  1. It would be interesting to know how many orders Silix has had for the new line. I'd guess most of the orders have been by members here. There darned thread has been going on forever and I've already placed my order. If the rep makers were listening, I'd like to let them know to come out with a few "odd" vintage models. I know that if somebody introduced a vintage nodate Tudor Sub., there would be tons of orders from here alone. Maybe even an Omega 300 diving watch. The possibilities are endless.
  2. I actually thought getting a 5517 (since the dial looks pretty accurate) and attempting to remove the "T" very carefully. If that was successful I would then swap the movement into a standard vintage rep case with an oyster band and install a new set of Mercedes style Sub hands. Viola, a 5513. Just kind of pricey but what are the options. A MBW 5513s dial is a little too yellow in my opinion. If I went that route the vintage case would require cg mods and a gen tube/crown. Sounds pretty drastic I know, but I'm running out of options.
  3. There are no spring bars. On the 5517 they are "soldered" in place so a NATO is the only option. I just think the 5517 is one of the better (and more accurate) looking mid line ETA reps. Of course many people here will preach to buy a MBW for quality, I have hesitations about spending that much on a rep till I really know which one I want. Right know I feel it would be a 1665 or a 1680. I am excited about the new Silix models even though the bezel is wrong. I figure in time the guys here that mod will let us know how to correct that. I do know that about $200 will get you the correct style bezel, wheather it will fit or not is another question. I have the ROL223 on the way along with a riveted band. Can't wait to get it! I don't really expect to pull off wearing a rep that represents a $10000+ gen, I'm just a fan of Rolex and I will never be able to afford a gen "Bond". I have owned a gen 5513 and I kick myself everyday for getting rid of it years ago. At the time I considered that a "Bond" because of the Roger Moore era of 007 movies.
  4. Oh, since I've got all of these old Mustang memories going on right now. Fear not because I did end up with a Stang as my first "driveable" car. Here's my old high school ride.
  5. Don't worry, we all miss things from time to time. I ordered a 5517 thinking I was going to put an oyster band on it....duh. I knew better but got ahead of myself. Still wanting a vintage nodate 5512 or 5513
  6. The 16600 has a HE valve in the side. That makes it a Sea-Dweller case only. And it wouldn't be cheap. The "perfect" SD lists for $328.00 usd. The one I'd like to do is mod a Noob into a modern nodate if I had a 27mm dial that was accurate. I just love the nodates.
  7. No, that's just my crappy old camera. 1.3 mega pixel.....hells yeah! It still works and I just can't bring myself to replace it since I paid over $400.00 back in the day. It's a classic! But really, I do want to get started on this car. It's a 1968 Mustang my dad bought for me in 1977. Got it on my 10th birthday and it was to be my first car. We got started but never finished. It has all of the original Shelby fiberglass and even the roll bar. We figured somebody wrecked a Shelby and put all the parts on this fastback. The car is solid and under 40,000 miles. It's been inside since 1977. I'm just waiting to get my kids paid off (lol) then I'll get started. Now I have to make up my mind. Replica Shelby or replica Eleanor. Maybe "Bullitt"?
  8. I've never even really considered purchasing a Sea-Dweller, I just like Submariners better. This watch was actually the result of a deal gone bad. I've been looking for a 5512 or a 5513 for months but it's just never worked out. It seems the vintage models must be out of production because nobody has them. I ordered a 5513 from Trustytime without making sure it was available. Turned out it wasn't so Andrew emailed me and asked if I wanted a refund. I said no, I'll just pick something else. Lord only knows why, but the next email I got from him he offered me a "perfect" Sea-Dweller for the $$ I had already paided him for the out of stock watch (btw...there is quite a bit of $$ difference between the two, that's just the kind of guy Andrew is...A+) . I said ok since I don't have a 16600. It just arrived today and I am very pleased. The rehaut is deep and the cgs look good. I like the way the thicker back sits the watch up higher on the wrist. Needless to say, my first MBW purchase will most likely be a 1665. Thanks Andrew!
  9. Went ahead and ordered a green NATO after much thought. I just couldn't picture what it would look like on a 5517 then I found this pic here under collection photos. Now I can't wait for the watch and the strap to get here.
  10. I bought a N.O.S. WWII military watch off of eBay a few years back. The watch was absolutely stunning in the pics but the seller didn't mention size. I assumed it was around the size of an Airking. WRONG! It looked like a little kids watch. I don't even think it was 30mm. Yes it was very nice, but I relisted it and resold it immediately. My personal taste for size is anywhere between a Submariner and a UPO. I'd love an Omega Railmaster but I'm affaid it would be too big.
  11. Here's the first one I tried. I bleached the insert on the old Sandoz to see how it would look. I didn't even remove it. I just put a little bleach in a small cup and set the watch in face down (This one has a glass crystal, I wouldn't suggest placing a plexi in bleach). This one only took about an hour.
  12. I just got this in the mail. Yes, mail on a Sunday from USPS. Anyway this is Andrew's (Trustytime) latest and greatest Sea-Dweller. I'm not really into Sea-Dwellers but he made me a great deal because I had ordered a watch from his website that was out of stock. As I said, I'm not into Sea-Dwellers but this one looks pretty good to me. The rehaut is deep and the cgs look nice. The bezel is thicker than my Subs and looks accurate from a profile. I can't believe how smooth the second hand is. No complaints, very nice!!
  13. Maybe Chip can Overhaul my old Stang
  14. I'm a little put out with reps at the moment. Two unresolved problems with rep dealers that have been going on for way too long. I'll be wearing my first "big" watch. A Chase Durer Bomber Command Chronograph with the green carbon fiber dial. It's as big and heavy as a 4th gen PO.
  15. A friend in need is a friend indeed (....lol) so you'll get first shot if I choose to sell it.
  16. I'm still waiting on my 5517 to come in but I really don't like that 2 tone strap. I looked on eBay and and saw several color options. I personally would like a tan but I don't see one so my second choice is olive green. Just wondering what your opinions are. Please post pics if you have any to help me make up my mind. Thanks!
  17. I figured out what was going on. Evidently they misplaced the order and payment info. for the 5517 Submariner and they thought the payment I sent them for the new vintage Sub. was towards the original order. I guess they misread the item numbers because they are similar.
  18. I'm not sure what's going on now. Silix told me these watches were going to be $86.00 shipped. I paid as instructed and now I get an email saying I owe them another $82.00 to get the watch. What's up with that? Did the price go up?
  19. I'm still waiting on mine. I gave up on finding a vintage nodate Sub (everybody is out of stock) so I ordered a 5517 from Silix. Then they advised me that these were available so I went with this one in addition to the 5517. I think this is like a 6538 (other than the band and bezel) ?:
  20. Yeah, you're right. Seat belts were optional then. I guess the real reason this hits home for me is we just sold my mom's 56 Vette. After seeing this I'd be scared to death to drive it.
  21. Here's a couple of pics of an auto accident that occured here in my town. A classic 1959 Corvette hit a Jeep Wrangler head on. The driver of the Jeep had her seat belt on and walked away with no injuries. The Corvette had no seat belts and the driver received major trauma to his lower body. He lived but is in pretty bad shape I hear. The pics speak for themselves:
  22. Still wearing this old thing because I've been waiting on a shipment from Silix and Trustytime...is a month normal? It's never taken this long
  23. That's the way I like'm! Very nice.
  24. This site may have been posted here before. I ran across it looking for some pics of genuine 5517s. I love looking at vintage Rolex watches so I've spent quite a bit of time on this site. Vintage Rolex Gallery
