  2. Thanks for the comments guys, I have so far sourced gen dial, hands, crown, crystal and insert. I think the only other thing that I would like is a cal. 3135 movement. I think I am going to build the watch with TC dial, hands and 2824.2 movement and only gen crystal & insert for now, that should give me a watch that will keep me satisfied for a while whilst I am sourcing a gen movement and dont ruin the dial. I am looking to spend circa. £2k inc movement on this project.
  3. Guys, I am considering a Super Franken Sub 16610 project using TC mid-case as my starting point, however I have a question with regards to movement. Obviously the period correct movement would be the cal. 3135 (which I know that the TC case can house without modification) but does the cal. 3035 movements seem easier to obtain. Does the TC case house the cal 3035 movement without modification ?? I know that the 3135 and 3035 have the same diameter but the 3035 is slightly thicker than the 3135 so would there be issuse with the stem position or hands rubbing on the crystal ?? Cheers Ryan
  4. Anyone know whether the issues have been sorted with this movement yet ?? Thinking of going 3135 clone so that I don't have to ruin a gen dial
  5. I may have sourced a gen movement (working but not serviced) for a reasonable price, the outlay on the other parts has so far set be back circa. £900 so would be spending less than £2k. Decent examples over here go for around £4k so would still be saving around £2k on a gen.
  6. Can someone help me out...... So waiting for all the gen parts has got me thinking (a bad thing I know) but I am considering the possibility of going super franken in the future (depending on whether or not I can pick up a gen movement at a reasonable price). Does a TC case house a gen cal. 3035 movement ?? I know that it houses a gen cal. 3135 movement but with the 3035 being slightly thicker I am unsure. Has there been any update on the Yuki 3135 Asia clone movement ?? I have read the review posted by watcher and it looks as though there were problems, have these been addressed yet ?? Is a 3135 clone a viable option ?? I currently have a gen dial and hands (I know that gen hands dont fit an ETA but picked them up at a reasonable price) and am loathe to ruin a gen dial by cutting the feet to fit an ETA movement. So am considering the possibility of building first with an ETA movement and TC dial & hands for now until I have the funds to source a gen movement or changing to a Yuki 3135 clone (if it is any good??) and then swapping out to a gen movement at a later date. Any help / thoughts would be much appreciated
  7. Sorry was having trouble with the website the other day, all good and in there now! Cheers
  8. Thanks for the advice, I'll bear that in mind. I have sourced an ETA dial spacer so I have that if required (would be useful as I could glue the dial to this too)
  9. Guys, I am about to embark on my first franken build but require a few copper dial feet. Does anyone know where I can source a few (4) copper dial feet ?? I have seen places selling them by the 100 but I really dont need that many. Cheers Ryan
  10. Count me in, I'll give it a shot!
  11. Maybe I haven't been that clear.... I've brought the stand alone parts from TC minus the movement. I have purchased a gen Insert, Dial, Crown & Crystal along with an ETA 2824 movement. Now all I need to do its put it all together
  12. I'm using TC hands, I got the canon pinion changed to the H4 when I purchased the movement so should all be good there. Not really wanting to go to super Franken with movement just yet. I'm also considering using the TC dial for now in case I decide on the gen movement route in the future but is rather just build it once! There are just a few things I'm unsure about even with all the research I've done it's not 100% clear.
  13. I've played about with simple watches but never anything on this scale / expense. I've contacted a few modders / watchmakers to see what they come back with. Part of me really wants to attempt this as the sense of achievement if I manage to pull it off would be immense but on the flip side the sadness if I was to ruin these parts would also probably be great!! In an ideal world I'd like to have a go myself then if I fail pass it on to a pro who would be able to complete it for me (as long as I haven't stuffed any parts) Anyone got any tips / answers for my queries at the bottom of the previous page??
  14. Sounds like sensible good advice, especially as the gen dial wont have any feet once they have been clipped. Get everything in place with the rep dial then just swap the dial over - thanks Do I need to remove the date wheel from the movement to do this or can it be carried out in-situ ?? Am I also going to need a dial spacer so that the dial doesnt interfere with the changing of the date ?? I have the H4 cannon pinion on my 2824.
