  1. Is this gonna be another super expensive "super rep"?
  2. I don't think the prices asked are horrible. I wasn't around in the old days to know what the "going rate" was but it doesn't matter to me if the watch is second hand if it was [supposedly] worn only a few times. If it's still in good condition, I see no reason that it should be sold at 50% off. In any case, like with people who spend $500+ on "super reps", that's what the market will bear so there's no reason for the price to be lowered. I guess people post a higher price and only if it doesn't sell they will consider lowering it to move the product. Also, I do factor in shipping (as on eBay - ooh, great deal. Wait, shipping is $90. Hell no!) and lack of customs issues when looking at a used watch. As I said earlier regarding watches supposedly only worn a few times, I admit that I am very skeptical when I see something that the buyer said was bought 6 months ago and only worn 5 times. Especially when those are sometimes heavily modded e.g. a Davidsen PAM. Like there was a guy on RWI selling an UPO that was relumed with gen hands and a gen rubber strap that was "only worn a half dozen times". Nothing against this guy. He has good feedback, is a member in good standing, etc. and IS NOT a scammer as far as I am concerned. I'd buy from him with no hesitation. Maybe the watch is a recent purchase and he needs the money for something else (as he did state in his sale) but things like that give me pause. Why go through all that trouble and extra expense for something and then only wear it 6 times?
  3. Glad you both got your watches. Congrats!! @dvn: Your first pic's pretty blurry. Get a tripod. Luckily your second one is great. Looks like your crystal has some great AR on it (unless it's just the flash) cause I can see the dial as clear as day. Looks good although I'm not expert. I'm curious as to whether the numbers on the gen are polished like this rep or brushed like someone mentioned (chieftang?).
  4. I don't know. Let me check my Hotmail spam box. I've been getting a ton of those in the last week. Don't know if they're trying to tell me something.
  5. lol Just making sure bases are covered. Medical advice on an anonymous forum regarding medication is not the best idea no matter how harmless you may think said medication is. All I am doing is advising anyone who is thinking about it to do their homework first. Something any smart individual would do. It's been my experience that people aren't always "smart" though. That's not directed at anyone here; just speaking in general. Not me sir. I sleep just fine thanks. The problem is waking up.
  6. I have no familiarity about this drug but I advise reading up a little about Benzodiazepenes as the "pam" ending indicates this drug belongs to that class. Do not mix it with alcohol or other sedatives or you run the risk of respiratory arrest and also be aware that benzos can have an effect on your memory consolidation e.g. students who take a sleeping pill the night before an exam are not doing a good thing. There's a lot of info out there. As mild as it may be, at least try to stay informed about this drug and the precautions before deciding to give it a shot.
  7. Something like semi-permanent Loc Tite would be better in my opinion. Never know when you might want to make any adjustments or even sell the watch. Wouldn't be good if you ended up stripping the screws cause you glued them in there.
  8. Let's say that reps were perfect and didn't have issues with movement and QC and watchsmiths didn't turn up their nose at them, then I certainly would never buy a gen and would consider 50% off to be a great deal. Obviously none of that is the case and, as you pointed out, that's why forums like this exist but most people likely don't expect any issues with a watch. They don't know it's dirty and the screws might be stripped, etc. or that it isn't close to the gen (since it's only people on here and watch forums that scrutinize and are aware of all the little details like wrong date mag or font) so they would think that Rolex for 1/2 price is an absolute steal.
  9. Weird. Melatonin is available over the counter pretty much everywhere I've ever been. Interesting about Norway.
  10. Well some may disagree with my opinion on the matter but, while I agree that if they were judgemental about reps in the first place (if there was no misrepresentation) and thought the OP was in idiot/poser/whatever for wearing them that they'd have "issues", the fact is that he was caught trying to pass it off as the real deal; particularly when a comment was made earlier about the watch. I wouldn't think any less of my friend if I caught him/her trying to pass off a replica as a gen but I would kind of go "Hmmnn..." And yeah, you'd better believe that he'd never hear the end of it i.e. I'd tease the crap out of him. Well unless I knew it was something that he were really sensitive about cause I'm not a mean person. I'd also never try to embarrass him in front of anyone else regarding the matter. @ the OP: Thanks for sharing your story. Was pretty funny from the perspective of an onlooker but I'd sure hate if that happened to me.
  11. Ahaha, you got that right. How could I have missed the obvious? heh Gotta be up there in the ranks though. I'm sure the plebs make nothing. Pharmaceuticals would also be a good idea. One of my Pharm profs had to make a disclaimer when he was teaching us that he owned stock in one of the anti-cancer drugs; which I actually think was pretty cool (that he did it I mean). Another guy that we had as a guest lecturer was a psychiatrist and also had a degree in Pharmacology (dunno at what level; guessing just a Bachelor's). That made him pretty attractive to the drug companies to pimp their products. He told us that 3-4 times/year they send him on an all-expense paid trip to wherever (the last time being somewhere in the Far East) and pay him around $10k to give a 1/2 hour speech. Nice!
