  1. I guess it is quite subjective but generally comparable. Thanks for the insights. Interesting on the Panarai that I have always seen it as more of a top end brand based on who I have seen wearing them ( lawyers and corporate financiers) and the scarcity of them in South Africa and in Legends country they are working mans watches! . Geography and culture also seem to play a role in brand identity. In SA a entry level car costs R100k ($10k) many mid range watches mentioned above cost a lot more here!
  2. Definitely a better quality IWC Portuguese with correct sub dials and potent power reserve !! We can dream :-)
  3. I guess it's a bit of both :-) . But am very keen to see if my perceptions are correct as I have no where near the kind of experience or expertise that the seasoned veterans here have. I know I understand car brands better than watch brands so matching them helps me put the watch brands into better perspective. Your comments on the Panerai are a perfect example and has already changed my perception of that brand Cheers
  4. Yeah - I guess that's fair. Tag trying hard to be a aspirational brand
  5. Ok so I am a bit of a car enthusiast as well ! So it makes sense to me to relate watch brands to cars. Helps me put them in some sort of hierarchy in my own mind This is what I think. Please feel free to ROTFLMAO and to have your own say and correct this. Some watches are already associated with brands but don't know if it's necessarily a good fit Panarai - Lamborghini Rolex - Porsche (struggled with this one) IWC - Ferrari Omega - Mercedes Breitling - BMW Tag - Toyota :-) Seiko - Honda Audemars Piguet - Hummer Blancpain - Bentley Patek Phillipe - Rolls Happy new year
  6. Happy new year everyone! Hope you have a blessed and prosperous 2015 Cheers!
  7. Yep, thanks for the advice. Next time will be different - in fact probably only going to order by courier in future. Interestingly this is my second rep by post - the first with no issues. I receive a slip notification that the parcel is at my local post office awaiting collection. The tellers are behind counters. If I think about in retrospect the teller was very careful not to let me have the parcel before I signed. I was a bit excited at the time so did not even think to check first :-(. She probably felt that the parcel was empty when she collected it from the back.
  8. Very sad news. Never knew him but it says a lot about this forum and the people here that he shared his struggles with you May he rest in peace
  9. Also I suspect the teller knew it was empty as she got me to sign before she gave it to me. You live and learn :-(
  10. Thanks for the support guys. Wanted to vent a bit and do feel a bit better - does help :-). Outside package was damaged in retrospect but had been retaped quite well. Did not even think to check the weight, but knew there was no watch as soon as I picked it up without opening. I suppose if I did not sign it would be sent back to the TD? What happens then?
  11. South Africa I'm embarrassed to say. We have had ongoing problems with the state run postal service for awhile. For me it's not so much about the money just the disappointment of not receiving my replica and what will happen the next time. I am currently 1 from 2. One arrived, one stolen and have one on the way - by courier this time so hopefully will arrive safe.
  12. Went to the SA post office to pick up my Rollie from aTD (not cheap one!) today. This is what I found. I wish I could say that it was a complete surprise but it's not. Given the corruption in our postal service and the strikes over the last couple of months it would have given any thief that works there plenty of opportunity to do this. So I was kinda hoping that this would not happen. Of course the parcel 'value' is not even close to what I paid so probably a complete write off. I guess for me here this is going to be an ongoing hazard to collecting replicas :-( . Don't know how to avoid this in future except perhaps just buy from TD that ship DHL/Fedex etc. What has been your experience with TD's when this happens, ( not that I am expecting anything - certainly not any fault on there side)
  13. Wow this is a great piece. Really like that first strap droptopman
  14. Thanks for sharing Mark. Pretty new to this forum but the amount of knowledge I have picked up on Replicas in a short space of time has been very rewarding thanks to RWG. Wish I had more time to study up on a few things and like you the one thing that has already piqued my interest is the more vintage side of collecting. Looking forward to researching that some more. Bit remote here in South Africa and envious of the access to resources, builders, parts etc that are available in CONUS/EU and the seemingly ease of delivery within those zones but still enjoying this considerably. Hopefully in a year will have a watch box that looks more like yours!
  15. Wow that's a beautiful picture. Merry Christmas
  16. Wishing you all a blessed Christmas ! Thanks to all for for a great forum especially those who administer and keep things going. Thanks Guys
  17. Hi Moochie Had the same problem two days ago with CC except did not get request to pay western union when payment failed.Tried to send an email to sales@xxxxxxxx the only email I could find on the website to query but it just bounced. It's a pity because puretime seems to be one of the only TD that ships fedex/DHL which suits me as our post office is in a mess and somewhat unreliable in SA. Does anyone have an email for puretime?
  18. What a great gift ! Very thoughtful of your wife.
  19. Sorry MOAB! Absolutely right. Hope these do it
  20. Ouch sorry :-( If it ever arrives that would be a record no doubt!
  21. So finally my first replica arrived from a TD! Thanks to an ongoing postal strike in South Africa the goods took 15 weeks to arrive! QC pics sent 31 august watch arrived 19 December ! To be honest I thought it was never to going to come and had given up. An very happy with my Omega PO high beat replica! Big thanks to Joshua. He was very professional throughout and I never doubted that the problems were not from his side. Thanks to RWG that gave me the assurance to buy from a vetted TD! Hmmm think this hobby is going to cost me a few bucks! What's the longest you have waited?
