  1. Maybe I'm just getting lucky, but so far none of the watches I've purchased from Silix have had any problems. I had previously purchased from Trustytime and over half of the watches I bought had problems. One interesting thing I noticed with Silix's Subs, so far I have bought 5 various styles and not one has the same bezel. They all are different even though the cases are the same. The cool thing is that one of the last ones has a bezel that has the correct style teeth for a 5512/5513. No complaints with Silix. Good product....great price
  2. Nice collection so far (as I'm sure you've been bitten by the bug and more are to come). I've been thinking about ordering that Datejust because I've heard it's one of the few sold still that come with a plexi crystal. Does your have a plexi crystal? It doesn't appear to be in the pics.
  3. I feel like something a little smaller so I'll give my UPO a rest and strap on the 5517 Submariner.
  4. Hmmm....I guess my vote would actually be for your Fiddy and a Bloody Mary with the steak (medium well of course).
  5. A few shots of various watches I own with NATO straps.
  6. 'Cause green is my favorite color! And I like the military look. Here was my first NATO that I fell in love with:
  7. Just to mix things up a bit, I took the 22mm NATO strap off of my Hamilton Khaki XL and tried it on my UPO. It looks and feels better than I thought it would. It feels lighter and doesn't flop around on my wrist as much. I've been wanting a rubber strap, but I keep forgetting to get one when I place an order with Silix.
  8. Just remembered that my Hamilton Khaki had a 22mm NATO so I thought I'd try it on my UPO.
  9. Most users ever online was 294 on Jan 23 2007, 07:53 PM Lets break that record! It's the least we can do for all of those who are gone.
  10. Great. I was just getting ready to order one and now I have to worry about a screwed up looking date wheel. Anybody know what collectors sell a noob with thin fonts?
  11. I've got 2 watches I never wear (a modern Seadweller and an Omega GMT) so as soon as I can get my VIP membership, I'm going to post them for sale along with a few this and thats. Then I'm going order the parts I need to build a Submariner 5513 replica.
  12. A 5513 is the real Bond watch. It's simple why, Roger Moore was the best Bond
  13. You just can't go wrong with a 5517 in my opinion. If you get a good strap, it feels like you don't even have a watch on. One of the most comfortable combinations I have ever worn. I wear mine every weekend (I wear my Omega GMT to work most of the time). I actaully just ordered a second one to do a few different mods on.
  14. I'm sure most of you have seen the new asian movement Subs in a 5517 style case on a NATO strap that many of our collectors sell. The watches sell for under $100 USD and I've even thought about a Cartier or Tiffany & Co. just for the dial to use in a 1680. The funny thing is that the 5517 military version (which is a nodate) reads "Oyster Perpetual Date". An Oyster Perpetual Date with no date...Nice! LOL
  15. My advise......go to the nearest lake. Take that dial and fling it and see how many skips you can get out of it. Go home and find a 5512 or 5513 dial and get started on a "real" vintage project. Ok...just kidding. Cool start (even though I like nodates better.......especially 5517s)
  16. That looks alot like the riveted band I received from Silix when I ordered my vintage Sub. I have several riveted bands and so far I've seen 2 styles. When sizing the one from Silix, I found that when I removed the screw (the reps have tiny screws in the last links instead of rivets to make them easy to size), the link is one piece. So the screws just come out like a modern band for sizing. The down side is these screws are very soft and round off easily. The other style (which comes on Trustys vintage models) appears more accurate to me. When you remove the screw to size the band, the link comes apart. The screw goes into a tube with a rivet head on the end. The link and side pieces are seperate. I've sized these several times and had no issues with the screws rounding off.
  17. I'm thrilled with mine. I studied the watch pretty well before I ordered it and knew its faults in advance. The biggest disappointment was the lugholes being so far in the a band could not easily swapped (I installed a riveted band and I also have a skunk NATO). I knew the bezel was totally off, but for the price I have no complaints. Mine keeps time well and the crown screws down nice and smooth. I bought mine mainly as a "rep keep-sake". Plus I am a James Bond fan and I guess this is the closest representation we can get of one of his early Subs. I really wouldn't wear this watch out and about since the gen is mega $$$$. It is a very nice watch for the money. I really wish more people here would post pics of their "no gc Sub reps" (I guess you can't call it a Silix rep since everybody has them now). I have already seen some vintaged one posted in other areas. I'm sure everyone would love to se more.....maybe in this post????
  18. I feel I may have been fooled by reps in the past. There is a guy that frequents where I work that is always wearing a different Rolex or Omega. I would never bust him out (out of respect) but I have tried to get a better look at his watches, but it's hard to zone in on a watch when someone is wearing one in public. Not like us here looking at pics. Knowing what I know now, he is wearing all of the typical reps. Omega SMP, Sub, Sea-Dweller, Datejust..... Heck, he may be a member here!
  19. Oh by the way, some of you may have seen my post in the Rolex section where I changed the dial in my "Ultimate" Submariner from Trustytime. This watch retails for $488.00 because it is waterproofed and such. None of the seals had ever had any form of lube on them. Makes you wonder about all of that waterproofing http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=46456
  20. When I ordered my Silix Sub, I went ahead and ordered one of their vintage style riveted bands. I thought it would be a simple swap out but, boy was I wrong. When mine arrived I removed the modern style oyster band that came on the watch. When I did remove it, the springbars fell apart and they were all bent up. I thought I had bent them but it turns out the lugholes are drilled too far inward so who ever installed the band had bent them. I quit and installed a NATO strap: Not being one to give up, I gave it another shot tonight. This time I bent the new springbars slightly on the ends. I used 2 pairs of pliers and put a slight angle at the ends. I made sure the ends of the springbars would still spring out. I then installed the band and used a small screwdriver to guide the ends to the holes. I'm amazed but this took all of 10 minutes and the band is secure:
  21. I got the used dial from Suissetime. The cool thing is that it fit in a replica case. I figure this one will make some people scratch their heads
