  1. I am off to modding my UPO some more. Decided to get a gen crystal. Never got a PM back from Chief, and it seems his AR run is closed of the year. My question is whether I need to get a case tube, and gen crown? What is the problem with the current UPO that requires this modification? Is the case tube the only component that needs to be modded, or is the gen crown necessary, too? Thanks for the help.
  2. Thanks guys. Considering discounts for PAM are not common I thought it was a good deal. I think I am going to pass on this, but if someone in SoCal wants it. Just PM me, we can meet at the AD.
  3. I have the opportunity to pick up a gen 000 (I think it is K series) from a SoCal AD for 3.8K. Should I? I am asking how much for the 005. BTW, I need to mention that my friend does marketing for the AD and am getting me the employee price. Will probably come with an extra strap and other goodies.
  4. Hey Lani, I bought a ETA from Perfect Clones. It has the ETA markings, and Josh has never done me wrong so I assume ETA. However, I heard some horror stories and really didn't know any other ways to verify. That Chief crystal is amazing, and I would say it makes the biggest difference - maybe even more than the dial. Personally I think the watch looks like a rep even with a gen dial because my gen's AR is what makes the dial really pop. And I agree with your about the bezel mod. It's too much trouble, and the stock bezel looks fine to me.
  5. Looks great Lani. Love the comparison pics. Do you think the datewheel mod is necessary? I bought a UPO that was sold as Swiss ETA, but the font is not as crisp as your pics or as my gen.
  6. Thanks R. Was about to order a crystal until I saw the comparison between gen and Chief crystal. At a difference of $150, it was a no-brainer.
  7. What are some other sites besides Ofrei for modding?
  8. Whoa, UBI that looks great. Very impressed. I was able to source a crystal for $150, but have yet to find a good bezel. The crown doesn't bother me too much, but it is noticably larger.
  9. Looking awesome. I am keeping my modded PO if I can get a Chief crystal, or if I bite the bullet and buy one. This is night and day guys. Looking at my gen PO versus my modded PO I realize that the crystal is absolutely necessary to bring out the dial.

    DSN 027A

Mine goes pass the 40 just a smidge so I guess it represents 42 hours. Timed it with my gen Omega Planet Ocean and its +/- 3 seconds.

Thanks Mick. The PR is currently full, Samurai.

    DSN 027A

This came in today, and here are my initial impressions. Keep in mind I had a 028 that was worked on by SSSurfer and had a Finepics datewheel, so my expectations are quite high. 1. Very good crown guard. The pin was flattened by DSN. I think it could be a bit more flat, but overall I am glad that I do not have to do this mod myself. 2. Exceptional dial. This dial is very well made, and everything is really crisp. Kudos for DSN for taking the effort to consult some of our communities finest. 3. Date Font, needs improvement. I do not know if I got a bad date, but it is definitely thinner then the one I got from Finepics. Maybe it was SSSurfer's cyclops, but the date is definitely thinner then I would expect. I would need to see a watch modded with Leo's datewheel to see if his work warrants his price, but for now the datewheel is a large improvement over the ETA. 4. Crown. Not bad, could be better, but I can live with it. 5. Special thanks to Wolf and Mickey Padge's photos. And thanks to Mickey for answering all my PMs regarding the watch. 6. Photos are unedited, and have only been cropped. On to the pictures (I am nuts over the datefont and took most of the pictures for the purpose of comparing the date is various lightings and angles):
  13. Strap looks great, Mickey. Your last picture of the dial got me to shoot that email to DSN to confirm purchase.
  14. Congrats, and great looking piece.
  15. Thanks a ton, Mickey. The datefont is much better then I had expected. The crown is a bit thin, but not as bad as I was thinking. Expect some sale items from SoCal so I can pick this gem up.
  16. Mickey will you please take a picture of the date. I am a date font nut and not seeing any datewheels in the pipeline is keeping me away (Dadog pointed me to Leo, but no word just yet). Thanks, and the watch looks great.
  17. Sent my Sinn U1 to the Sinn factory for servicing. I asked USPS for the safest way and they suggested Registered Mail. I was about to send it Express, but they said Registered was the way to go. Well it left Los Angeles on July 2, 2009, and the factory has not received it. It shouldn't take this long, right? If you gone through anything like this please let me know what I should do. Thanks.
  18. Thanks, no discussion on datewheels. I Pm'd you. Thanks again for the info.
  19. Wow, did anyone else see this. Datewheel is still bad. If I can get a lello or finepics datewheel I would be all over this.
  20. Looks great CLKCadet. Sorry about not noting the scratches. I never used the bracelet and never bothered to look. Two cape cods just went out this morning. Just keep them in a ziplock bag when not in use. There is a way to revive them too, but I forgot how.
  21. I prefer RWG. I go on Repgeek every once in a while to lurk. I am turned off by their sales section. It's a huge circle jerk, and can totally see a noob over paying for something; RWG not so much.
  22. The AR is superb, and the Co-Axial movement (from what I read) is pretty amazing. The lume is also scary bright, and I have owned pieces lumed by Vac. I guess I am 90% sure I am going to keep it. Like some members mentioned I don't think the watch will be losing its value.
