  1. Here's the UFO video from Haiti. I'm sure it's a fake, but it's pretty cool. Haiti UFOs Haiti UFOs II
  2. Long ago..before I ran across the whole replica world, I used to go to the flea market. Buy old mechanical watches and take them apart and put them back together. Sometimes I would take the parts of 2 or 3 watches and make one. Using the best parts. Today I ran across my first "frankenwatch". I've had it put away because I moved to a new house a few years back. It is one of my favorites because it is so dependable and accurate. It started as an old Waltham mechanical but the case was total crap. Almost all of the chrome had popped off of the brass case but the watch functioned well. I found a Gruen Precision that had a stainless case so I swapped the Waltham movement into the Gruen case. It's been flawless since. I've always been very proud of this watch and it means alot to me. Check it out:
  3. I really enjoy this forum thus I spend several hours a week sitting in front of my desktop reading the posts. (and at my office...shhhh) Where do I do this from? My bonus room....maybe you would call it my hobby room. I do all of my eBay transactions here (I sell vintage toys). Here's a few pics:
  4. Spend $150-$200 on a Sandoz Sub and put the rest in your pocket. Mine never leaked and trust me...I tested it. Then again, a rep may be just as good?????
  5. I was going though all of my oyster bands and parts and found an old "folded" oyster band that was on my Datejust when I bought it. Haven't I seen here that Rolex used that stytle band on some 60s vintage Submariners or Sea-Dwellers? Thought that if they did, it may be cool on a vintage SD.
  6. Still got this one strapped on. If you've never tried a NATO, you need to give one a shot.
  7. On a regular day: On a good day: But never without this:
  8. Here's my 2 choices. The first is not a Datejust, but it is such an odd watch it would easily pass as a gen to most. The second is claimed to be one of the few avail. that still has a plexi crystal (yes I like the older stuff). See what you think: 1. Silix Date Model 2. Andrew's Datejust From my personal experience, a Datejust is fine if your wrist is 7" or under. My wrist is 7 1/2" but my Datejust still looks ok. If you're looking for tt..sorry I'm completely off the mark. I like stainless!
  9. Well I'm about done with Rollies for now (that is unless I can find a 5512 or 5513). I think my next purchase will be an Omega "Bond" SMP or a Railmaster. I've thought about a Panerai but I know nothing about them. I did see a pic of one I liked on someones avatar once. It had a brown dial, I think people may call it a tobacco dial?? Anyway, I'd kinda hate to get started on something new (brand wise).
  10. I got mine a week ago. As I said in a prior post, the watch is beautiful. Granted the bezel is wrong, but I was really amazed. The quality seems great. What a value. The second hand is as smooth as an ETA. The crown screws in well. So far it keeps good time. The only draw back has been the lug holes. They are placed too far in the lugs. The first thing I wanted to do with mine was install a riveted band. When I removed the "modern style" oyster that came on the watch, I found that the spring bars had been bent to get the band on. Not just a little, almost at a 45 degree angle. I have tons of oyster bands and end links but nothing worked. You could grind the end links to place the spring bars in more but the appearance suffers and if you use a riveted band, the rivets hit the lugs. I think that when I am feeling brave, I'll attempt to drill new lug holes like I had to do on my Omega GMT to install a gen SMP band. For now I just have a "Bond" skunk NATO on it which probably fits the appearance of the watch better, but I like an oyster more.
  11. In just a few months I have ended up with 8 reps. That's not counting all the screwed up ones I sent back Frt to back: Asian Omega GMT ETA Ultimate Planet Ocean "Perfect" Sea-Dweller from Andrew "Ultimate" Submariner from Andrew Asian Omega GMT with a gen. band (my fav) Vintage 5517 on olive NATO strap Vintage 5510 from Silix on Bond strap Asian "Steve Mcqueen" Explorer II (it worked one day before it quit-now it's my guinea pig for mods)
  12. Planet Ocean any day. The issue with most of Andrew's Subs, SD and YM is the inaccurate rehaut. Way too conical. I have an Ultimate from Andrew and I was really disappointed in the rehaut. The watch is very reliable and the dial is great. I've even thought about getting a Noobmariner or Beginmariner and swapping my movement into if it would work. (btw, if anybody knows if this would work please let me know)
  13. Both straps have found homes for now. The olive one is on my 5517 (which is in process of a few mods) and the Bond strap is on the Silix vintage.
  14. Dang it! I've been trying to get a band on it all afternoon. It just will not work. It doesn't really look like enough room to drill new lug holes. Does anybody know if this is a common problem or just mine. I guess they bent the spring bars with a screwdriver when installing the band. I noticed that one side of the original spring bars is completely flat like it was pryed on really hard.
  15. Ok, mine just came in today. I couldn't wait to open the package. When I did...WOW! It may not be completely accurate but it is beautiful. The time set and the crown screwed in just as they should. The markers are vintage looking, but not too yellow (what a change). I also ordered a riveted band to replace the modern style oyster that comes on this watch. When I got home, I removed the band and the first spring bar was bent up bad. I thought..whooopps. I carefully removed the second one and it was the same way. Then I started to install the riveted band and found out why the original spring bars were bent at a 45 degree angle on the ends. The lug holes are in way to far in the case. I even tried 3 more bands and end links and still nothing fit. I even tried the original "bent" springbars that came with the watch but the ends came out when I tried to reinstall them. I just installed a NATO (G-10) for now. Don't get me wrong, I love this watch....just FYI. Think before you remove your band on one of these. Here's some pics:
  16. GMT today Then the beater for camping and rafting this weekend
  17. Very nice Looks like the case is eating the crown.
  18. I didn't think I would like a NATO strap but it feels really good. It's so comfortable it almost feels like I don't have a watch on. Greatful that I found Pugwash's how to site about NATOs. Pugwash's NATO how-to site I had no idea why the strap was that long, I was getting ready to trim it off. I'm also glad I found a source here in the states. I ordered it from eBay seller "watchbandgirl" and it was here in 48 hrs. It was a little higher than most but I didn't have to wait for it to come from Hong Kong and shipping was free. Plus it is a really nice strap.
  19. Other than I put the band on backwards. Opps!
  20. The strap just got here but still no 5517. Just had to try it out:
  21. Just got my olive NATO strap in that I ordered off of eBay. The 5517 is still not in but I had to try it out on one of my old Subs.
