  1. An interesting read, I'll look forward to seeing the photos As mentioned by Freddy, I have also found toothpaste to be a good rubbing compound
  2. That's an absolutely fantastic project I wish I could help with the dial design, but I've not used CAD programs, just photoshop. If you need the the RWG logo file from the group rings as a dial logo, just let me know, and I'll send you the largest resolution copy I can find on my hard-drive
  3. I'm planning on putting the dial/movement from the en route 1655 into this: I might keep the 1655 in stock configuration, depending on how much I like it when it arrives. At the moment, I'm thinking the GMT function would be more useful than the AM/PM indicator, and I do miss wearing the low-profile case... I'll have to see how it looks when it arrives and I'll need to de-case the movement anyway to vintagize the dial, so it won't take a few moments to test-fit it in the low-profile case
  4. I'm still waiting on the 1655, as the postal service is going through a few strikes at the moment... All I'd be doing with regards a Tudor project, would be to remove the bezel insert, and then swap in the Tudor dial and bracelet, no hacking about, and probably only mild aging
  5. Sounds like a plan The coke variant of the GMT is definitely one of my favorite Rolex watches (something warped planned from me coming soon )
  6. I live in the UK, but visited Spain for my birthday last year. A friend of my father in law has a house near Puerto de Mazzaron where we stay when we visit We haven't been to Spain yet this year, but next time I'm in Spain, we'll definitely have to meet up for a few beers Next time you're in the Mercadona, give it a quick spray and see what you think
  7. As on the wristshot, that's a fine watch, bro Looking at that, I could be tempted to buy one to use as a case donor for a Tudor project
  8. That's an awesome watch, bro Any mods planned?
  9. I think you're quite right to say that a custom built franken is the top of the pyramid, with the WM9 being the top of what's available to buy 'out of the box' I'd definitely say the DJ is a watch which someone could love or hate, in terms of size, so something someone could do with 'testing the water' with before a major investment (which I would then suggest as a franken rather than WM9, as the feeling of looking down and knowing you built the watch yourself, really can't be beat ) Given my recent experiences with the budget DJ I bought, I think it's a good example of what can be available for a reasonable price, which to me, makes the $200 eta reps a little less worth the price of admission
  10. Define 'up a notch'... I'd bet that the chassis of both watches is identical, and wouldn't consider an ETA worth that kind of hike in price... The first time I tried on a DJ, I felt it was 'too small'. After wearing one for a few hours, I did get used to the smaller size case, but, I definitely think it's something someone would 'love or hate', so I'd suggest a budget variant first to 'test the water', then maybe upgrade the movement if necessary
  11. No problem That's one I added in the second list I rather liked the tuxedo dialed one (number 3) if you were going for a more formal look
  12. I'm not a gold fan, but that certainly is one gorgeous watch You could certainly do a Panerai version of it with an RG case I checked out the lume company to see about getting some of the lume paint, but they don't export it pre-mixed
  13. Awesome project, bro, I'll have to check out that Vach... What it made me think of, is the jogger's watches, which have the angled dial, for easy viewing
  14. Quartz doesn't power this watch
  15. That's a fine watch, congratultions indeed
  16. No change since yesterday (till now)... We're going out for a meal with friends, so I'll be giving the woody a field test Something I noticed last night while wearing it while watching a movie, was under low-light conditions, the dial just looks black. It's only under direct lighting, that the color of the 'wood' becomes noticeable
  17. Any time, bro I've always quite liked the look of the California dial, but never really felt the mix of Arabic and Roman numerals... That looks awesome though
  18. Thanks, and yes I was resting my elbow on the door, with my fist under my chin, to form a tripod of sorts for my other hand, which was holding the phone, so all nice and stable Custom Very nice That's fantastic, bro, what was the source of the dial?
  19. Mucho gracias, amigos None too bad for an iPhone cam pic, if I say so myself, it was just an idea I had while we were in the car this afternoon All I've done is flip it in photoshop, and added the border and text
  20. That's a fine watch for the price, bro Tt has pointed out specific mods, but I'll give my .2c of once you beat the sh1t out of it, it'll look perfect
