  1. euno + nanuq -- guys, i've seen the watches you DO have, rep and gen, and i have to say, if you have ANY watch regrets whatsoever, you've got to count to ten and reassess. yes, i know you're talking hypothetically and maybe monetarily, but seriously folks, how could you (eg, euno) not spend all day and all night basking in warm, fuzzy, endlessly-fulfilled feelings, wearing and watching your, eg, gen 5513, taking care of business on your wrist? ah, t'would be a beautiful thing... step 3: enjoy. jsph p.s. "boy do i ever not regret that time in 2006 when this princely gent of a man, eunomians, offered me his gen 5513 for $300 and a box of ginger snaps, all in the spirit of christmas.... that was the stuff!"
  2. ... still can't get over that black/black/black 2254.50 -- i'm transfixed! gen, of course; nobody makes a rep of it that looks like THAT! wild... jsph
  3. thanks again, RT. you're doing the lord's work, as they say. best of luck with this, however it turns out.... jsph
  4. thanks, ubiq. yup... i... well, let's just say, this mbw 5513 was going to be my ticket, until they went and made it with that gilt dial... so, yes, right, i'm actually not at all further forward, given that it's the $400+ gen dial that keeps getting kindly suggested as my "solution"... they may as well have not bothered, since it's just the 1680 case, though the crystal they've put in their 5512 and "5513" are decent enough. if somebody could make a 5513 (WHITE-LETTER!) dial that's nearly as good as the ones they're putting in the 1665s and 1680s, i would be GOLDEN! that's what i thought george/mbw would do, but they went with that funny gilt variant. ugh... so... basically... i'm screwed.
  5. "easy", he says!... man... it's $800+ just to get _started_, with the mbw base watch and the $400+ gen dial... yikes! nobody has to do that to make a great 1680 or 1665. and much of it has to do with the dial -- so, why doesn't anyone make a nice simple rep of the 5513 dial? no... if it's approaching $1000 just to get the basics of this watch, that's no good. besides, if you're going to put that much money and work into it... and STILL it's based on a 1680 case, which is not fooling anyone (including, most of all, the wearer) compared to what the 5513 cases looked like... ?... ( http://www.oysterworld.de/5513vs14060.htm ) (yes, i'm perfectly happy with a mbw 1680-based 5513, but maybe in the $400-500 range, not in the $1000-range, with a gen dial trapped inside. that would be grim! george/mbw almost got it right recently, and then they put in their version of the gilt dial... so close, but so completely far if you want the classic -- see eunomians' recent post... ) seriously, though. why is the 5513, the famous grandfather of submariners, completely forgotten and ignored in the rep world? and it would be a more popular seller -- a more manageable size for most people than the 1665, a more streamlined look and crystal than the 1680, with a demure dial, no date/cyclops....) instead, i have to get told that to get anything looking anywhere near the watch i want, i have to put in $800-1000 just to get started. what a prospect... people are walking with 99% perfect, $100 "newbiemariners", or brilliant mbw 1665s and 1680s for ~$400, and i'm stuck with this. god forbid some manufacturer think to make a rep. 5513 dial... now, that would make it... easy... jsph
  6. a lefty, pvd 5512 or 5513 is absolutely brilliant. no doubt. but i have to say, in general, these bamford and sons pvds get me jealous to the point of being almost angry! i mean, these bamford ones are basically saying, i am so filthy rich, i've got so many 5513s and gmts laying around the house, i now find them boring, so i'm going to personally run a handful through pvd, put my own name on the dial.... this is seriously filthy-rich business. look, i'd like to have so much money and watches that i'd go and do this, but as a guy who not only can't afford a single 5513 -- frankly, can't even get his hands on a half-decent 5513 REP! -- it gets me angry-jealous! it's not right! look, could some dealer talk to some manufacturer and get us some good 5513s? then i could get a couple, get one PVD'd and made lefty, and then the world would go back to spinning quietly on its axis! i don't need this taunting, folks! please lobby with your favorite dealer -- they're not listening to me! imagine... armies of rwg heroes, with lefty pvd 5513s... it's just too awesome for words... jsph
  7. speaking of which -- there's no better advertisement than eunomian's recent post! please see "world's most perfect...".... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=17057&hl=
  8. euno: sir, you honor me. i keep asking for these pics -- and not just for me... so everyone can see the GLORY of this watch. without a doubt, it does not get any better than this. why do other watches exist? i have no idea! please, WHY OH WHY are there no reps of this watch? [please don't direct me to the $1XX on ttime, pfclones, etc -- if you have eyes in your head, you can see NOONE makes anything resembling this.... and george's new MBW "gilt" version, with the 1680 case... it's just not the same as getting this one here... LOOK!] we need a rep of this folks. even at mbw prices. you just can not get a decent gen for under ~ $4000 these days, it's just not attainable otherwise.... please, someone direct jay and richard tracy to this thread, these pictures, and euno's comments, so they can see this is THE watch the rep world can no longer afford to ignore. this is THE submariner, no doubt about it. thanks again, euno. beautiful watch, beautiful pics, and excellent comments. many congratulations again, and thanks for sharing with the unwashed masses! jsph
  9. RT: sorry... not sure how this is working exactly... but can we get either the rlx 5513 (matte dial, white letter, non-military; classic version) and/or the seamaster 2254.50 considered for this? i think although you could say they might be called sports, it's actually more accurate to call both of those all-occasion watches. not sure what's involved in getting them to be seriously considered / voted on, etc... -- sorry again... went and read your polling-post... i get it... and i guess both the 5513 and 2254.50 are out if there are not supposed to be suggestions for improvements... even though all the existing ones are very close to silly reps at this point... crumbs!
