  1. Thanks for the feedback, guys I wondered if the bezel insert would be a different size, but wondered if it might be one of those things which looks a different size, but actually is the same in practice I guess what I had in mind, was a 'toned down' Yacht-Master, ie YM Insert and dial, but in the more subdued Sub case
  2. In terms of things like bezel insert, dial size, case sizes, etc, do these two watches have parts which are the same size, or are they quite different? Thanks in advance
  3. Something a little different for me today I've been looking for this watch for quite a while, but eventually found it today, and, the date wheel had actually frozen on the correct date, so all I had to do was correct the time I'm going to be going out/dressing up smart tomorrow evening, so thought I'd give this a little 'breaking in time' so I won't be fiddling with it all evening trying to get used to it It's also been dressed thus:
  4. I think you're quite right, there, my friend Here's my contribution to the theme
  5. That's looking really nice Awesome acquisition
  6. As promised, here's the serial number for my vintage Sub (Silix): R863698

Bro, certain vintage subs didn't have crown guards... What you ordered, is, aside from not having 50 years of wear and tear, pretty much historically accurate...

I agree with Freddy, certainly not a bad price for such a watch. I forget how much I paid for my vintage Submariner, but I'm sure it was more than you paid for yours If it eases the sting a little, I ordered mine from a recommended dealer, and still got given the wrong model, so I can understand the frustration of getting the wrong thing, and as mentioned by Demsey, that is how Submariners of that type feel Light, flimsy, plasticky... As someone pointed out to me once about Submariners, they were not originally conceived as being a 'luxury watch', but as a totally functional, stripped down, tool watch. Similar to how a car intended for racing gets stripped down to the bare essentials, and is no longer the luxury ride it once was Once I realized that, my outlook on Submariners changed That said, it's a bit of a bitch that yours keeps stopping... Still, that at least gives you three options for the watch: Keep it for parts for future projects Make it the future project, and transplant in a new movement Sell it, so people can use it for their own projects. I sold two non-functional Planet Oceans not so long ago, as part donors/project watches, and someone bought them from me, so, as long as you were to advertise the watch accurately, I'm sure someone would take it off your hands for a reasonable price Heck, I'd make you an offer myself, but I just don't have any spare cash... Best of luck with whatever you decide to do with it
  9. Wow, that is one heck of a transformation :thumbsupsmileyanim: Absolutely awesome work I also have one of those Silix subs (the dial from it went into my GMTSub) I have got plans to do further modification work to the Silix Sub, but it appears to have gone walkies from my collection
  10. At this moment in time, yes, but, they'll soon be winging their way to a new home, as circumstance dictates they be sold... I just checked the SMP, and that doesn't have any serial numbers, and the PO does not either
  11. Woo Hoo The lume on the dial is an excellent fit for the rest of the watch
  12. I would I just think it looks like an awesome dive watch, and with chrono features, for me, it's all about the aesthetic, not the name on the dial
  13. New bracelet and a new dial? Regardless, it's looking good
  14. That's a real tragedy, sympathies indeed, and best wishes towards those families.
  15. My GMTSub is too crappy to have serial numbers That said, my EuroFakes submariner did have a serial number. Having sold it, I can't check the number, but I'm sure it was either Y or Z series... I think Y. I'll be sure to add any serial numbers I acquire in the future
  16. That is class Are these 20mm lug size?
  17. You say that like it's a bad thing Communism FTW!!! (if it actually worked, that is )
  18. Not much to say to that, other than 'Wow'
  19. Thanks bro, I might give it some consideration. The thing which is putting me off slightly, is that the bracelets don't have a diver's extension, and the rubber strap is deployant rather than buckle, so again, only a fixed size... Other than that, I can see one going on my 'to get' list at some point
  20. Damn, that watch has taken a flogging! I bet it has more than a few stories to tell... @ Stephane: I trust no one was hurt, my friend
  21. Happy birthday, bro, I hope it was a good one
