  1. You jammy bastard! I agree with armin - that you'd better be posting some pics of you with that hottie..or even just of the hottie!
  2. I just scored a gen 2531 myself. $1,500 on ebay new
  3. A search on Kurtyu on ebay members brings up a member with a '0' rating, and no items for sale. Apparently in Russia, and a member for some years, but with no items currently listed. Could it be a seller with a slightly different name?
  4. Recommended insert: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...52BSI%26otn%3D3
  5. Very good review, there, thanks! To quote Kyle and/or Stan, "I learned something here today". As for your bracelet pins issue - if the SM links are like the SMP, the solid pins are sheathed in a collar that sits inside the middle part of the link, in the form of a tube of similar length. This makes for a snug fit. Maybe try adding a collar to one to see if it makes a difference. *WARNING: Omega parts are notoriously rip-off expensive, though. Congrats on the purchase, and try to lower your expectations of its timekeeping tolerances to within single digits of seconds lost/gained. I have a gen SMP, and even its chronometer rating is listed as, "within -4 to +6 seconds per day (99.99% accuracy)..". Without fiddling with it, out of the box it gains only 2 - 2.45 seconds per day, but I consider myself lucky. It's a good thing I don't live/run my calendar to such tight tolerances! If you really want the tightest "fit" in this area, fit it with a quartz movement.
  6. SMP I can't figure out this photo linking thing - it links to the wrong ones..sorry
  7. Awlrightee, then - I guess that's put me straight! Sounds like a lot of work, but I suppose it'll all be worth it in the end.
  8. I agree. No need to change the hands, being of the correct length and (likely strong) lume. Why the dial, though?
  9. True - so I (just recently) got myself a new-old-stock SMP gen. Yowzah! What more can I say?
  10. I emailed the tutorial link to my watch repair guy, and he informed me yesterday that he'd got it, but hadn't yet read it. I was returning the watch to him after three days because the replacement tube had stripped its thread after two uses.! Watch this space (well, not THIS space - the updates will be in another post)..!
  11. What a splendid job, sir. I am officially an envious shade of green!
  12. If I remember correctly, the "red" SMP sold by Josh is of the quartz version- the red Seamaster lettering being located in the lower half of the dial. I do believe this rep does not come with a quartz movement.
  13. Forgive me, Ianikai, but I just wanted to say something after reading your quote so many times: Street-speak spelling not withstanding, the difference is would be the correct form in this sentence. Only in a plural context would the differences are be appropriate. Thanks for playing.
  14. That is one misaligned bezel insert, sir.. Mine from Andrew arrived like that, too.
  15. The bezel (insert) is misaligned on all of the reps I've seen - even some of the genuine Omega inserts were misaligned on the pre-Co-Axial model chrono.
  16. 9 part? What am I missing? Why hasn't mine fallen off, yet?! I can't find nine parts no matter which way I count them..
  17. Thanks for this, takashi - I don't know how my repair-guy doesn't know this, and insists that it won't fit the Asian movement. I can't tackle a job like this anymore, as my eyesight is frustratingly limiting nowadays (even with glasses, magnifying glass, and a headlamp), so I'm dependent on my repair-man.. I'll try to get him to look at this article, but I'm not too hopeful at this point. He's supposed to be replacing the crown tube on my SMP chrono right now, so I'll ask him about the DW again when I call him today to see if it's done, yet.
  18. I believe they're all the same now, although at one time some came with the correct DW font.
  19. >I've tried several attempts of the current incarnation SMP from three (of our boards') dealers, and all were unacceptable to me, at least. >The crown prorudes so much that it digs into the back of my hand. I wear my watches a little loose, which allows for wrist heat expansion, and I just prefer it that way. >The bracelets now adjust with screws, not pins, but they are curved, and are really close to the gen. *The gen's use friction pins, anyway- not split pins as you will still find on reps. of some (other) watches. >The pearl is a known flaw, but a gen insert is available on fleabay for under $17. >The lume is a bit lacking, but that's so minor I probably shouldn't even mention it.. >Of course the HE valve placement is off, but that (for me) ranks right down there with the weak lume, and is really the only thing that can't be fixed. I now own the current SMP chrono, which I love, and as By-Tor will testify, is even now one of the best "out of the box" rep's one can buy. I've had mine for a little over a month, and the crown tube thread has stripped. I'm replacing the tube (well, my watch guy is), but the real kicker was when I found out that an ETA date-wheel won't fit the Asian 7750 movement fitted to this watch. Some people got lucky with a 'correct font' DW, but I believe they all now come with the "tell" feeble DW. *I keep reading on these boards of ETA DW's being fitted, but I've yet to learn how.. My choice would still be the chrono. It's not as bulky or heavy as it appears when worn, and it will get a lot of wrist time!
  20. That's a great watch, and with an equally great story to go along with it. I'm sure you'll enjoy if for many years to come. Congratulations! Now, I just have to know - how did you get an ETA DW to fit the Asian 7750? I got one with the font to make your skin crawl. It's a shame that one fly in the ointment really screws up the whole visual. I keep telling myself, "It looks fine. You can hardly tell.." but then I see yours or By-Tor's and I feel sick. That DW completes the perfect picture. My watch guy's told me that there's no way an ETA wheel will fit (he's in the middle of replacing the stripped tube for me right now, and I've only had it for a month or so)!

I'm with you, there. I finally decided to hunt down a 'new-in-the-box' 2531, and scored one last week! I love it to bits. I'd tried on four separate occasions a SMP rep, but they all had issues I couldn't live with: the last two would've been good, but the crown protruded so much that it stuck into the back of my hand. I'll try again if I can be sure of getting a good 'un..
  22. Duhuhude! That's the best looking rep of that watch I've ever seen! I gave up trying to find one that good: After buying four bad ones, I decided to hunt for a good used gen (after not finding any 'new old stock' anywhere). After a few weeks of TZ and ebay trawling daily I got lucky on fleabay: Last week a dealer had a new one in the box with all that goes with it, including a 2 year warranty! I put in the minimum bid (around what a mint used goes for) and prayed no-one would notice it but me. I'd stumbled on it, as it didn't come up in any searches. At 8:30 this morning it was mine, with no other bidder forcing me up to my max bid - I was the only one bidding on it! It'll be here tomorrow by overnight shipping, included with insurance in the 'free shipping' deal. I can't wait..