  10. i'm coming in a bit late here, but maybe good timing considering richard tracy's most recent/reminder post. my suggestions can easily be done either with a 2824 or even better, with a 2892. they are absolutely all-occasion watches, at the same time dressy and sporty, and absolute inarguable classics. people have been clamouring for good reps of these forever, and they are very much loved in the gen. worlds -- with the vintage one's price literally doubling in the last 1-2 years. the watches: 1. the rolex submariner 5513. i'm not going to attach pictures here -- do a google image search for rolex 5513 and you'll see what i mean. i'm talking about the original style, lume (non-metal) markers, white-print, non-military dial. (best option, the "200m=660ft" version.) if someone could get this dial and this case right (and have it 1:1 for us to take care of the rest, if necessary, with gen parts), it would be a monumental achievement. (btw, for case difference and older-is-awesomer demonstration, see the comparison between the 5513 and the modern no-date 14060 -- again, via google.) no gmt hassles, no four lines of text, no crazy case designs or impossible metals. just THE classic submariner, and, guess what, we could finally get it as a rep (NO, THERE ARE NO GOOD ALTERNATIVES CURRENTLY!) - this is a watch that's _nothing_ like the modern subs, for those of you slagging the overexposed modern submariner. it is NOT flashy, it's not on every street corner, it doesn't scream "you bought a black steel submariner, and so did i". this watch has got class, and tough, and subtle, and the-father-of-it-all written all-over it (except, it's got nothing written all over it, baby). 2. the modern omega seamaster 300m, 2254.50 black on black. this is very much in line with the request for the vintage seamaster 300m, but the fact is, if you want to get one of those for a project, one that takes gen. parts -- you can get the real darn thing off ebay for $500-900; why start with a rep. as your base watch, if the gen could be had for about that range and then built up; or the real deal, in nice condition, ~1k-1.5k; by comparison, a good rolex 5513 is now in the $4k range.) - there was an earlier comment about the "closed factory" seamasters, and that was spot on. imagine now that we are given the opportunity to re-create those, possibly with a 2892 movement -- what that means is, they could finally get the case size/thickness right (again) which is really a defining thing for this watch. - further! imagine that in one go, you could create a rep that could trivially be turned into about five different HIGHLY popular watches, with a tidal-wave movie franchise having just done millions of dollars of advertising for you. if you get the 2254.50 right, you change the dial, hands, and bezel insert and -- bam -- you've got the blue bond seamaster. microscopic change again, you've got the new blue bond coaxial. change the second hand and dial and you've got the "007". another change, it's the electric blue seamaster w/ silver bezel. and on it goes. another slight change, and now you've got the very desirable omega gmt in black or white, depending just on the dial, hands, and bezel you put in. again -- create a good, 1:1, eta 2892 omega seamaster and IT IS A FRIGGIN' LICENCE TO PRINT MONEY! yes -- the first time somebody puts on a rep. omega that's got a 2892, you can bet they're going to holler on the lists, tell everyone about it. did you see how the almost-perfect blue bond chrono ROCKED the rep world over the last few weeks? make it and they will come... and they will buy. they went nuts and created generations of ever-more-perfected planet oceans, and people couldn't buy enough of those, generation after generation -- it's time to go back to the workhorse of the line, the classic 2254.50 which, as i say, is also a very smooth shout out to the vintage seamaster 300m. so that's my story. google image search these two watches and you'll see. these are watches that go with any occasion, from black suits and sports cars to orange swim trunks. they will sell like friggin' WILD-FIRE. they would be easy to make. they would be easy to modify to create whole lines of watches (eg, the best gilt 5513, the 5512, comex versions; all the modern omega variants), and yes, this is a personal agenda, but it also happens to be an agenda that i would say hundreds of people -- even not arcane-watch-nerds -- would get behind; even the most popular of the wildest-and-amazingest suggestions i've seen on this list would not get more than a few dozen sales. fill the need, and make a lot of money, is what i say. that's my christmas wish.... thanks r.t., and jay. peace haut, jsph
  11. that looks pretty darn awesome! i think the only difference from the gen. has to be the slightly shorter hand(s)... wow... which dealer was this from? what other info about this one?... (feel free to PM me with the info if you prefer.) congratulations! jsph
  12. awesome stuff! now... what we all need is a similar quality 5513! (so i can stop having fantasies of eunomians'!) eunomians, sir -- grace this thread with some shots of your matte-dial, white-letter 5513 beauty so our man neil knows what we're talkin' about! jsph
  13. well, how about watchmaster himself for a wm? and mikellem, do you mean rbj can actually source/procure these watches directly himself? jsph
  14. pitimany: this is some serious achievement. i'd looked at andrew's 5512/5513 as something fun to get to tide me over my 5513-lust, but never thought one could be suped up like this. sounds like the only thing left on what you bought was the dial (re-lumed), hands, and case. not sure if i read -- did you drill out the lug holes further, or did they come right? and when you say the bezel came from a 5517, you mean one of joshua/eddie/etc's? very wild stuff. excellent job, and very creative, i have to say. super jealous. are you going to relume the hands to match? couldn't quite see in the last photo if you had. take care. jsph
  15. ubiquitous and nanuq: these are awesome! were are you ordering from?
