I can't speak for others, but I can appreciate a nice quartz watch just as much as a mechanical watch, if it's a nicely made watch. I think the problem with the elitists, is they're not looking as reps as watches, but simply as infringements, which, to my way of thinking, is a very narrow-minded view, especially to someone who claims to be a 'watch enthusiast'... Oh well

I've heard of such things before, I guess it makes them feel all elite and superior to pin a PAM to a tree with a nail gun... The thing which bugs me with that level of elitism, is that they should still appreciate it as a handmade watch, rather than being all snooty over a brand name infringement. Oh well

A very interesting read I'm sure I read somewhere that the requirement of a manual movement was because NASA minds didn't think that an automatic would work in space.

If anyone wants to say what a POS this is, please feel free, I won't be offended Y'all know how low my expectations are when it comes to watches, I'm actually quite happy with it as a watch, I'm just disappointed that I wasn't able to make the mods I had planned to do (that said, it's good to know that I disassembled the watch without totally trashing it, and it went back together again )

I just received this watch, which I had originally intended to use as a parts donor to repair/modify my now deceased GMTSub. When it arrived, I was actually fairly pleased. The quality of the bracelet and clasp was laughable, but, as my intention was to transfer over the movement/dial/hands and bezel insert, I wasn't overly concerned. Having stripped down (and re-built) both watches, I'm no further forward in my plan I got everything into the GMT case, and swapped over the entire bezel assembly, but, the crown would not close over the tube So, pulled it apart again, and re-assembled the Yacht-Master, but with a few modifications... I burned off the cyclops, glued the crystal into place to try and ensure water resistance (further testing to come) and fitted the GMTSub bracelet. This was for two reasons. 1. I need a diver's extension on the bracelet. 2. I really didn't like the polished mid links, and, to be honest, it didn't really look right on me anyway, so, I wound up with this: My choice of this watch had two inspirations: This was my favorite watch from my school days. I loved the uniformity of the color scheme, and, when I first looked into Rolexes, I loved how the Yacht-Master resembled it, but, I went with the Subs, so that's history. The other inspiration, was the UN MMD: This was why I chose the silver dial, rather than the granite dial, and, seeing how it reacts to the light, I'm pleased with the choice. Putting the Yacht-Master on the Submariner bracelet, provides enough 'brushed steel' to counteract the highlights of the polished steel, and reduces the bling factor. All in all, although I wasn't able to transplant the parts to regenerate the other watch as I had intended, I've still managed to wind up with something along the lines of what I had in mind. The plexi on my ProjectSub was quite loose, and removable with very little pressure from the back, which, when the watch got wet, allowed it to flood. I used some cyanoacrylate glue around the edge of the plexi, and it is now water-resistant again. I don't know how deep it would last, but it's withstood two 30 minute soaks in a Japanese-Style Bath without any kind of problem:)

Nothing exciting from me, I'm still wearing the ProjectSub on the silicon strap. I have to admit, it's incredibly comfortable, infact, it's unnoticeable on the wrist

Those're some pretty interesting differences, especially the sizing of the bezel assembly. I'm not too surprised about the difference in the color of the steel, as that's the kind of point RobbieG has made, that Rolex use their own alloys, and lower grade metals simply do not look the same. I guess it pretty much also means that someone couldn't actually mod a rep of the 116660 to look like gen, without building a franken of all external gen parts. Sure, a coat of matte lacquer might get the dial looking right, but if things like the bezel assembly, bracelet, and HEV are wrong, well, the dial's not going to carry the illusion by itself Thanks for the review, I'm really looking forwards to seeing the comparative shots when you're able to take them

I wouldn't even deal with Silix under those circumstances, as with a gamble, there's at least the possibility of getting a result. I'd go so far as to say only deal with Silix if it's money you would actually be prepared to flush down the toilet... Freddy, Best of luck getting a resolution to your issue. In the end, I just had to wash my hands of the deal. I hope you don't have to do likewise.

I can't point you towards a specific strap, but, I would suggest something along the lines of an aligator strap, in a deep burgundy color. I think that'd look really sharp with rose gold Best of luck with your search
