  1. I thought I might have posted these before, but oh well...
  2. Welcome indeed Rather than replacing the crystal, have you tried using a 4-surface nail buffer to 'clean it up'? How much you polish depends on how vintage you want it to look You can also use toothpaste as a rubbing compound if you want to get it really smooth
  3. 1950s Classics for me today
  4. As above, there's no sign that the watch has been modded, so that is well and truly a successful mod Nice work indeed
  5. Thanks for the feedback It wasn't one I had an eye on, I just wondered about the subdial spacing Thanks for clarifying
  6. Might be my imagination, but I was thinking the subdials look a bit closely spaced http://halmartins.com/watch/rolex-preowned-watches/men-39-s/preowned-rolex-daytona/pre-owned-rolex-daytona-cosmograph-16523/prod_424.html
  7. If your watch was to flood, would you have the skills to de-case the movement to dry the case? If yes, then I would suggest holding the watch under a faucet running at full pressure for a few moments. That will let you know if the watch can withstand light immersion. If no, take the watch off the bracelet, and fit it to a leather strap. That way, you can take the watch off near a pool, and if anyone asks (highly unlikely) you can just say you don't want to get the watch wet and spoil the leather strap
  8. I took this into a watchsmith earlier to ask about the movement issue. Either he wasn't listening to me when I handed it over, or maybe he misheard me explaining that I'd built it myself, but his first question, was "When was it last serviced?" and when I replied that it never had been, that earned me a glare over the half-moons, and a 'tut tut tut' tongue clucking... I repeated that I'd built it myself, and then it began to sink in His only thoughts were that the second hand might be temporarily slipping on the pinion, but said that he didn't work on asian movements due to past experience, and the comparative cost of the service over a completely new movement. I said that I could probably buy a couple of new movements for the cost of the service, and he nodded silently, and suggested that the best thing to do, as it's (still) keeping good time, is to simply wear it till the movement completely fails, and then just replace the movement Overall good result
  9. I have no concerns about taking reps underwater...
  10. You can always have the crystal AR coated by Cheiftang... I'm sure any of the dealers listed here can get you the watch, but I doubt any will match a $40 shipped price... Best of luck with yor search
  11. I really don't think anyone is trying to claim credit, and it's clearly been a cooperative venture which has got the results. Dissappointing that Marinamm20 hasn't received a refund yet, we can only hope that that will change in time
  12. Personally, all I can say is kudos to those who put in the research and applied the pressure to get people their refunds. There is so much good will and generousity in this community, generousity in friendship, generousity with parts, generousity with gifting watches or money to other members, that nothing angers me as much as to see members getting rolled and scammed and very little, if anything, ever being satisfactorily resolved, as that is just such an abuse of the community goodwill, it really is just dishonorable. I appreciate that people can go through difficult circumstances, and that things can get out of control, but all they need to do is put their hands up about it and ask for time, not try and fly under the radar in the hopes things will just go away... It is certainly looking like there will be satisfactory resolutions, so once more, I would just like to say kudos to those who have made these resolutions possible, as that truly is the spirit of the community
  13. One thing's for sure about CQout, using the securepay feature protects the transaction, and if things aren't as ordered, or the dealer gets kicked off mid-transaction, your cash is safe (I believe it's three negative reviews, and then a dealer is given the boot) I'm perfectly happy to use it as a site I believe that the Swiss Watches are being sold for higher prices than forum dealers, but there are some good deals on the lower priced Asian watches, and, as above, dealers have to provide good service, or they are booted. That's true, but again, for the price, you can't really go wrong
  14. You're very welcome, they're awesome shots, and the watch looks fantastic I'd been reluctant to get another Planet Ocean, as I didn't want to run the risk of it feeling like a 'substitute' for the ones I had to sell, but, as that's not a color variation I've owned before... Likewise, still the same for me... I'm still not sure what's going on with the movement, as the second hand stalls if the rotor spins very quickly, but checking the time with other clocks while actually wearing it, it would appear to be keeping accurate time. What with it being my favorite, I guess I'll just keep wearing it till the movement completely stalls, or something better comes along
  15. Awesome, I thought you'd like it, it's got an awesome scent to it
  16. Awesome photos, amigo Did you ever get round to trying that Mercadona deodorant?
  17. Thanks for the link, I hadn't read the full story behind it before, I just remembered that it involved the brushes being licked to produce a finer point. Indeed, a very disturbing state of affairs...
  18. I think their newfound popularity might have something to do with that
  19. To be honest, nothing, I believe it is genuine, but you never know who might pop up and say such and such detail is wrong Here's hoping the lady gets a good price for it
  20. I have to admit, the watch itself has never struck me as my cup of tea, but that's some awesome photography, and a fine review Crazy thing is cerulean is my favorite shade
  21. That's understandable, I have to admit, I prefer bracelets myself as there's just no issue of if it gets wet or not However, I do like how a watch looks on a leather strap as a dress watch For me, function dictates the appearance If you find a dial a good price, go for it, it'd be an awesome conversion for the watch If you find you don't need the dial anymore, I'd be happy to give it a good home
  22. I know I've been wearing the 1655 lately as the 6200 movement has been acting up, but I think until this watch actually dies on my wrist, I won't be able to put it to the side
  23. Bro, put it on a black strap, and that'll look the business
