  1. Best answer so far.
  2. Dumb question - would the serial number that was posted be the same for the white version or would it be a different one because of the colour of the face? Just doing some research now even though not planning to buy for a while. Thanks.
  3. I wouldn't be taking any leather - belt, shoes, watch strap - into water. Definitely not chlorinated water. Leaving chlorine in your hair can turn it green (if you have lighter hair). I don't think it will be very kind to your strap.
  4. That's why he's rich. lol But seriously, I see it all the time. My dad does pretty well. Upper middle class but not rich. Spends whatever money he has on things for our family e.g. if my mother wants to go to the grocery and buy Hagen Daaz (expensive where he lives) ice cream, she does. I have some distant family on the other hand who are stinking filthy rich but for them to spend 2 cents is like pulling teeth. Using the ice cream example, they'll buy some no-name brand that tastes like ass. Well maybe they like it, but it tastes like ass to me. My dad also has this friend who, while not filthy rich, is a multi-millionaire. They will often go to the market together in the morning where poor people will be selling vegetables, fruits, etc. My father often comes home and tells me stories with disbelief in his voice about how his friend will try to haggle with these poor people in order to save 25 cents. Nothing wrong with bargaining but do it on things that count e.g. buying a car or furniture, not to save 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000001% of your net worth. It's like having a yard sale and Bill Gates showing up and trying to get you to knock $2 off the old teddy bear you're selling for $5. And whenever I see, or hear about, these things I always have the same thought - maybe that's why they're rich...
  5. All about the priorities. Morons! PS I'm currently living at home with mom and dad myself. Gotta save some money while in school. Home cooking's also a huge plus. Mmmnnn!
  6. Of course they don't. I could very well be that guy. I like watches but I'm not fanatic about them. I certainly don't know all the intricacies and details of them all and owning one watch doesn't make anyone an expert on all watches by the same maker e.g. Rolex. A more accurate test would have been if he had the gen to your rep. Then he might be able to notice any subtle differences. But even then, maybe (more likely probably) not on one of the better reps. Most of the public, as long as the watch feels substantial and there're no obvious flaws such as a crooked marker, tilted pearl, etc., wouldn't have a clue. The biggest source of doubt would be whether they think you should own that watch. I refer you to the thread about "getting called out". Having said all of the above, it's still a nice feeling to "pass muster".
  7. Cheers to Richard for a kind gesture. That is what community is all about and it's very impressive that he did not even ask about reimbursement for the shipping. From a complete stranger no less.
  8. As was pointed out earlier, there are different versions of Loctite. There's permanent and semi-permanent. You want the latter. Just thought that was worth repeating. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loctite http://www.loctiteproducts.com
  9. We all probably know someone like that. I certainly do. But they are exceptions. And while we probably shouldn't assume it's just human nature to do so and, well, most times the assumption would be correct. Like tough guy above posted about the young Hip Hop artist (or insert celeb of choice), there are young people with lots of $ who don't look the part (old ones too) but they probably represent around 1% of all people. Most young people who look like they don't have money...don't...
