  1. Yup, the hand needs to be all red with the exception of the lume.
  2. Hands down, without question it has to be Marco's 028.
  3. it's settled. 089 for me. if marco says its good, then it must be.
  4. another excellent write up lani.
  5. What are your opinions of DSN's new work. The price is slightly better then the other collectors. I am not so good at picking apart the dials, but the date font looks pretty good.
  6. I saw this at the AD it's a very imposing piece. The special edition looked much better then the regular black dial. The etching of the "12" and "6" really set the watch apart.
  7. strap culture legend; nice and thick leather with the black skull pvd buckle.
  8. Look at Lani's post. I think the lello datewheel is essential to getting the gen look. The closed 6 is found in some gen 104s, and should not be a concern, but the dial font, although improved, is not good enough. Lume would also help, but I think a lello datewheel would be enough to fool the purists. And of course there is the AR, you are not going to get the look of the gen AR on sapphire.
  9. Exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks.
  10. looks great lani. how is it keeping time? i was thinking of doing the same. no need for relume, just a lello datewheel was what i was thinking. the AR does look good. enjoy the watch.
  11. I just ordered one with the intention of sending it off to Jakub for double ar, and eta day/date wheels. After contacting with River I am told that it lacks AR, but that it is indeed the highbeat 28.8 movement. $250 shipped seemed pretty good for the 3717 with the bracelet.
  12. can anyone tell whether the indices are filled and varnished?
  13. There are a few ADs (Chinese Owned) down here in Southern California that has offered me 10% off retail and no tax if I paid cash. This is the best deal I have found for new Pams, however the caveat is that this only appies to in stock items. Last time I was there they most affordable PAM was a 112. Seeing as how you want a 000 or 005, which are both in high demand, procurring one with a discount will be hard. I was also in Taiwan this past winter and the ADs remarked that the PAMs do not move as nearly as well as their counterparts, i.e. IWC. Due to their large size, and their plain look. They were willing to move on the price, but never got a firm figure. I suggest you call some of these ADs as many work with international buyers for quick sales. And as many have suggested viapanerisiti, paneristi, and timezone are also options. However, I suggest a lot of due diligence before making a wire transfer. This will include reference checks on many boards, and getting tagged pictures to ensure the watch is in their possession. Good luck.
  14. DSN's 01D has a dial that is close to perfect. I personally feel that is the best out of box rep on the market right now. There is not movement decoration to worry about since it is closed back, and DSN has fixed most flaws such as cannon pinnion, lume, and sapphire crystal. Two potential mods would be the crown, which anyone can make an argument is already close to gen. And the AR on the watch is your standard rep blue tint. I would also recommend a DSN 112, but you have to content with the inaccurate display movement.

    New Aquatimer

that "swiss made" is terribly misaligned. i would contact your seller.
  16. looks amazing. i didn't even mind having to open up new windows on the desktop.
  17. Having purchased a few gens I can attest that discounts are widely given. Michael's Watches is located in the heart of the jewelry district and while talking to the owner I learned quite a few things. Michael's gives 30% off for most time pieces. For a majority of other pieces he can do 35% off. IWC, Zenith, Tag, were all 30-35%, however the more popular models warranted less of a discount, or had a long waiting list. I was there this past December while my friend shopped for lan IWC Portuguese Power Reserve (he did not want a watch that could have the movement easily replicated) and we were told the wait was at least 3-4 months, and the discount was 20% at most. When I asked for the Portuguese it was 35% off and available that day. I learned that what Michael's does is the purchase inventory from Authorized Dealers and mark them up a few percent. Normally dealers get their watches at 50% off the suggested retail price, they are often times immediately sold to middlemen for a slight mark up, either 5 or 10%. This is because the more product the move, the more exclusive and limited items they can get. So by selling to several middlemen they are bumped up the list to receive the rare and exclusive offerings. Michael's then marks the watches up a little more, enough to prevent someone to go to the AD. Also I deal exclusively with Asian owned jewelry chains. In Los Angeles there is Lee Ching Haw, and Chong Hing, both of which give you a discount. Being Chinese and speaking Chinese will help immensely. He eventually found a black faced IWC Power Reserve from Chong Hing and purchased it for $7850, tax included. Most Chinese dealers will also not tag on the tax if you are able to pay with cash. Just try asking for a discount, and understand that the discount depends on the watch. Neither Lee Ching Hwa, of Chong Hing gave discounts on Panerai. The best they could do is offer no tax, however on one occassion my friend was offered 10% and no tax. I have not heard of a better deal for Panerai. BTW I was able to get my 3706 IWC Fliegerchronograph for $3200 out the door, and this included the deployment bracelet. This was in 2003 when the 3706 was not discontinued.
  18. Great Review. Thanks Pug.
  19. Personally I would go with a DSN 112. The reason being is that this dial is very good compared to his 111H. You get the display caseback, good lume, correct cannon pin, and solid crown and crown guard. However, Angus ultimate 111 and 112 are also very good. Both Angus and DSN come highly recommended, as I have bought from both I can attest that they will make good on all their promises.
  20. Thanks for that.
  21. What do you mean perfect? Did you get double AR?

    DSN 005

The "OP" logo is indeed too big, and the arrow is almost touching the "Panerai" logo.
  23. Corgi - Your sentiments are shared by me. That is why I am so unwilling to send this one back. In the past three days it has not skipped a beat. +/- a few seconds a day, pitience when considering the history of the asian 7750. I will see what Angus has to say before I make my decision.
  24. Thanks Victoria. Kind words soothe the pain, but the misaligned "Swiss Made" is ever apparent.
  25. I got the Slevin from Angus yesterday. As usual Angus was quick with the communication, and good to work with. 1. The watch holds up well against the currently released reps. The inner bezel is amazing. Very easy to use, and clicks perfectly. No complaints here. 2. Lume, is almost non-existent. Very weak lume on the hands and the hour markers. And no lume on the bezel. This is disappointing to say the least. I was about to contact The Zigmeister, but alas I am sure everyone was aware of this recent message. 3. Hour Markers. The hour markers are really poorly lumed. None of the indices have the same amount of lume painted on. This is only noticeable to a student of rep world, and was not obvious to any of my friends who own gen IWC. Not a single one even doubted the watches authenticity. 4. AR - AR on this is weak. There is a slight blue tint, but no wear near my friend's IWC Portuguese 7-Day Power Reserve. My friend's watch as a black dial, but because of the AR it rarely looks black. The same could be said of the Aquatimer I held in the store. But, I have seen gen Aquatimer's with the same sort of weak AR on this rep. So this is a real toss up. 5. Day/Date - Lines up perfectly. No smudges with the print, but not quite bold enough. ETA would give it a much more accurate look. 6. Chronograph - Resets perfectly. 7. Time Keeping - Plus or minus 10 seconds from yesterday. Very impressed with how well this piece winds. YOUR OPINIONS PLEASE The "Swiss Made" is crooked. It sits too far to the left. Should I get another return this rep? I also have a scratch at 1 o'clock. I have great difficulty adjusting the day. In fact I left it alone in anticipation of a return. This is something that I have been waiting a long time for. And I was ready to ship it to Jakub for the double AR and day/date change prior to discovering the "Swiss Made". Please give me your opinions.
