for me, the whole point of having a rep is enjoying something that is beautiful, but would otherwise be inaccessible to me. It's not about representing myself to others, it's about my enjoyment of a piece regardless of its price. I find that the broad majority of people here enjoy a piece for its intricacy and passion, and whether or not some j-hole would judge me for wearing a timepiece that is supposedly out of my range is irrelevant. Of course, discretion is a skill and a virtue, but so too is passion and joy for any timepiece, so I stick to one prime law: appreciate the intricacy and beauty of a thing first and foremost.
Exactly the same situation for me. Price is irrelevent to if I like a watch, and if I like a watch, I'll buy it. With regards daily wear, I don't think cost is the issue with what one can pull off, but their overall image, and if the watch is incongruous to that image, it is going to get unwanted attention. Not because it might be a rep, but because it would look out of place with the wardrobe. Eg: A really high-end dress watch is going to look out of place when worn with a T-shirt and combat trousers, simply because the style is wrong, not because of the cost of the gen...

Thanks for the responses, guys
I'm really in two minds about my project plans... I love how the ceramic insert looks on the GMTIIc, so I'm really keen to use an insert in my project, but I am concerned how well it might last on a watch intended as a beater... I think that while a regular insert might not have quite the same impact, it would be more long-lasting... Of course, I don't have the cash to start this project for a while, I just want to know my options for when the time comes

I agree completely, when I first saw it, I wasn't 100% convinced, but, it gradually grew on me, and, having tried on the gen, I can honestly say that it is a gorgeous watch
I'm not sure I like it enough to keep one 'in factory condition' (
) but it sure is awesome

My wife has the white ceramic ChanelJ12 with the bling for over a year. No problems at all.
Cool beans
Has it been subjected to much 'rough handling', or just the usual daily activities?

I feel I should add some input here. I own(ed) several ceramic watches and for the most part they are fine. Ceramic is brittle, if struck with a hard object, it will tend to shatter. If you were to drop a ceramic watch on a hard floor, I would imagine something would break, either a link, case side, case back etc. If you were to sit on a ceramic watch, knowingly or unknowingly it would likely break too
I've banged several of mine against a door but nothing happened to it. Maybe I got lucky.. To put it short, ceramic is very hard, and scratch resistant, but brittle.
Hope that helps somewhat bro
Indeed, very helpful, bro
I guess it would be fair to say that a ceramic watch isn't really well suited to any kind of environment or activities where it might be subjected to any unexpected knocks/drops etc...
Thanks indeed for that, it's certainly made a choice for me with regards my GMTSub V2.0 plans, and I likely won't use the ceramic insert in the bezel, as, from what you've said, I don't think it would stand up to being worn in all circumstances. Of course, it probably would be fine, but a metal insert is much easier to replace (if need be) than a ceramic one, and, while scuffs on a metal insert can add a little character, a watch being sans insert, wouldn't look so great
Thanks again

I can't really make any other suggestions, but, I will say congratulations and best of luck with your upcoming wedding
You won't get better advise on the subject than this awesome band of brothers

I'm not sure who patented it, but my favorite innovations are practical ones: Deployant clasps, and the Diver's extension.
Some are a bit more complicated in manufacture than others, but, they all do the same thing, and I think that is a very simple, but functional thing
When I was younger, I was fascinated to see a watch bracelet 'get smaller' to fit the wrist, without being 'done up' like a regular strap, so I guess it's only fitting that I find the Diver's extensions of similar interest, as they perform the exact same function: Changing the size of the bracelet, without any need to 'break the bracelet' for any kind of re-sizing. It's just a simple process of going from one size, to the other, and back again

you can have mine, its made from gold painted pepsi cans
You've got to post some pics of it
I know folks might think I'm crazy, but I actually find it interesting to see the variations in these watches, as most are like nothing Rolex ever made
I know that a rep's a rep, and a fake is a fake, but with the real fantasy models, it's the 'what if...' aspect which appeals to me

What an awesome experience
Thanks for sharing, I can see the study and its contents in my mind's eye, what a truly remarkable experience

I'd say the most versatile and 'middle of the road' Seamaster is the 42.54mm Planet Ocean.
I considered getting a 2254.50 as an upgrade from my Submariner (upgrade in terms of larger hands, larger dial, larger luminous indices, not in terms of brand recognition) but, while I was 'doing the rounds' Casino Royale was released, and I went for the Planet Ocean instead. In terms of personal favorite, I would say it is the 2354.80, but I think the Planet Ocean is slightly more versatile in terms of color, and the integrated crown guards are sublime

