  1. I agree, the watch isnt bad and it has grown on me in the last 48 hours. My big thing is it wasn't what i ordered. I ordered a vintage sub with a crown guard. Thanks for the encouragement though.

    Brian

Bro, certain vintage subs didn't have crown guards... What you ordered, is, aside from not having 50 years of wear and tear, pretty much historically accurate...

  2. I agree with Freddy, certainly not a bad price for such a watch. I forget how much I paid for my vintage Submariner, but I'm sure it was more than you paid for yours ;) If it eases the sting a little, I ordered mine from a recommended dealer, and still got given the wrong model, so I can understand the frustration of getting the wrong thing, and as mentioned by Demsey, that is how Submariners of that type feel  Light, flimsy, plasticky... As someone pointed out to me once about Submariners, they were not originally conceived as being a 'luxury watch', but as a totally functional, stripped down, tool watch. Similar to how a car intended for racing gets stripped down to the bare essentials, and is no longer the luxury ride it once was ;) Once I realized that, my outlook on Submariners changed :)

That said, it's a bit of a bitch that yours keeps stopping... Still, that at least gives you three options for the watch:

    • Keep it for parts for future projects

      • Make it the future project, and transplant in a new movement

Sell it, so people can use it for their own projects. I sold two non-functional Planet Oceans not so long ago, as part donors/project watches, and someone bought them from me, so, as long as you were to advertise the watch accurately, I'm sure someone would take it off your hands for a reasonable price

:) Heck, I'd make you an offer myself, but I just don't have any spare cash...

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do with it :good:

  3. I agree. I think MY outdid himself on this 1. And considering phase 1's humble (Silix) beginnings

(ROLS176 at right & no, the bracelet in this pic is not the gen)

I am amazed at how well it turned out

Wow, that is one heck of a transformation :thumbsupsmileyanim: :thumbsupsmileyanim: Absolutely awesome work :good:

I also have one of those Silix subs (the dial from it went into my GMTSub)

I have got plans to do further modification work to the Silix Sub, but it appears to have gone walkies from my collection :g:

  4. Thanks TJ

But I have been "labelised" Rolex obviously.

Wonder why that is ...

Posting serials of all brands was my idea ....well popular ones and which franken are out there....

Omega comes to mind, so does IWC...see what I mean.

Come on TJ you have Omegas, don't you? :D

At this moment in time, yes, but, they'll soon be winging their way to a new home, as circumstance dictates they be sold...

I just checked the SMP, and that doesn't have any serial numbers, and the PO does not either :)

  5. Teejay gets the cigar. :good:

Within minutes of my completing work on this stretchable 7206 rivet bracelet, my latest MY dial arrived in the mail (I also received another insert, but I am reserving that 1 for the 2 project). :whistling:

Nanuq, do I sense some eagerness?

    Woo Hoo :thumbsupsmileyanim:

The lume on the dial is an excellent fit for the rest of the watch :)

  6. I have looked at this watch and looked at this watch. I ended up getting a gen Tissot SeaStar 1000 that I thought looked similar enough. I sold the SeaStar after deciding my Festina Manhattan looked better with no glare on the dial.

If this watch were stamped Invicta instead of Blancpain, I don't think any of us would want it.

I would  I just think it looks like an awesome dive watch, and with chrono features, for me, it's all about the aesthetic, not the name on the dial :)

  7. With the Black Rubber strap.....it will go with anything casual......or beach wear! I agree, it needs a lume! I'll probably have it done sometime!

Thanks bro, I might give it some consideration. The thing which is putting me off slightly, is that the bracelets don't have a diver's extension, and the rubber strap is deployant rather than buckle, so again, only a fixed size... Other than that, I can see one going on my 'to get' list at some point :good:

  8. Amigo! Que paso? Believe it or not, just black paint! Zip on the lume!

All's good thanks :) Well, nothing a few commissions wouldn't cure  really, just black paint? :o That really surprises me. I guess I could always get one and having it phantom lumed, I'm just wondering how versatile the watch itself is... Compared to a Submariner, how well would you say it goes with jeans and a white shirt?

  9. It's been awhile since I started this:

    Hump Day (Wed.)

and the rest for Thurs and Fri:

    3someroomod.jpg

    Careful out there this Friday.......................the 13t :evil::evil2::irvine:

Awesome collection, bro, the more I see them, the more I'm tempted to invest in an AP... I do have one quick question about the one with the black numerals and hands (the safari?) Is that 'phantom lume', or just black paint?

  10. the gmt movement used is a typical 21 jeweled one (591HZ 35ZUAN), at least in mine, and was about $35 alacarte, which also broke 6months later. Maybe mine wasnt lubricated well, the crown didnt pull out very well and handwinding the first few times resulted in metal filings.

NOT ALL alphas carry the same GMT movements (even within the same model), so you never really know what you might find inside. There are some Alphas that have genuine Miyota movements. If you can get an alpha for under $50 delivered it's probably worth it for the movement and parts alone. But personally I wouldnt bother, as the parts used overall aren't upto par IMO.

That's very interesting to know :) I had wondered if the Alpha branding might have ensured some level of consistency in the quality of the movements/ their 'from the factory' condition... I had thought that if the movements were in servicable condition, then it might have been worth the extra cost, compared to a CQout 'disposeable donor', but, if there's that level of inconsistency, I think I'll stick with the CQout bargain bin for my parts donors :) Thanks for the input :good:
