  1. One good rule of thumb for the "well turned out" is that your watch should be equal to about 3x your suit. Lots of people get a great watch and an off-the-rack suit; common but not well matched.

If your best suit retails for $600 to $1000, then a low end Rollie or average Omega will match and speak well of your taste and "means"

If you are wearing Armani for $2-3K, Day Date (precious metal) Rolex or Daytona.

If you are wearing Brioni, Zegna etc for $5-6K and up, F'em wear a Timex, Swatch or whatever you want. Just make sure the shoes and tie measure up. There are no reps in the high end suit, shoes, and tie game

And remember, Panerai is always perfect.

I'd never heard that rule, but it's certainly an interesting one :)

  2. @TeeJay, that's what I think will end up happening either that or just getting me a gen watch in the 100-300$ range. Thanks :-)

@Fakey, mines getting to be like that she still will listen to me babble on but in most cases she'll either turn her music up a little or out right ignore me lol

No problem, bro :) If she's not into watches, then it's probably best not to make her sit through page after page of "This one's pretty cool..." or "Mofo the Badass wore this one in Exploder: The Musical..." that'll definitely get you the rolling eyes treatment  Get some ideas of what you want, have a flick through the dealer sites by yourself, then when you find the one (or ones) you like, just leave the page open (or multiple pages if you like a few, so they're all available for quick reference) and then call her in, making sure she has her card with her ;)

  3. Big Bling is a tough competition -

    Lots of competitors there!

I'll submit this elegant little Big Bang with the subtle diamond finish -

    439 hand set diamonds - $1M +

Again, only really wearable by someone into Big Pimpin', but as a design, it works, rather than looking like a watch which had a load of jewels randomly added to it :good:

  4.

    That design actually works...

    Blingy? Absolutely

Can only be worn by someone into Big Pimpin'? Fo sure...

But it's not actually gaudy, in the way which Rolex's venture into the "Pimps 'n' Ho's" market are... Of course, after it got worn a while, and some of the jewels come out of the settings, I don't think it'd have quite the same impact

  5. How come there's no rep of the MMD yet?? :o I know I've got dibs on Robbie's, when he ascends off this mortal coil, but I don't fancy waiting that long to try one... I'd've thought that the simplicity of a non-chrono watch would have been a fairly easy start for the factories... At this rate, I might have to actually buy a Yacht-Master as a substitute

    Oh. There is...

Not sure I fancy the idea of flushing three hundred bucks down the toilet though...

    :bangin:

  6. Haven't taken this off yet!

Looking good, my friend :) What awesome locale were these shots taken in?

PS So much for the myth of not getting reps wet ;)

After reassembling the watch yesterday, I'm wearing my "de-rubberized" ROO ...

This is what the bezel looks like without the rubber coating...

    ROOderubberized.jpg

Customized? That gets my thumbs up right off the bat :)

As for myself... I tried putting my Planet Ocean, but it only stayed on for a few minutes, and the GMTSub is firmly back in place

  7. Don't make me post the infamous one and only No-Date Day-Date..... :yu:

    Children, avert your eyes.....

    :p

Is that a hole in the dial just below the '12' marker?

@TJ - Quartzzzz, you mean you expected anything else, sweeps like a rollerblading epileptic giraffe

Awesome :tu::lol: To be honest, I did actually wonder if it might have had a mechanical movement, due to the GMT designations... Silly me

  8. How come there's no rep of the MMD yet?? :o I know I've got dibs on Robbie's, when he ascends off this mortal coil, but I don't fancy waiting that long to try one... 9. lol, you're mad.

However, I have a similar experiment under Wey. Literally. outside the Yvonne Arnoud Theatre, Guildford station pump house. My POS Asian Sub stopped working there.

    I will not however be able to supply any infos to data. That will be the fodder for Muslim archaeologists who will find the piece well into the future;

"Hmmmmm, praise Allah! The Asians once inhabited this holy land after intermingling with the Swiss! They fashioned steel and brass into trinkets of the devil! And held a penchant for the occaisional Wimpy Burger!"

    No one gets history right.

Anyhoo, good luck with your trial!

Nothing better than leaving stuff around to create historical inconsistencies for future archeologists :D I've been doing it for years, it's just a case of getting more and more creative with the endeavors, to really keep them scratching their heads

  10. Easy to read I'll give you that T., but flaws aside I can't share your sentiment of liking it in anyway. What I'm trying to figure out is what movement they used to get the case and spacing to look like that. We know it isn't a 2894 (and when will Seagull or Sellita clone that BTW?) so what is it?

I guess to each his own :) I mean, I don't like it enough to buy one, and probably wouldn't even at $108 with an Asian movement, but as watches go, I've certainly seen some worse ones out there

I wouldn't have a clue about the movement, as that's not an area I'm overly familiar with...

  11. I guess it's true when they say one man's shit is another mans gold, I actually really like it... Large clear dial, noticeable hands and indices, it may not be perfect in terms if replication, and the price is a little steep, but as watches go, I quite like it :)

  12. When I had this rep I wore it to many a black tie function surrounded by those who know how much of a watch freak I am (many of them also gen collectors like me) and not one of them even suspected it was a rep. Instead, they all complimented me on what a nice VC example it was. Sounds like in your circles you might expect a similar situation. Try it out.

I don't like to crop my bro's posts, but in this case, I just had to point out the absolute truth in these boldened words. If people know the status of the person wearing the rep, and know that they're able to afford a gen, even if confronted with an obvious rep, the mental logic 'They can't be wearing a rep, they make $$$$$$$$$$$$ a year, they can afford the real thing... It must be real...' tends to win out ;)

  13. The true nasty, dug out of my drwaer a while back.... stunning in a bad way. The feel is the real joy though, recycled Pepsi cans and gold paint.

Oh man, that's so grim, it's awesome :tu:

The scary thing, is with a little work (okay, several transplants  ) You could probably get a reasonably presentable watch out of it :) A GMT hand would be a good place to start ;)

  14. @TeeJay and others...

I enjoy working with watcheden (tony, sarah, etc)...but i have had a few wrong watches sent...this seems to be an issue when there are new/old versions of a similar watch...

i contacted tony on my glashutte issue and they understood, were apologetic AND offered to ship my replacement items before receiving my return -- as long as i send them a tracking number...i am a "good" customer and i'm sure that's why...a very nice gesture in a world of mistrust, ya know?!...

the biggest frustration with mis-orders is the turnaround time...

even though, i've had a few issues, it won't stop me buying from them again...

    R-

That's certainly a very honest, and positive review :)

  15. How do you get your significant other to order a watch for you? Mine wants to get me one (a rep of some kind) for my grooms gift for our wedding but I don't know if I want to leave her to try to pick one O_O not that I think she's by any means stupid but she hasn't done near the amount of research any of us have on the subject... How would you go about letting her surprise you but still knowing she's going to get you a good watch other than meticulously teaching her everything as quickly as possible? lol

Sorry bro, I should've answered before. My wife's bought a couple of watches for me (Planet Ocean 42mm, PAM004) in the past, and the easiest way to get what you want, is to simply discuss it, then go to the dealer site, say "This is the one I want", and sit back while the transaction goes through on her credit card B)

Okay, it takes the element of surprise out of it, but, it does save on any hint dropping or guessing which might result in the wrong watch :good:

  16. Just so you don't have a giant band in the way right? I think I'll try harder to find rubber gloves as I found medical gloves but those aren't heavy duty enough and we don't have dishwashing gloves...

Medical gloves won't do it... You'll need dishwashing gloves for the texture on the undersides of the digits :)
