  1. At least it doesn't have that damned crooked "S" in submariner like the NOOB and all the other NOOB based reps.
  2. Opps, no that is wrong. When the date changed today I noticed that is the same. Just "2" and "21" seem to be in a different font. Still a great watch and Trusty is great to deal with.
  3. Oh yeah, forget this. Mine is a little different that the one he reviewed. The date numberals on mine are in a different font, more like an original. The "2"s for example on mine are flatter and wider. And yes, it is a black date wheel just as the originals.
  4. After reading By-tor's review of the Omega GMT (black dial and Speedmaster style band) with the asian movement, I thought that I would give one a shot. My only reservation was the worry that the crystal would not look right. In some of the pics in his review the edges looked too rounded which looked like it would make the markers look distorted from an angle view. Someone posted a comment regarding this and he said that the pics didn't do the watch justice. He is 100% correct. The pictures truely don't show what a fine rep this is. I see no marker distortion at any angle. This is one beautiful watch. I'd say the best rep. that I own (visually that is-still has asian movement-good luck). In my opinion it is almost perfect to the naked eye. The only thing that I am not totally pleased with is the lettering on the clasp. It is barely etched. I believe that it may even disappear with rough wear. I plan to replace the band with an original GMT band anyway. Other than that it is one of the best deals around. I purchased mine from Trusty and received it in about a week. My bezel alignment is close, not even enough to bother with. The dial waves and lettering are crisp and clean. There is no watch that feels as good on the wrist as a Seamaster. I owned an original Bond watch once and this watch feels just as good on the the wrist. I'd post pics but my camera is a dinosaur. Here's a link to the original review: By-tor's review
  5. A 4th generation PO is what you need to ask for. If you are not clear on who sells it, ask them to be sure. Make sure it is a 4th gen if you want a 42.5mm. See the dealer section here in the forum. I've dealt with Wo-mart, Trusty and Brand9avenue personally and I have been very satisfied with all of their sales and service. Here's the down side. A 4th gen. 42.5mm PO is not the greatest if your very picky. Wrong fonts on some of the dial lettering as well as some of the lettering being too small. The screw down crown is a little troublesome on some. The clasp isn't very accurate, it's almost flat. The divers extension hardly ever holds. I know I'm being critical, but I was not satisfied with the 42.5mm PO I had. I know others have had the same concerns because I have read them here. Mine had a few other problems so my dealer swapped it out for a 45mm PO. What a relief. It is a far superior watch to me.....just my opinions.
  6. Ok, I jumped on the band wagon and bought an Ocean Planet (4th gen). I loved it at first, but the longer I have it, the more problems I see with it. Namely the ridiculous looking "nearly flat" clasp. The divers extension is total junk and the coating on the crystal is pretty cheesy when compaired to the real deal. Everything else is ok and I do like it even though it has faults, I just believe any "Omega" person would spot it as a fake instantly. Not quite the "better than any Rolex Submariner rep" I expected. I love the SMP (more so that the PO) but the fact that the bracelet has screws is a total turn off, instant giveaway. Does anybody have any thoughts on the Seamaster GMT SS (2004 style with the Speedmaster style bracelet)? My thoughts are that if the reps are quality, this should be a passable rep. No fake He valve to give it away. Maybe no screws? Does anybody know if the Speedmaster style bracelet is correct? I really love Omegas but the $$$ are getting out of hand for a gen. Just looking for thoughts on a better rep.
  7. If you post pics, please post a wrist pic. I love the watch but just can't picture it (as in how big does it look). Great watch though. I personally love winders. I stared at one on my computer at work quite a long time today. Very nice.
  8. Well, for me its restoring and collecting old toy trucks (mainly Smith-Miller brand), old drag cars ('64 Mercury Cyclone and '64 Ford Thunderbolt), Mustangs ('68 Mustang Fastback) and weiner dogs. <img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/predfan2001/P1010020-2.jpg"><p><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/predfan2001/P1010019.jpg"><p><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/predfan2001/P1010017.jpg"><p><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/predfan2001/64_THUNDERBOLT-64_DODGE-1.jpg"><p><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/predfan2001/936682845_l.jpg"><p><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/predfan2001/541170412_l.jpg"><p><img src="http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m58/predfan2001/10001437_l.jpg"><p>
  9. Ok, (I hate to ask) but I have found a new "vintage" Rolex rep. the I am in love with. It is the Steve McQueen Explorer. I'd love to dull and scratch up this watch a bit to give it character. My first car was a green 68 Mustang fastback just like in the Steve McQueen movie Bullitt, and I still have it in my garage, and I have never driven it....that's another story. But this watch fits, is it a good rep. or cheesy?: http://www.wo-mart.com/product_info.php?cP...;products_id=40
  10. Odds are that at some point you will scratch your bezel insert. Fortunatly they only cost about $30 bucks...but here's my thoughts. If your are thinking of purchasing a Planet Ocean, consider the model that has the orange numerals. That way you can alternate insert colors (black or orange) for a change if you so desire. Just my thoughts.
  11. Ok, I appreciate the input. I feel nieve since I can't spot the poor qualities of a rep. since I once owned a genuine. I just never paid that much attension to the details and had never compaired a genuine to a replica. I'm still learning here and at this point, I have to ask questions. After reading your comments, I'm "kind of" ruling out the vintage models. I understand that alot of the nodate Subs are probably older versions and not that accurate. I agree that the older vintage model (with the riveted band) is too "yellowed". I still like the one I posted as a link in the original post. Maybe it wouldn't look that bad with cg mods and a little pearl work??? Or is this newer sytle nodate a decent rep. from Trustys site: http://www.ttwristwatch.com/index.php?main...products_id=601 Granted it is not an older style nodate like I want, but I really want a "non-chrono" nodate. At this point in my life (kids and all), a genuine just isn't in the budget but I really miss the one I had.