  15. Also is there an 'easy' way to align the DWO to the original date wheel ?? Does the TC DWO have a 'line' or reference point to follow ?? Do I need to remove the 2824 date wheel in order to apply the overlay or can this be done in position ??
  16. This may be a stupid question but what does this have to do with any of the questions in my post ??
  17. Ok so the time is now approaching for the start of my first project..... I decided to purchase the stand alone parts from TC for his Sub Type II and sourced an ETA 2824-2 movement, this is going to be the basis of my build. I have picked up a number of genuine parts (some are currently enroute as I type); Gen Insert, Gen Crystal, Gen Dial & Gen Crown. I must admit, I am strating to worry that I have bitten off more than I can chew , especially with the gen dial mod. but I am willing to give it a go and see if I can pull it off (if not I may come begging to some of the UK based modders for some help & advice - any suggestions ??) Through copious amounts of bedtime reading & research on similar build projects on here I think I have a good basis on which to begin but I do have a few questions so hopefully some of the modders who have carried out a similar project can help ?? 1) The gen dial mod to ETA is the most daunting part, part of me doesnt want to ruin a gen dial by clipping the feet but part of me really wants to go full bloodied at this franken. I have posts about gluing the dial to the the date wheel spacer ring, using the dial dots or using the ETA feet positioning too that was manufactured by another member. What is the best way to approach this ?? I dont think that I have a date wheel spacer ring on the 2824 ?? 2) When installing the crystal do I need to use a crystal sealant between the gasket & bezel or will the crystal gasket be enough to waterproof the crystal ?? 3) I have a gen crown but need the inner crown gasket as it was missing. Does anyone know where I can source the correct gasket ?? Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers Ryan
  18. Has there been any update on these ?? Very good idea and I will soon hopefully be strating a Franken Sub build with a gen dial and ETA 2824.2 movement, is there one available for this combo yet?? Cheers
  19. Thanks for the reply, I was aware that it is a 25-295 crystal that I am after but the listing was for a Rolex GMT II sapphire crystal. Un-packaged etc. I couldn't see an etched crown on the crystal, will have a better look tonight. Do all gen crystals have a crown @ 6 o'clock ?? I am starting to think that it is a rep crystal but as I said before I only paid a very small amount for this so not too fussed either way. Are the GMT II and Sub crystals interchangeable ??
  20. Can any of the modders help ?? Does the GMT II crystal fit in a 16610 Sub ?? How can you tell a gen crystal as opposed to a rep one ?? I purchased a crystal off the bay (at a ridiculous price) so whether gen or not I've not lost any real money, but want a gen crystal for my TC Franken build. Also, do all crystals have the rolex crown @ 6 o'clock as the one I picked up doesnt. Any help would be much appreciated. And I can put pics up later if it helps ?? Cheers
  21. Hi Guys, Any chance that someone could post the download link again ?? I keep getting the error Cannot complete the retrieval process The retrieval process could not be completed. The file could not be found on the server. The retention period has expired. Would love to have a read of this over the weekend
  22. Is there a part number for the gen AR cyclops crystal for the 16610 that replaced the 25-295 C2 ??
  23. Does anyone know if gen parts are interchangeable with the PO 42mm ?? I have seen a gen bezel & crystal for sale and wondered if they would fit my recent purchase. Cheers!
  24. Thanks for all your advice guys, I am in no doubt as to the task in front of me here but it's definitely something that I want to do. I've fiddled with parts in the past but nothing on this scale. I'm asking the question, 1 to learn and 2 experience from you guys who have already completed a project like this. I have plenty more research / reading 'how-to's', but I also have some parts to find which will give me time. I'll keep you all updated and no doubt will be back with more questions.
  25. Thanks, think I'll still go with a TC DWO, cheaper and not going for a Superfranken, just Franken
