Its a personal preference. I wore my genuine submariner with a regular datejust style clasp for about three years (bought the extra clasp when I bought the watch). At the time, my wrist was smaller and the regular clasp centered up better on my wrist. Most people outside of these watch forums won't know the difference anyway. A person owning the genuine watch might also prefer the divers clasp and have it put on their datejust as you have chosen to do. Just because a watch isn't exactly the way it was originally set up doesn't have any bearing on whether it is genuine.

I recently purchased a watch movement on ebay. Normally, I pay for items I buy right away. However, since the purchaser didn't have enough sales for the paypal guarantee to cover the entire purchase, I sent them an e-mail to find out where they were located (thought I'd like to communicate with the person prior to sending the money). I haven't recieved a response yet. Nothing strange about that. However, I received an ebay message today from a differnt seller stating that they were the seller of the item. See below: nees1081 I am the seller of the ********, item number: ********. Please contact me at: DNewman netbusiness.com with your full name and shipping address in order to start the transaction. Unfortunately my paypal is unavailable for a while but, once I have received your details, ebay will contact you with an invoice and payment instructions. (Please insert "at" sign in my email address). This is the account information of the person who sent the message. It is interesting that the person has been a member since 1979. Wonder if that means this person lurks on watch boards like this one to find victims? I'm curious as to how the person was able to send me the e-mail. Generally when I attempt to contact someone on ebay that I haven't had any dealings with, the system won't allow the e-mail to go through. Anyway, just thought I'd post this as a warning. I doubt the nees1801 message is legitimate. Too bad since he had enough sales and good feedback for me to qualify for the insurance (although he hasn't had any sales in a year). Just hope the real seller isn't connected in any way.

I e-mailed the seller. He said his Ti crowns were for the handwind and that the PVDs were for an automatic.

If I recall correctly from Asad's post about what to do with a Jimmy Fu case, people were suggesting both auto and manual watches. So this makes sense. I think there may also be a difference with the crown guards.

I'm just very impressed with your ability to source parts. You always seem to have the good stuff.

I prefer a leather strap to the bracelet, that is the way I wear mine.

How difficult would it be to take a branded 111 sandwich dial and convert it to nonbranded? Could you take it appart and paint the top black and then put it back together? I suppose it would also be a good time to add some superlume while you have it apart.

I think patience is the most important thing. There are not too many high quality, highly accurate reps for sale off the shelf. I think you are definitely looking for the one of the custom watches your refer to in your opening thread or a one-of-a-kind modded watch that occasionally gets sold in the for sale section. The other option is to determine what you want the end watch to consist of and start aquiring parts (Jimmyzfu, Palps, etc), and assemble or have it assembled for you. I have decided to go the latter route. Unfortunatley, some of the parts are hard to get and it is a waiting game (hence the need for patience). I think there are some special parts projects that you are well aware of that have been discussed recently. If and when these parts are finally made, they will probably fall into the Jimmysfu/Palp catagory as far as desireability (good thing to buy extras). If you collect the high quality parts long enough, you'll eventually end up with the ones you need (or be able to trade some of the ones you have for the ones you need). For example - I've been holding on to a DW Daytona case for a little while now. The way they are selling on ebay, I should be able to double or triple my money. In the mean time, buy a quality non-branded or fantasy (ie Marina Militare) watch to hold you over. This way, you want have an original to compare it to, and won't be annoyed by the differences. Or for that matter, if you've got the money, buy a second hand genuine version of what you want. You can always sell it for close to what you have in it (if not more), and use it as guidance when constructing your "Ultimate Rep". Good Luck, B

It all depends. The last place I worked employed approximately 50 people. There were 7 Rolexes and 1 Patek. My stainless steel sub was the cheapest of the group.

I've got one. Its a nice watch. However, it is a little small after wearing a 44mm PAM.

I believe Davidsen sells the whole watch, but I'm not sure if he sells the individual dials. Also not sure if they would fit a normal case. Was he the dealer you contacted?
