  1. I see we're in agreement on your being judgmental, then. People wearing reps wearing a sign that says, "Hey look, I'm rich" would be retarded (and highly amusing). I have no idea whether they're posing or not. Nor do I care. We've all played dress-up (actors do it for a living), yet no-one is better than someone else just because they are wealthier. The pimp, drug-dealer, and the corrupt politician are all superior to the average working man, and the many unfortunates who have lost (or are about to lose) their home? Yes, it's a hobby, and fun, and some of us enjoy the modding aspect. However - just because some do not do what you do for your reason/s does not qualify them for being "looked down upon". Money does not equal superiority. That's all I'm saying, here. It's too bad that we've made a society that sees those who can afford multi-thousand-dollar watch owners as people to be looked up to. I believe that the indigenous American had a far more noble existence with no capital wealth, but with a healthy respect for the planet and its other life forms. I'm really not looking for a fight here, and if I've misunderstood your gist, I apologize. Watches, cars, women, music, the arts...we're all very fortunate to be in a position to enjoy them all at some level. The monetary system is crashing down around us, yet this is still the calm before the storm..before it all gets better! ◆ If we're to continue this, we should do it somewhere other than this "what we're driving" thread.
  2. Oooooooh! Who's a little judgmental, then? Who are you to (and why would you) look down upon anyone? Those are rhetorical questions, by the way.. I do wonder why a comment like this would be posted on a replica enthusiasts' site, though. You say you own several reps yourself, yet you judge others' reasons for doing the same? All your gens are Rolex.
  3. I once had a boss who used to say, "There are only two kinds of Jag owners: Rich ones drive new Jags, and poor ones drive old Jags". He himself was an arrogant fat bunt who drove Mercedes and owned nursing homes on the side..
  4. May I suggest consulting with a few independent Jag service ctrs? This is what I did to get an impartial opinion. They've no axe to grind.
  5. ..driving us 'round the twist - got it! Can we get back to the cars thing, now?!
  6. Now, that's antagonism! (..what do you mean, "great bum, but I didn't notice that tattoo before"? )
  7. My first "real" cars were two 2002 tii's - a '73 and a '75. Back then I had the hots for a 635L. My buddy had the Bavarian 'Batmobile' version with the 'wings'.
  8. Nice house! 'round here some call 'em UAV's..
  9. Of all my bikes, my only BMW (K-75) was my favorite all-rounder. Sweet ride, lad!
  10. rkdk: Are you on DK or UK? The Beemer is a RHD with UK plates, but all the rest are LHD! What year is the XJ8? I looked into these a couple of years ago, and the newer V8's are (among other things) more reliable than its V6 predecessor, but with the same MPG rating.
  11. My 2000 Saab 9-5 Aero 2.3 High Output Turbo My 1997 Saab 900 SE Turbo Coup
  12. Doesn't it, though?! -I've always had the devil of a time uploading/updating avatars, and I'd always fancied getting one of my animated ones up (if you'll forgive my unfortunate choice of words)...
  13. mmm... er, what? Magnum pie? Magpie? Amalgum pie? Amalfi??? Mmmm...pie!!!!! My fave.. Still - these buns are better eatin' any day of the week!
  14. does it come with different outfits...??!
  15. The doll has its own harem of Bond girls, too..
  16. I never had any joy with the hairdryer method. The windowsill sun-through-the-window method works a treat, in my experience. Most claim no issues with glue problems, but like I said - it's easily re-glue-able. Varied results have been had employing the complete bezel removal version. It seems like a lot of work to me, and can be tricky (if you can successfully remove it in the first place) to put it back on correctly aligned. Search the fora for this method and members' results.
  17. When the clasp on my SMP chrono crapped out recently, I asked Andrew what he suggested, and if he might have a replacement I could buy. He offered to (and subsequently sent) a complete bracelet and clasp at no charge. The big bonus surprise was that the new one came with pins instead of screws. Write to your supplier and explain what happened. If it's Andrew, we know you'll get a result.
  18. Ha-ha! Can't beat the tried and true 2531.80.00. Nothing they've done since will out-classic the original classic "Bond watch".
  19. Very good pics, there. Now, to address your insert fall-out question: I've not heard of this occurring on the SMP 300M, only on the chrono. My chrono had this issue, and after re-application three times, only to repeat its penchant for detachment, I finally cleaned it of old adhesive, and applied a few drops of 'Gorilla Glue'. It's been perfect ever since. Your watch's only obvious problem (which I'm surprised no-one of our anal-retentive members has pointed out thus far) is the usual mis-aligned insert. A small rotation following a heat treatment should do it. It's the only thing standing between you and a really close to spot-on rep. Notice how the insert markers are aligned with the 'peaks' of the bezel on the gen.
  20. I'd like to see that rep version of globe etching. Any shots?
  21. That is bad. Did you get it sorted in the end? *Apart from the pearl, this one's for a mid-size..
  22. This seems to be an option..? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=021
  23. You're partially right, fauxlex: The engraved globe was a later introduction, but they weren't too bothered about fitting them. Consequently, they used a lot of their existing stock case-backs even as globe versions were produced. Some non-globe adorned SMP's are newer than their etched brethren. When I shopped for a new-old-stock 2531, it was a must-have feature for me (and I scored a few months ago)! *The sea monster on mine is 'smooth-topped' and shiny, as opposed to rough like the close-up shot of yours, Anakin.
  24. Gen CL111-A It's the one with two movements - the digital movement (when activated by rotating the crown) shows through the black dial to display the date, and other functions: Stopwatch with lap timer, countdown timer, dual timezones (including the complete date in choices of format). There's also a backlight - a very cool green glow that shines through the dial, and a battery saver feature: when you're not using it for any length of time, it sits motionless, but when reactivates, it will automatically set itself to the current correct time and date.
  25. What's a "clone ETA"? I was under the impression that they're all ETA copies (as opposed to gen Swiss).
