute hands move if you pull the crown out to the 3rd position? Unlikely but maybe... If NO, then there is a serious problem with the movement, most likely requiring disassembly... If YES, then it probably still has a serious problem and needs someone to look at it... So either way, hands not moving, while the seconds one does, is not a good or easy thing to fix. RG
  11. Try having someone help you this way, unscrew the bar while you have someone else hold the watch and press on the other end of the screw with a pin or something to help push it out (assuming you can get at the other end). This can help getting it started and as you turn they press it out and it should come out easily. RG
  12. You can always use a rat tail file to insert it...if you put some glue on the threads, and get it inserted all the way, it won't come loose... RG
  13. Why? Simple... Because you drove me crazy in the past bombarding me with email after email and pm after pm...so I blocked you from sending me messages. Some of us have a life beyond watches. As Mark said in the link above, it's a hobby for me (fixing watches) I do it for fun for people that understand it's a hobby and fun...some people I decide to stay away from, that is my right to decide who and if I want to coorespond with someone...I have excercised that right on more than one occasion and will continue to do so. Short version: the world does not revolve around your needs or demands, and neither do I. RG
  14. Great tutorial, thanks for posting this, looks good with the new datewheel... RG
  15. If you moved the "Thing" you identified on the right of the picture, you have altered the "Beat" of the watch, and the only way to get it right again is for a watchmaker to put it on a timing machine and adjust it... As stated above, the correct lever you should have moved is the middle one with the two small brass dots on it...this lever adjusts the "Rate" or speed of the movement, the other one adjusts the synchronization of the watch, sort of like setting up the timing belt on your car and getting the cam shaft, intermediate shaft and crankshaft all in sync... With the beat out of adjustment, you run the risk of damage to the balance wheel or pallet arm as the swings of the balance are not identical now, and the balance may overswing one way and overbank causing damage... RG
  16. Great stuff, thanks for the feedback...not sure of the differences between the 861 and 1861, but the 861 is certainly a nice movement as I am sure the 1861 is also...too pretty to hide behind a solid caseback... Wear it well. RG
  17. Fantastic post, excellent write up, comparisons, and pictures. At $100 you can't go wrong... Thanks, RG
  18. If the chrono is running and the 12 hour and seconds hands are moving, but the 30 minute timer is not, it's a problem with the movement. Probably only an adjustment of the lever that ticks over every minute, it shouldn't affect the functioning of the watch. Normal to hear movement, as this is a uni-directional winding watch, there is only resistance in the CW direction, when the rotor turns the other way, there is no resistance, and it spins freely... RG
  19. Wonderful review, I would never have picked up on the differences you identified. Does your gen have the 861 or 1861 movement in it? Curious as one of the gen's I serviced had the 861 movement in it, but it was an older version. Great job, thanks for this, RG
  20. Nice job, congrats on doing it yourself... RG
  21. Great story, and wonderful watch, congrats... RG
  22. ...
  23. You have to hit sapphire really hard to shatter like that...very strange indeed...especially given the packaging. Hope it works out for you, RG
  24. Here you go...you just don't know when to keep quiet do you...you are doing a great job digging yourself into a deeper hole. Have fun talking to yourself as I am done with your childish sandbox comments, grow up man. Like to one post on TRC Comments from that thread... And this PM from a member... Joe, remember that this is a world wide forum and there are many "Frenchmen" here as well as others of various ethnic backgrounds, your racism is showing through, be careful what you say or it may come back to haunt you... End of my comments and replies, and for gods' sakes, calm down and relax before you pop a blood vessel...your overreaction and babbling on and on only serve to make you look foolish... RG
  25. How's this, close enough for you???? This is the SAME dial you saw in the first post AFTER I Salvaged it... Not close enough for you...is this better??? SAME lighting, but I used the CORRECT amount of binder in the lume, therefore it doesnt' look like a piece of burnt cheese... As for the rest of the comments, it's like reading a CSI episode...anyone who wants the original pictures for "Analyzis" just let me know, and you can analyze them to death... IF I WAS going to do something, why would I waste time on photoshop, all I would need to do is damage the watch and THEN take a picture of it...get real folks... Funny to see the analysis, especially considering that the watch has 2 lugs that look the same in the photo's, how did you determine exactly WHICH lug I had taken a picture of for their analysis when compared to the other ones... It's hard to believe that people have been here as long as they have, meaning did everyone forget what has been posted during the past few months? It sure seems as it that is the case... Or am I the only one that noticed a TREND here with this member... And when I see a someone who sent their watch to him last week (I have to guess you missed ALL the previous posts on the problems with this member), and then believes they will get it back in 3-4 weeks, I suggest you contact the member(s) on TRC who have been waiting for their watches for Six months to OVER A YEAR...as they are going to be [censored] that your watch is being done before theirs... I got the watch, took it apart and took pictures of what I found. If you dont' believe me, that's your choice. As Arthur said, I DON'T do the same type of work Joe does, so there is no COMPETITION between us... I have enough to keep me busy for months...without getting into this type of work. As for the ramblings and childish comments and insults from Joe, there is nothing further to say. I did what I was asked to do, and posted the results. Seems I struck a nerve...as did the others who posted their displeasure with Joe over the past few months... one post, maybe a accident or one-off incident, numerous posts - on here and TRC - again and again, it doesnt' take a genius to make the connection. How many examples does one need before you can put 2 and 2 together... I have to assume that the members here are intelligent enough to see through the BS...but it seems as if the lessons will continue to be repeated for those that are not willing to learn from others...much to their dismay... No further comments are needed or coming from me...it is what it is, all the excuses and BS and insults arent' going to change it... This is Arthur's watch not mine, I did what was asked of me, I have nothing further to add. RG