  12. Trichonella VAGINALIS. Teeheehee
  13. No. I am here to spam stupid topics. Watches are just an added bonus. :jerry:
  14. Couldn't agree more. It seems to me that people get caught up with how blue or purple their crystal is and totally forget that the whole point of AR is to actually reduce reflections and make your dial more viewable rather than add colour to the glass.
  15. I think it's metronidazole. Usually with antibiotics, the reason they advise against alcohol is because it ramps up your liver enzymes which clear the drug out of your system -> drug is not effective and you need a larger dose. This is why women on antibiotics and birth control are advised to use a backup method of contraception cause the drugs do the same thing to the hormones i.e. clears them more quickly and can lead to pregnancy. With metro, it actually has an effect like Antabuse (disulfiram) which, as you said, has an "avoid alcohol" effect. You'll likely puke if you drink. Enjoy your drink tomorrow. I totally know what you mean with the "want what you can't have" phenomenon.
  16. Sad news. Rest up and get better quickly.
  17. Sorry boss. I'll run them all by you in the future to ensure they meet your approval.
  18. Cause my daddy has money. I'm a poor student (though not as poor as some).
  19. To add to the above. I have a friend who is nearly ending his surgical residency. He has a good shot at plastics. If he makes it, he will likely make a very good income. However, two of his older brothers are doctors. One of them is married to a doctor as well. His sister is a doctor. His other sister is married to a doctor. His oldest brother is in business. Guess who makes the most money. Yup, the oldest brother.
  20. Yup. I mentioned dentistry earlier as a better profession for making bucks. Medicine has a greater overall potential depending in what you go into and how successful you are but for an average decent salary with not nearly as much risk or time investment, you can't beat certain other fields. Plus, a lot of dentists still get fee for service. They aren't capped by insurance companies or have to deal with as much BS anyway. Honestly, if I wanted to just make a lot of cash, I could work in my father's business and just take it over one day. He makes more money than I likely will as a physician because I don't want to go into surgery and don't have the grades/connections for some of the more lucrative fields (although anything's possible). I just have no interest in his retail business.
  21. Ooops, I think I misread something. You meant you can be paid to go to school while in Germany right? I thought you were speaking about the US since I know the US Army does that as well.
  22. Now look up how much his malpractice costs. Not to mention the amount of time he spent in residency to get there. Yeah, and the top 5% of X makes a lot more money than the average as well. Also, how many docs are heart surgeons compared with family practice, internal medicine, etc.? You are picking people at the top of the food chain for your example - this includes brain surgeons, plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, interventional radiologists, etc. It's not so easy to get into the US medical system afterwards. Not impossible, but you don't just waltz in and be like "Hey, I'm a doctor in Germany/UK/Sweden. Sign me up." Good luck to your friend. He will need to write his boards and jump through a lot of hoops afterwards. The army is an option. Most people don't take it. There's a reason for that. I do know people who have though. Moonlighting is a better one IMO. By the way, the US army does not pay for non-US citizens to go to medical school although they offer a "loan forgiveness" program once you actually are a doc. [edit] I think I misread and you are actually talking about being paid while studying in Germany rather than in the US. [/edit]
  23. You'd think someone would take this as a pro bono case. I don't think this is the correct way to go about tort reform. You don't put someone through this to make a point. There is no doubt that there is a requirement for some type of tort reform though. I'm sure the majority would agree. I mean it's getting to the point where an oven needs to have a large sign on it saying "Please do not fall asleep in here while the temperature is set to 450 degrees F or you will risk burning yourself" in order to prevent someone from suing over doing just that. Or a pair of shoes needs to warn against wearing them while skydiving without a parachute because it could lead to "serious bodily harm". Obviously two examples I made up but it's almost getting to that point in my mind.
  24. Whatever it is, it is insane. I knew it was a ridiculous amount but couldn't remember exactly so erred very much on the side of caution. @ryyannon: *groan* at your joke. It was so terrible it made me chuckle though. The last I read on that case, it seems that they are planning on not renewing the judge's seat on the bench. I think he should be removed from it rather than waiting. As well, it seems that this has only come about after the case became well-publicized; of course... The judge may have mental problems but the legal system has allowed the case to proceed so far. I'm not sure when exactly the suit was filed but I do believe it has been an ongoing case that has cost the plaintiff's a lot of lawyer's fees (in addition to the stress). IMO, if you sue for something stupid and waste everyone's time and put them through something like this, the fees should be reversed and you should be liable for what you were suing for.
