Looks nice but lacks so many details that make the gen such a coveted piece ....IMHO one of the best models to have been released with the in house movements.....the 44mm 1950 case is a true neo-classic. The Gen dial is subtle and despite the PR / GMT and Date features - still retains the functional simplicity that Panerai are renkowned for. Enjoy it as long as you don't try to pass it off as a gen beacuse one or two people can't spot the differences... Just my 2 cents

Don't agree with flashing of reps to Ristis....who are you trying to fool ....them or yourself? It just shouldn't be done. It's a nice looking rep OK but has many flaws still and really just demonstates the lack of knowledge of the Risti's you showed it to.

Max .,...that's the best looking 111-H I have ever seen...dial text nailed , lume colour .....just begging for an H series CG .....!!!!
-
@Asad ...great looking watch but seems to have a few anomolies .... What serial is it ? Just L Swiss L dial would make it a very very early version (pre-G) and I was under the impression the crown guard was only the "flared" Pre-Vendome style Caseback and movement will clarify and ease your doubts... Don't take papers to mean anything ...I have Gen 082C and 004B papers but no gen watch of either..!!!

Only thing to add is DVSN sells std rep parts as well - this case set comes with his AR sapphire and new spring loaded 2.0mm crown. I have found his std rep CG's to be one of the best I have been able to source and closest to Jimmy CG's PAM 040 , 5218-201 / 202 / 203 and most of the Ti model dials fit std rep cases - I believe the interior milling on Ti cases is the same dims as std rep. Good luck

Dial is another classic DSN - some things better .....some things worse. - text / logo / lume colour / thickness etc... More concerning for me is the case set ....if this is the 201A case (the CG is the same) then the crown is not central within the guard (or the guard does not sit central over the crown) making winding uncomfortable and uneven Also the height of the bezel and 2 screw lug bars is going to be so wrong on an 000 base. In the end it's a rep and 10% of the cost of a gen. DSN's service has always been good IMHO and he is genuinely a watch enthusiast....but not enough to get this "simple" dial 100% correct.

Brand Loyalty ?!?

I used to collect the 4" Star Wars figures when I was 8....had all of the rare ones until I sold them when I was 12 (discovered birds, booze and fags ...yes it was tough on the streets of NE UK!!!) I think my childhood has a lot to answer for My son now collects the little "Disney" Cars The future may well be expensive for him (and me!!)

Gents - thanks for your input. I agree on the photos ...tried many angles under the same light to show the shades etc. I think the crown match to the case on the 28 is clearly visible though. What it doesn't show as well is the difference vs Rolli's 009 - the 28 has a distinct "blue steel" (Zoolander??!) hue that is disconcerting on its own until you compare to OEM images - again could be trickery of the lighting. If this was a competition ...I think Rolli's would win Price wise- Rolli's comes in a shade under $500 all in - Jack's is $600+ I believe Any one else got aftermarket PVD to show please ....28 especially so. Cheers

With thanks to: Ziggy Lello V Kruzer Chieftang SSSurfer Uncle Jay Davidsen Joshua Angus Panerai - for the franken bits and bob's Apologies if I have forgotten anyone... There's 8 more on the way .....one by one....! RWG rules Thanks

I just wanted to share these pics for comparison and hopefully start some debate with expert input. I have very little expert knowledge on the correct shade of PVD for A series PAM's - but these 2 are completely different. The PAM009 as shown recently was done by Rolli - who I know has researched long and hard to achieve the anthracite gray finish on the case set and buckle. The PAM028 was purchased from member Lolos back in February and has just returned from "Rehab" in Canada - it looks like it had overdosed on "abuse" whilst in the hands of it's previous owner. The case has been PVD's by Jack at International Watch Works - (http://www.angelfire.com/blues/andcameysiww/Firstpage.html) But I don't think this is the "Stealth Max" finish that he normally does. The quandary I have is that the 28 set also came with what I believe is an OEM A series 2 screw buckle - which is in the exact same colour PVD finish. I assumed this was a SS one originally and went with the case to IWW. The second quandary is the OEM crown (purchased from enesefe on Ebay) - this has the same "blue" colour nuances as the case set and buckle - although I purchased this separately and Ziggy installed. So I am no left wondering if the A series buckle is in the original OEM PVD - and Lolos had the case set matched to it. The OEM crown - which by deduction must have been made originally for PAM 28 - is such a good match to the case I know which one I prefer and think is correct - but could do with some input. I have many photos from Rolli of 202a that look to be the same colour as the Jack IWW - and photos of 009/004 that look exactly like Rolli's PVD... What do you guys and gals think ?

One of a kind ....as are your skills Rob. This is franken monster from the deep !!! -
Great Tip Jay ...thanks Now If I was a business man ...I'd put these in a nice box with a cloth, brand them up and sell them as a "Refinishing Device for Prestige Watches" - $20 should do it for starters Hence I am not a business man ....just a mere consumer muppet who'd probably have paid $20 if it wasn't for the advice on this board... Cheers

SSS- That 44mm 1950 case set puts the watch on a different level IMHO and I agree the date is something I miss when going back to handwounds. It's a damn good idea and very well executed.....enjoy it!!!
-
Beauties Jay ...tobacco dial and brass hands just look mint together and that PVD Logo must be priceless!!! Got to say that the SURFTECH gives the JAYTECH a run for it's money on looks.....that 44mm 1950 case set is a winner.

As gen as the come i'd say ...here's a reference. http://www.watches24seven.com/gallery2/mai...;g2_itemId=1030 Without wanting to hijack but on a similar subject ....was there ever a rep 2 screw tang buckle produced ? Just I have 1 on my 28 and wondering if this is gen or rep? cheers
-
Lello I appreciate the extra effort in striving to correct these flaws and your total honesty throughout. Many others could (and have) "taken the money and ran" You have a PM with my requirements cheers

Cheers V Destro PVD Sandwich Dial Historic ....now there's something that can only have been created for the collectors. You could probably double your investment overnight if you ever managed to obtain one. 48mm Rad's look nice - but not overly keen on the busy dials of some of the others. 26 re-issue would be the one I'd like to own ...

Finally a Panerai that is big enough for my wrists

6 and 9 are wrong and the font looks like DSN's ....you'll get called out straight away wearing this one.. What strap you got ? -
It's THE 196 Reference Piece IMHO......great purchase Stephane and amazing sale Kruzer ....must have been a rare alignment of the planets for that to occur!!! Superb photography....the detail just oozes out of those shots!!! Lovin' it!!
