I agree, it's something with the camera, in person it looks much more of a sand colour, not so yellow. Same problem when I take a picture of the Orange Super Lume, it looks bright yellow (the B&R for example). RG

Why servicing - correct - servicing is so important...
RWG Technical replied to RWG Technical's topic in The Rolex Area
This is a genuine 1680 and a genuine 1570 rolex movement. So yes, whoever did the last servicing did the work you see here, pretty sad if you ask me. The good news is that the movement is now serviced correctly and will not suffer any more damage. RG -
Fixing up the Black Steel Avenger
RWG Technical replied to RWG Technical's topic in The Breitling Area
Yes, all the original lume dots on the dial (and hands of course) was removed. The original lume is not well placed and quite a mess on these. Once the lume is off, I repaint the circles with Super Lume reflective paint, let it dry, and then make new dots with lume filling the complete circles. RG -
Thanks for the heads up. They must have bought out an retired (read=deceased) watchmaker. RG

Why servicing - correct - servicing is so important...

The funny thing is that I have never seen that type of grease anywhere, it's not a watch grease to my knowledge...I have no idea where it came from, but I can guess @ RobbieG RG -

Doesn't really matter where it was done last, the pictures tell the story. RG -

I sense that someone reading this is familiar with this particular watch... RG -
Yes, fully interchangeable between A and ETA, eh! RG

Fixing up the Black Steel Avenger
RWG Technical replied to RWG Technical's topic in The Breitling Area
Of course it looks good, I won't accept anything else...how's this for macro's I don't hide my workmanship behind glow only lume pics, or far away shots. HAND PAINTED hands: -
I shake my head at some of the stuff that passes for servicing or acceptable workmanship. Check out the grease used here, what was this person thinking?? As I tore down the movement, the lack of correct servicing was even more noticeable, some of the problems include: - great wheel pivot completely dry - autowinder pivot dry and starting to wear out, no oil anywhere - both balance cap jewels completely dry, yet there were some pivots in the movement that were oiled and still fluid, balance caps are the last to dry out, because they are sealed, seems as if the last servicing didn't include the cap jewels - pallet pivot oiled - a BIG no-no - mainspring was not touched in a long long time...have a look... So, 30 minutes later in a nice ultrasonic bath...we get some good results... And to those who continue to say "Never get your movement serviced, it's a waste of time and money, send it in when it quits working..." all I have to say is please send in a big bag of money with your movement, your going to need it to replace all the worn out damaged parts when it grinds to a halt... that is if the parts are even available. Luckily this one was caught just in time... Thanks for looking, RG

New lume filling the complete circles, hands painted red to match the dial red. Thanks for looking. RG

I am a Belgin customs officer, I just read your post and now I have proof that you know you were buying a counterfit replica watch...so if you lie on your letter or during your interrogation you will be purgering yourself and we will charge you with this and other offences... Not a good idea to post this in the open, how do you know that Belgin or other Customs officers aren't logged into and members here?? RG

"ETA" SOSF - Plastic Movement Holder
RWG Technical replied to nakortheblue's topic in The Breitling Area
I have seen many plastic holders, it's meaningless in that the holder is designed to hold the movement in place, plastic or metal, no difference and the plastic works just fine... RG -
Servicing 90 A7750's in 3 months is certainly a record, I am amazed that this many have been sent in by RWG members, genuine watch shops would never see that many chrono's in a year... Well I have been taking apart and servicing A7750's for close to 4 years now...I have yet to have one wear out, even the one I serviced 4 years ago that has been sitting and running non-stop on my winder for 4 years, still keeps perfect time and works perfect. Wheels are made of brass and can't be blued, and blued steel is hard, not soft, so those comments are a bit confusing...in any case, I have never seen in any of this in any of the A7750's I have serviced, all the pivots are polished nickel coloured steel. Short mainsprings?? well when the barrel is full and you can't fit in anymore spring, and when the Asian mainspring is the same length as the ETA one, I don't know how it can be too short...again...confused about that statement. Soft winding wheels...they are made of brass and brass is soft, all the wheels in all watches are made of brass, and the pivots are made of steel. Too small autowinding pivots? never noted this issue either... My experience is totally different than the one shared here, and my failure and return rate is so close to zero following service of the A7750, that it's not an issue. RG

Question on the correct lume for 3719 Slevin
RWG Technical replied to RWG Technical's topic in General Discussion
Thanks everyone, I thought it was only the seconds at 9 that was done... @omeega Send me a PM... RG -
I have always lumed all the hands on the slevins, and cousteau's, but I remember seeing a post where the 3719 slevin only had lume on the seconds at 9 subdial hand. The other subdial and center seconds hands were NOT lumed. Can someone confirm what it should be, so I can get it right once... Thanks, RG

Well thank god the TZ folks still haven't caught on that we had figured out the recessed cannon pin 3+ years ago and started installing H3 pins on our PAM's...according to that one poster, that's the way to spot a fake PAM. The less they know, the better as far as I am concerned, although many probably are reading this right now and members of this forum, but lets not mention that on TZ...it would not be acceptable. RG
-
Wonderful job, thanks for the great pictures. RG
-
ETA 6498 as avitt stated...it will accept ETA parts of course, so H3 not a problem. RG

If the watch will not run dial up, the most likely problem is that the balance cock jewel for the balance wheel has fallen out or is damaged, or the pivot on the top of the balance wheel is either broken or bent. It runs fine with the balance upside down, when you turn it right side up, the only difference is that the balance is now rotating on the opposite pivot... RG

It looks great on those straps. I think one of the items that doesn't get mentioned or isn't appreciated is the fact that the lume metal buckets are all removed, and I hand paint circles on the dial where the buckets were, and then once dry I hand apply the lume dots. So it's truely a hand made one-of-a-kind watch, especially this particular one. RG