  16. cool 5517 photos. thanks, sherrington. it's funny how the 3 / 6 / 9 markers almost look like they have... serifs! jsph
  17. nanuq: thanks for those pics. i like palpatine's 5512, there. and the crystal on that last one is pretty neat -- though... is it quite the same profile as the original 5513, or was that an upcoming mod, i wonder? still, a bit funny to have an HEV on the side of a 5513! once, eunomians wrote a bit about how he though you could go about making a 5513 out of another model mbw, but what a long laundry list (as it has to be) of parts and mods. starting out, i was still hoping there was a cheaper/faster way of getting a half-decent swiss (not mbw-quality) one, but that looks like it's not going to happen. hm... thanks again for the photos and suggestions. take care, jsph
  18. mvb: infuriating, isn't it! perhaps we can consider this a positive? generating more detailed discussions of certain omega and rolex models on this new rwg.... besides, we can't all be fearless, well-heeled gods of omega -- that's _your_ specialty. slow and steady,... jsph
  19. wow... we were just talking about the 5513 on another thread last night. awesome!! you've got to tell us everything! what's the base watch, and where'd you get it? what mods / parts? did you do the relume? etc... etc... inquiring minds want to know... everything! the 5513 is a legend, and a screaming void in the replica world! jsph
  20. man, that would be pretty wild... i'd be jumping right into the deep end with that one, though. wow... i wonder if i can find any threads/pics on those projects, on the old rwg or wherever... by the way, you said there are some ok 5512s, but no excellent ones. i'm not even finding really ok ones. again, i think andrew's is definitely fun and so on, but you'd never confuse the two as being the same. are you thinking of some others that are currently just-ok 5512s, cuz i haven't seen them, i don't think... ? jsph
  21. dutchy: ya, man -- what are we going to say about that "sultan of oman" dial? no, never mind...
  22. thanks, nanuq. what a shame. i mean, i'm definitely not in the market, but i was just looking around, and it's unpleasant to see this sort of thing. i'm nowhere -- nowhere -- near as sharp as you guys, but right off something felt wrong, if only the (T) being too low. what's extra weird is this person seems to have a very good reputation, and i think i'm reading this as being presented as genuine. hmpf... do _you_ know, by the way, if there have ever been any good reps of the 5513, or if, as was suggested to me a while back, i could only get a similar mbw and do a bunch of mods, wit a new dial? if there aren't any (or any good) 5513s, or even half-decent swiss ones (good enough for me), that's one heck of an oversight in the rep community. or maybe i'm just "too close to this thing!"... thanks again -- and i like the new avatar! take care, jsph
  23. that's what i've heard about the 5513 -- people seem to be paying attention to it again after all this time, but i don't know why. for me, i've always been a big fan, but the one day an rwg photo by eunomians of his gen on a nato -- put me over the top. i'm not sure how these fashions come and go, otherwise i'd... well, who am i kidding, i could never afford a real 5513, even if it were around 2k. as for mbw, you've hit the nail on the head. i've looked all around and asked some folks on the forums, and as far as i can tell there really isn't an mbw 5513. why the heck not?! it's beautiful, classic... i saw luckyyy post a military/3-6-9 dial version of the 5513, presumably mbw, fairly recently, but that was about it. if they came up with an mbw 5513, i would be all over that like white on rice. especially if they get the lume nice and creamy/ivory and not silly yellow/orange like some of the cheap vintage reps. i was actually just about to start a thread on the last rwg that would double as a petition or a pre-order wish list -- "who wants an mbw 5513?!" -- so our dealers/manufacturers would know how much of a demand there really is. frankly, even if it weren't mbw quality but a decent swiss in the $200+ category, i'd bite. andrew's $100-something miyota versions are kindof fun, but don't quite hit the target on this one. anyway, just my 5513 rant, i guess. thanks again for your help with this one. always wanting to learn more about these guys. take care, jsph
  24. thanks, jet. did indeed like those photos. thanks! the 5513 and 5517 are gaining status as serious grail watches... hm... from what you're saying, this dial could just as well be an MBW replica dial. they use singer blanks, too, i think. other than that, a heck of a lot different between this dial and the original and/or genuine... (take your pick). as for the hands, i think he's saying those are from a 5513... same as the dial, actually, though he says it could be 5513 or 5517. (don't know how you could think the former with the (T) there.)... thanks again. jsph
