  1. you're not the only one kurt. in november, my fully modded iwc bp was lost in the mail on it's way back from vac. now i have a genuine omega planet ocean that has vanished on it's way to me ... been over a month now. vac has graciously offered to do the work again for free but between these two deals, i'm out around $2,000! not a good way to end the year. i feel your pain bro.
  2. welcome to the madness. your first post is a breath of fresh air around here. all the best!
  3. thanks ubi. from searching the web, i figured around 1970. it would be nice to really narrow it down but this is an excellent starting point!
  4. congratulations and welcome to the board! the big pilot is one of my favorites.
  5. hello rgw. last year my mother in law brought over a leather pouch that's been in her safe deposit box for years. it was left to her by her late father who passed away in 1990. inside was a "piece of eight" coin, three pocket watches and two non working watches. the first watch was by the brand orient and was previously owned by sean connery. the second watch (and what i am most interested in) was the tudor pictured below. i had a few watches going to the zigmeister over the holidays so i included this tudor to see if it could be fixed. to my delight, he was successful! he said the watch had probably never been serviced as the inside was dried up and the o'rings were useless. in fact, he had to freeze the caseback with nitrogen just to get it open. lol. the main problem was a loose cannon pin which was causing the hands not to move. anyway, i am hoping to find out more about this particular watch ... when it was produced etc. it's a 38mm tudor oyster prince date + day with grey dial (although it looks blue in the pictures). the case reference number is 7017/0 and the serial number is 682285. it is the non-quickset date + day movement and is currently on a cheap leather replacement strap and buckle. i'm going to start digging through some old photographs to see if i can find any pictures of my wife's grandfather wearing it. that way i can find out if it was originally on a strap or bracelet ... i assume strap? any input would be appreciated and a big thank you to the zigmeister again, for bringing this family heirloom back to life. my mother in law is as pleased as i am! all the best.
  6. my dssd just back from a full service and lume by The Zigmeister (although this picture was taken before the service) ...
  7. happy new year guys! i'm just getting around to posting again. i wanted to let you all know that i had two of these ultimate's fully serviced by The Zigmeister over the holidays ... one for my father and one for myself. i'll try to post some pictures soon but the results are amazing as usual! The Zigmeister stated that the quality of the asian clone (which appears to be a seagull movement) is just ok and put together poorly. over oiled in places, dried out in others, out of adjustment, hairspring not concentric (not sure what that means?). he recommends ordering the eta after seeing the problems with mine. just a word from the wise for those that haven't pulled the trigger already. mine seems to be running flawlessly now but i guess only time will tell. all the best.
  8. i like this watch as well. but that gold colored plate on the side of the case is a deal breaker for me. once they fix that, i will take the plunge. great pics as always lani ... thanks for posting!
  9. happy anniversary ... great having you around!
  10. have you ever come across someones picture over the internet, but it didn't reveal their name? well i just did. so, i thought i'd start a thread where we can post these pictures. with the help of fellow members, hopefully we can put a name to these faces. i'll start things off with a link that was sent to me this morning ... does anyone know who this girl is? if so, please let me know. i need to get in touch with her.
  11. i think you're jumping the gun here. i've had positive transactions with peter in the past and am sure he'll come through for you. all the best.
  12. i knew i should have held off three years before joining. great job men!
  13. congratulations! it looks nice although the rose gold is still my favorite.
  14. i wanted to start a poll here but couldn't find the option? anyway, my thoughts are regarding the view new posts button located in the top right corner of each page. my suggestion to the admin is for this button to take you to the latest posts on the forums page, regardless of what page you are actually viewing. for example, if i've just sent a pm in messanger and now want to view the latest posts ... i first have to click forums, which brings me to the forums page with shoutbox etc., then i need to click view new posts to view the actual latest posts. with this improvement, instead of the button acting like a refresh button, we could all get to the information we want a little faster. this request may seem unnecessary, but i think it would be an easy and positive change. i would appreciate if everyone would express their thoughts below. even if it's a simple "agree" or "disagree". either way, thank you to the admin for all of their hard work and dedication to rwg. it does not go unnoticed and truley is a one of kind community. all the best!
  15. wow, looks amazing. i'm really impressed with the thick date font ... congratulations!
  16. you have to keep your eyes peeled but they do come up for sale from time to time. i found my oem gator (see below) on timezone last year for just under $200. here's one (no affiliation) that was listed earlier this month. the price is actually good considering, but more than i would pay for sure. good luck.
  17. looked like fun ... thanks for posting!
  18. thanks watchlover, i think i'll have a hard time parting with the 091. it was my first big purchase a few years back, and i absolutely love it! all the best. thanks stormtrooper4, the watch box is from rainer in germany. the quality and finish is top notch! thanks toadtorrent, my father enjoys the rep and gen hobby as well and is a hoarder like you. lol. everytime i visit him, i slim down his collection by a few pieces. expect some for sale in the early new year! happy holidays. thanks tech, please let me know what all you are doing to your rose gold? i don't want to miss out on anything. i'm going with a full movement service, c1 lume (is that accurate to the gen?) and installation of a cheif ar crystal that i got here thanks to rogerthat. do you have any other advice? thanks dluddy, i can't agree more. take care. thanks jeff g, will do. all the best. thanks neverworn, it seems that way but you know how it goes. lol. i'm looking forward to seeing what 2010 brings, as we all are. thanks mike, even twelve isn't a lot when you consider all the great models out there. please enjoy yours as well!
