You are kidding, aren't you? That drawing looks more like Peter Cushing...
-
OK, so Ian Fleming wrote in Casino Royale and Moonraker that Bond looked something like Hoagy Carmichael. I agree though that Dalton played the part closest to the Fleming characterisation Not so sure about the looks though...... What's that got to do with anything?! Being ugly never stopped you getting your oats....
-
So, how many Bond novels have you read then?! This is the person Ian Fleming wrote in Casino Royale as being closest to Bond's appearance... Not a bad likeness IMO... PS. Clive Owen didn't turn it down. He wasn't asked (although Sony Pictures lobbied Babs Broccoli and Michael Wilson hard to consider him).

The obvious (and only realistic) answers are either i) buy the genuine watch or ii) attempt to source a genuine bezel insert in the hope it will fit the rep.

As someone who owns a SA-CD/DVD-Audio player, pugs, I know where you are coming from. But, as the quality retrograde step that MP3 is compared to the 25 year old format that is CD audio proves - ultimate quality is not the deciding factor in format wars. DVD killed VHS because they take up less space as well as offering better quality. Hi capacity discs will not offer huge perceptible differences to the masses - especially at the costs involved. History shows they will instead go for the convenience of the-same-as-or-slightly-better than DVD quality in a convenient package. PS. WRT to where I am getting content, the mediaserver is networked to one satellite and one cable tuner streaming HD channels off-air to it. If I want real quality there's a cinema 5 minutes down the road.....
-
Format war?! What format war? It's a phoney war. Discs are dead - buy yourself a Mediagate 350HD mediaserver.

Well, you are inviting comments, so here goes. The orange colour on the bezel looks 'washed out'. Better examples of this watch have been sold by our respected dealers here. As for the movement, the subdials are, typically, too far apart compared to the genuine article as the replica modified 7750 movement contained within bears no resemblance or relation whatsoever to the Calibre 3313 movement used in the original - which is a totally 'in-house' movement and not an ETA design.
-
45mm, actually, on rubber (coz he's almost as big a Bond fan as I am). Scalloping on the bezel is a dead giveaway. His previous daily beater was a blue faced 'Brosnan' SMP 300m.

GMT, chrono and standard should have different cases. Chrono case will be significantly thicker and bracelet end-links will be chunkier to match. Also, He valve on chrono should align with the 10 marker. GMT and standard bracelets should be identical, but GMT caseback should be deeper with display back, and crown guards shaped differently. The real down-turn in quality of this rep co-incided with the change from pins to screws in the bracelet. My circa 2004 model clasp spring started to lose strength, but I replaced it with a genuine Omega one which fitted perfectly. I doubt you'd be able to do something similar with today's model.

I think what you've got there is a rep of a rep of a rep. The fact that the watch went 'out-of-stock' and then reutrned kind of suggests a new manufacturer. The decline in quality of the SMP is a much discussed topic here in RWG. Kind of funny to think that my first proper rep was an 'old factory' standard (ie. not 007) 2824 SMP from Paul, bought 4 years ago for the discounted sum of $175!! Still have it, and it still kicks the ass of any SMP you'll buy today (with the exception perhaps of the cheapo Asian GMT without the He valve).
-
Definitely the most striking of the models to reach market so far, but, sadly, probably the least accurate. The font for the numerals on the subdials doesn't look quite right
-
Maybe, but remember also that Daniel Craig has made body building part of his standard preparation for playing Bond! When the first pictures off the set of Casino Royale appeared, some commentators mistakenly reckoned what we all now know is the 45mm Planet Ocean on rubber strap was in fact a DeVille, simply because DC made it look 'small'.
-
Well folks, principle filming of Bond 22 started this week in London (approx 1 month behind schedule because of the writers' strike). First pics of DC on set show that the Planet Ocean is back, but the rubber 'action' strap has been replaced for the more elegant SS bracelet. Preliminary filming in August 2007 took place on location in Siena, Italy, and Daniel turned up there wearing the same watch, although he was not actually due to appear in front of camera then as the purpose of filming was to capture the 'Palio' horse race event. PS. I am also pleased to see that the continued rumours of a 'sky blue' bezelled chrono version of the PO making its debut in the movie have so far proved untrue.

Happy New Year to you! PS. I do wish sometimes that you'd take your one-to-one conversations that you and Vikki have in open threads over to PM though. The request for classifieds being a prime example.... [flameproofing] PPS. This is not a personal attack - just some advice to avoid the clutter that gathers, so please don't try interpret it as one. The battle for Bond (Just thought it an interesting article, partially related to what we do here ie. encourage fakery!)

<Snigger> Can we have a bell installed in this forum that we can ring every time Vikki makes yet another one of these mistakes.... <runs for cover......>

Patience is a virtue at this time of year I just had a package (not watch related) take 4 weeks from Hong Kong, including the 'handed over to customs' process! Previously it took 5 days!

A rather sweeping generalisation that my 5'1" petite wife would take you to task over. Sure, she has a pink 'beach' Daytona, but that is ridiculous for a whole load of other reasons than size (plus it ain't that big by today's standards). @juicy - how about an Omega Quadrella. A bit different from the round Constellations, and my missus has hardly taken off the one I got her for Christmas last year. Available from many of our good collectors (I know for a fact that the example shown on one dealer-who-shall-remain-nameless's site is the very watch my wife now owns!) It's good enough for Nicole Kidman after all!!!

So that's where leonado's got to....!!

Just to get back OT.... [censored] to Global Warming. I think the transcript of Sean Gabb's lecture is particularly interesting! To my eyes, carbon offsetting just looks like a modern day equivalent to medieval Papal Indulgences, and junk science is the new religion. Climate science, like all science, is never settled, but to say it is smacks of censorship motivated by self interest.

Errrr, no it wasn't!?......... Anyhoo.... Unless (i) you deserve it, and (ii) you get in Neil's way Good natured denigration has always been a part of this place. Just that recently some have become a bit more touchy! -

Indeed. And then people question why the suggestion of a one-stop guide to rep 'tells' is a hairbrained scheme....! Looking for the tells and completely failing to notice the obvious genuine (and so far un-repped) movement in the back. But they'll keep the display back, and that's the bit I was thinking about -

That ain't beautiful. It looks like an air-conditioning unit. -
Did you hold it over a picture of Uri Geller?!