This watch has appealed to me, on the quiet, for quite some time when I was in my 'Panerai Phase'
I always thought that if any Rolex would appeal to me, it would be this watch, but I was always concerned about the dial size when compared to a PAM. Of course, having gotten used to a sub-sized watch again, I can honestly say that this is a gorgeous watch, and a 'must have' for any collection
-
I felt like a change and figured this one hasn't seen any wrist time in quite a while.
-
Crazy as this might sound, I would like a really bad 'fake Rolex' for my collection, even if just for shits and giggles.

Happy with both my Hublot Ceramic and GMT Master 2 ceramic. No complaints, scratches etc.
That's good to hear
Have either taken the odd 'ding' or two and come through unscathed, or simply been worn carefully?
-
Having read about the unfortunate who shattered the bezel insert of their GMTIIc, I was just wondering what experiences folks might have had with other ceramic applications on a watch, be it rep or gen, and regardless of brand involved
-
Personally, if those were my watches, I would sell off the Rolex, simply because the divers watch is more suited to my needs. No other reason at all, just a case if which would I get the most use out of. Of course, that's just my .2c

Sent from my iPhone...bitch
Just kidding...take out everything after the ellipsis
Maybe I should start adding that

The main problem with rep watches and water resitance is not construction but quality control, the parts of the noob, super ocean, ssd are very good you just need to know that they are put together properly and all gaskets are in place and greased if that is the case then they are fine for swimming, but you have to be sure or run the risk. some people like fakemaster dont want that risk, personaly i welcome it. get it checked and then get it wet.
Couldn't've put it better myself

Thanks for the info bro
I'll see if I can get that episode now, will be a good way to finish for tonight
I think you need to start a thread about your movie memorabilia, will be interesting to see what other things you've managed to get your hands on
No problem, I think you'll like it
The acting's pretty hammy in places, but 'the escape from the mountain men' (don't want to go into more detail and spoil it) is absolutely awesome
You might be right about that thread idea, the only problem is much of my collection is still in storage, however, I can give you this little taster

It was definitely more like the bracelet on your vintage GMT II, rather than that bracelet
If I recall, it was DD rather than DJ... Was the Oysterquartz available with the day feature?

Very nice bro
Love the first film, I haven't really paid attention to the others or the series. Looks like my internet speed will suffer a little bit very soon...
Thanks, bro
The second movie... Don't even bother watching it... Forget it even exists. The producers do (or at least try to)
Highlander III is watchable, but nowhere near as good as the original movie. The series is good. Some of the early episodes weren't always so good, but once it got going, it was an awesome series. If you can download an episode called Mountain Men, that was a particularly good one (awesome decapitation at the end, as well as an awesome way of escaping from mountain men
) Some of the later episodes, featured a villain played by Roland Gift, from Fine Young Cannibals, and those episodes are definitely among the most memorable. Okay, sure, he was the villain, but he was one smooth mofo
[Edit]
Freefall was an episode with Joan Jett, and not the episode I was actually thinking of

Get the SSD...
@DeeTay: That review was by far the most impressive review of RWG ever imo.... A deep dive real test of the ssd...
I am going to pressure test my WM9 V2 Sub , so watch out for my releveant (future) post
It was indeed
I think the fact that it was carried out by actual diving industry professionals, rather than simply a watch enthusiast, made it all the more interesting, and impartial. From their point of view, they wouldn't have cared if it passed or imploded, but, the attention to detail and procedure (like taping it between two pillows in case of explosion) was fantastic. Interesting also to hear that even gens can 'simply stop' in those environments as well

Very cool TJ. I loved Highlander
Thanks
Loved the first movie and the series, but with the movies, II and III, I could leave, Endgame just didn't quite work for me for some reason (I wasn't over impressed with Bruce Payne's performance...) and I haven't yet watched the latest movie (not sure if I want to, after Endgame
) Of them all though, the original movie is still my favorite

I've just watched the Nicolas Cage movie Bangkok Dangerous, and wondered if anyone might be able to identify this digital watch, which featured heavily in the movie, and was worn by both Cage and his Thai prot