  12. You guys have more experience with the rep world than me...I just got my first rep yesterday (an Omega PO 42.5mm). I am getting ready to order a Rolex rep and I really want a nodate model. Many of you have suggested different ETA and non-ETA date model subs to me, but I am set on a nodate. Preferably a plexi crystal 5512 or 5513 style. Do you guys have any suggestions? Here's my fav so far..... http://brand9avenue.com/catalog/product_in...dc5e4c0d52bb5bc Please let me know. I don't want to buy one like this and then everybody here tell me that it is a overpriced-poor quality rep. Vintage is the main thing for me, but an ETA no date sub is ok if the other styles aren't that good of a rep.
  13. Update on the PO. I was out in direct sunlight today and guess what? The crystal has a tiny chip on the inside. It's very small and right over the 3 oclock marker so it is very hard to see. But you know how it goes, everytime I look down I'll see that and the band gap (which really isn't that bad). I still like it but can't make up my mind what to try next. A SMP or a Rolex sub nodate. Hmmm. Oh yeah, I sized the band myself with no problem. Granted I can't do anything with a movement, but I have worked on and built many watches so I'm not a total novice. I used some small nails and my rubber lined vise. Nothing to it (just don't drop the band bushing).
  14. If you want a jubilee band, go with a GMT. A GMT with a black dial and bezel looks great with a jubilee band in my opinion. A sub should never have anything but the original oyster or a nato strap. Subs never came with jubilee bands as far as I know. Heck I even perfer oysters on a ss Datejust.
  15. After reading many reviews here, I couldn't wait to order an Omega Planet Ocean. The website I ordered it from confused me a little. Their 42.5mm version was actually about $40.00 more than the 45mm Ultimate and stated it was the best PO rep. ever. Based on that and the price, I assumed it was a newer model, newer than a 4th generation. I had a Breitling Hercules once that I HATED because it was so big so I chose the 42.5mm PO-all black. Since ordering it I have read up a little more and asked a few questions here. And just as I figured, it came in today and it is a 4th gen. It is absolutely beautiful (except I keep looking at the gap in the bracelet-maybe I'll get a strap when they come out) but I now wish that I had ordered the Ultimate. It doesn't seem quite as large as the Bond model pro I used to have. Maybe it's just me but even though it is a 42.5mm, I was expecting it to be a little larger. My point is this, if there are any of you that haven't already got a PO and are thinking about getting one, get the Ultimate unless you have a very small wrist.
  16. Geez pug you had me a little concerned about the magnets but I received the watch today and they had taken everything out of the speakers. It's actually a pretty slick way to ship the watch. I must say the watch doesn't satisfy me 100% though...I'll post why in the Omega section.
  17. I hope you guys didn't think was a stupid post. I really wanted to hear your opinions. I can tell you (as a newbie to the replica world and previous genuine owner) that I had no idea replicas had come this far. I had no idea there were vintage models now and was suprised to see a few of the models available. A Sub date model has alway been the one I pinned as a fake when I see it. That is probably part of the reason I like the nodate models as well as I do. I can say that if I wanted to wear a replica in my area that I wanted perceived as the real thing (we do right?), it would be a vintage GMT (not a pepsi) with a jubilee band or a vintage Sub. Given the quality of reps these days like a MBW, I don't think that I could justify spending the $$ for a gennie as a daily worn watch. As you may have read in one of my other posts, I smashed a Sub. I was wearing once and maybe I'm a little gun shy. I'm feeling hooked on reps. I have an Omega PO on the way and my next purchase will most likely be a nodate Sub., I've always wanted a genuine old Sub with yellowed markers. I think it gives character to the watch, now I can get a rep for a fraction of the cost. I've owned many watches over the years and I honesty feel that I have had more reliability from an ETA movement than any other. Granted I usually bought used Rolexes, but I usually had to get them worked on. Never an ETA.
  18. Is there a TTK website or is he more like an insider here?
  19. Thanks. I read that review but I'm still unclear. What does ttk stand for? Is that an abbreviation of the mfg. or seller? Is this just the standard asian movt watch avail. on most any replica site? Forgive my lack of knowledge regarding this. I'm trying
  20. I guess that's why no more people put together a Tudor Sub rep. If you bought a rep. Sub, original Tudor dial and upgrades you'd be almost as much as the real thing. You know, several years back I bought an early 60s Rolex Oyster Perpetual that confused alot of people. It had a dark brown dial that faded to gold towards the center. Some people thought it may have just faded over time, some thought it was made that way but had never seen a dial like it. But the whole time I had it, people kept telling me that I could get the dial refinished in any color I wanted. And it was fairly cheap to do. If that can be done, why can't somebody (with the ability) just disassemble a rep and refinish the dial. I've seen the opposite enough on eBay (you know, Tudors with refinished dials to look like a rollie).
  21. I've run across a few pics here of Subs being redialed to look like a Tudor. From the best I can tell reading a few threads, nobody offers one. Dang it. I'd love to have one. Has anybody seen a source. If not, what are the options. What about starting with a nodate sub and having someone refinishing the dial.
  22. Ok, I'll admit this replica stuff is all new to me but several of you have recommended a "Noobmariner" as a starter Sub. I'm not really sure what a Noob is. I looked on several sites and I'm still lost. I've been reading threads and I'm still not real clear on this. Thanks in advance