  10. Wow, you're so cool.
  11. Awesome. Can't wait for them to rep this. lol
  12. He's a douche for doing that whether he knew or not. Like I've said before, either here or on RWI, he did not know and was bluffing. Be that as it may, he didn't see you in nice clothes. Still presumptive of him though especially given the casual environment. Not like you were at fine dining in your tank top and tracks. However, I wouldn't read too much into not being called out before. Most people wouldn't even notice and those that do likely wouldn't even care; certainly they wouldn't be so rude and classless to make a scene and call you out. You're on a forum full of watch freaks. People here care about watches and know them. Most people never have heard of Panerai, Breitling, etc. They know Rolex, Omega, Tag, Movado, Cartier, etc. The average individual thinks that it's just a watch on your wrist that maybe cost a couple hundred rather than a few thousand. Then there are people like myself. I like watches and know some of the expensive ones (surely the brand if not the specific models). If I was at that party, I might have looked at you and thought that your watch wasn't real but I'm not so crazy into watches that I'd approach you to talk about it - rep or gen. So for every one time someone gets called out, there are probably 50 where they might be sized up but nothing said. Yup, even at ADs where people think they've pulled on over. A smart AD would never try to embarrass a potential customer. Wear what you like. I'm of the camp that thinks you should have something on that you could reasonably afford but I wouldn't wear a watch that I didn't love just cause it fits my budget when something else I prefer doesn't. However, if I decide to sport an $80k watch, I'm going to have to expect that I may be called on it by someone who recognizes that that watch is way out of whack with everything else e.g. my car, clothes and house. If you do usually dress the part, etc. then wear your GT with pride and without worrying and that guy can go screw himself for being a presumptuous ass. Good luck to you. Again, it's my opinion that you're taking this way too badly when you want to go as far as to try and pretend it's a gen to someone opening the caseback. If it's going to affect you this much to be called on your rep, you're likely in for some more heartbreak and sorrow in the future. Realize that the guy was an ass and always will be an ass most likely and put it behind you. Be happy that you enjoy your watch. When it becomes about what other people think, you're always going to be on edge. I'm about 100% sure that that guy forgot about you around 2 seconds after he'd said his bit all proud of himself for trying to put you down. Yet you are continuing to dwell on it. You've got some good advice on how to handle it in the future so I hope that you will take it and be more confident next time. By the way, it shouldn't have to be said but IMO you've also had some pretty horrible advice (where I hope the posters were joking). Stooping to his level and being rude (there's nothing wrong with putting him in his place in a tactful manner though e.g. the comment about how you bought it for $3; showing how little you care for his opinion or even better, the one about how he shouldn't need to open the caseback to tell it's a rep and therefore sucks at his trade, thereby showing him up) or resorting to any kind of violence would make you even more of an ass than he is (to me anyway).
  13. Would you have tried to remove the caseback? I'm not sure what that means exactly but it sounded funny in my head.
  14. Props to you. I can barely hang on to my car keys much less those little ittie bitties.
  15. Crap, I better take that Ferrari sticker off my bus pass then.
  16. No seriously. Pugwash isn't kidding.
  17. That's precisely what he's trying to do. lmao He posted on here and RWI that some AD called him on his rep (which he handed over) and the guy tried opening the caseback (which was idiotic of him). I think someone needs to accept the reality of what a rep is and what it is not.
  18. Why not go to an AD and try them both on and see how the 45mm looks on you?
  19. Honest mistake. I nearly made it myself once when I was looking at buying the watch. I was originally planning on buying the black version (the legit one; not the fantasy) and went to an AD to look at it. Changed my mind when I saw the blue in person and ended up ordering that instead. So I agree that the blue is indeed the way to go.
  20. lmao, that was awesome. Well done!
  21. Why should that matter? My father has little interest in the stuff he sells but he still knows his product. Maybe the guy just doesn't like wearing a watch or didn't wear one that day. I know many people who don't care to wear a watch. Of course, if I were him, I'd be flashing something sweet to advertise for myself. My friend's father is a jeweller in Cali. When he goes out with his wife, she's a walking billboard for him and my friend says she does her best to display the pieces so that people will hopefully inquire about them. Honestly, I think you should just move on. It wasn't a fun experience no doubt but you really, really seem to be dwelling on it. You can't change the past.
  22. Two more years of rotations and 3-5 years of residency and I can buy all the reps I want. Wait, that's a looonnng time. *sobs* The rep business might be out of commission by then. Heh, it's not so bad. I can buy a little treat for myself here and there; just not at this moment. Plus, the old man (bless his heart) is gonna spring for a gen Omega (or whatever I want pretty much but I don't want to be greedy) when I grad but I'm thinking that I'd rather get a couple watches and get them serviced (so they'll last), modded, etc. rather than just one. Anyway, that's all OT so I'm done. Again, beautiful watch!! Wear it well and enjoy.
  23. Great pics and props on the French cuffs and cufflinks.
  24. Tell me about it.
  25. I know. I want. I want. Unfortunately, I can't afford. Still a poor student who just splurged on a gen watch for his mom (split with my sister) for her 50th. Treated myself to the Tag Link and now I have to wait a bit before I can buy some more reps. I have some cash saved but it would be irresponsible to spend it right now. Plus, have an engagement in my future. After 8 years, I think the gal deserves some commitment. So enjoy your VC Overseas doubly for me.
