I'm guessing you're still a little young; in your travels you try to hook up with the same kind of women you do back home; and you want to enjoy life before settling down. What I'm trying to say is that you can find women who compliment your interests (look at me), but when you marry, your priorities (should) change. I notice one thing about men -- they try to find the perfect woman, in body, personality and interests. That's a recipe for life disconsolation, Smilingbear. Just try to find a woman, once you've had fun, who is there for the tough times and the good times. And don't let her go if you do.

Vlydog, you're one of the most underrated members here. You're always coming up with great ideas and comments like these. Thanks! As for me, other than WATCHES, of course. Books Movies Travelling Militaria Clothes Sport (esp. soccer, tennis, golf as both particiant and spectator) Fin de Si

Whahoo! Just bought Gen Ladies Cartier Tank on ebay !
Victoria replied to BobM's topic in Other Brands Area
What a bargain, baby! I am so happy for you. I have a 1975 Cartier tank, very similar in style, and it's BEAUTIFUL. I am so happy for you both. Pics! Pics! -
Wow, this thread is very enlightening, and thank you so much for posting it, P4GTR. My thoughts are spinning as I want to respond in a waterfall of words. Here are some observations: 1) I am one of the lucky ones. My mother loves watches, my father likes my collecting habits (he thinks it as an investment), and my boyfriend is patient and generous about anything I do. So, though I possibly bore people with my latest OCD hobby, by no means are they unsupportive. Am I blessed or what? 2) Ever read "For Sale" threads when a guy starts off with something like, "Well, I want to buy another watch, but have 4 already, and the wife is only allowing me to keep 4, so this one must go"? I literally go WHAT THE F---! No way, really? REALLY?? I've read DOZENS of posts like that. Yeah, maybe they're fibbing, but there are enough stories on rep forums about wives putting their foot down about more watches, so it's gotta be true sometimes. How can certain women be like this? I would indulge the HECK out of my husband. I would pamper him, love him, and make sure any little innocent passion of his was encouraged -- be it sports, be it cars, be it watches. Chances are most of the guys in this forum are not dead-beat dads. They're not spending money wantonly on booze, and whores. I bet you anything 90% of you are excellent providers, who at least try your best to keep your wife, children clothed, fed and sheltered. Jesus Christ, and then a wife has the temerity to insist "NO more watches!"?? That's awful. 3) Look our mutual passion has a touch of the geekiness about it. But worse than that, it's expensive. Maybe gen watch forums think we're poor, because we can't afford the real money to buy gens -- maybe they're right sometimes. But I've noticed most people in this forum are doing mighty well financially. The ones who aren't, are still not starving, and God willing, they will see better days. I get being bored by our passion, but not the jealousy. Being surrounded by a lot of people who support me, I will also tell you that my watch collection makes my neighbours both envious and competitive. This I too don't get. Ah well.

See, guys? This is the way to get someone to show you their goods. So next time you're wanting to see a woman's rack, just tell her a little bird told you she's got mosquito bites for boobs. SUCKAZZ!! P.S.: Just messin' witchu, TWP. Take all the time you need, my prince. P.P.S.: Australia rocks.

MY MOTHER TOO! Well, change beach to telephone booth and San Diego to Copenhagen, but it's the same story. We went to the police (very nice, Danish police) and they held it for 3 months, if memory serves. No one claimed it, so she kept it! I will ask her if I can take a photo of the SOLID GOLD Rollie...but I've made a pact with my parents. No gens in wrist-checks, etc. I've made one or two exceptions without you guys noticing, but this is her watch, so we'll see. What model was your dad's found Rolex, do you know?

Where's my 005, beeatch! I've lived in 4 continents in 11 nations, travelled to more places than people could visit in 3 lifetimes (including Cuba) and the US of A is the only place in the world I'd care to raise a family -- save England, of course, but I'm partial to cream teas. The Irish Curse strikes again.
-
Ever had the misfortune of ever losing a watch? Have you ever been mugged and had to give up your beloved Rolex? Or are you one of those lucky dogs out there, that actually found a watch once? Tell us your story.
-
Oh my word, yes! That JLC is so classy too, Scoobs.

Speaking of humour, it is often said the Irish not only taught the English how to speak the English launguage correctly, but to be funny whilst they're at it. "A true gentleman is one who is never unintentionally rude" - Oscar Wilde I wonder what old Oscar would make of this entire thread. Probably call over Bosey to snigger at us all.

Ryyannon not only pokes fun at life, at others, at the whole crazy world we live in, to his inestimable credit, he also pokes fun at himself. That is something many a Brit, we who pride ourselves about being so self-deprecating, could certainly learn a thing or two from.

Switzerland has a reputation for being rather dull, boring, and safe. Canada is cited by many people as a social paradise because their politics are a little closer to what they offer, as opposed to the USA. Nothing wrong with either, but it goes to explaining a lot about the pass they get, even without this "trumpeting" issue heard below. In Rio de Janeiro, and S

What a horndog! By the way, I was amused/horrified yesterday when I got my first vaguely male creep PM at another watch forum (thankfully). It read: "Hello I take it your a female." Note the spelling, and abrupt, rather chilling question about gender. I sniffed, and deleted. Yeppers. Well, you know...we in the West more or less have most problems solved. We have democracy. We have universal suffrage. We have relative amounts of freedom, and safety that other peoples would kill for. I really don't see too many hot button issues within OUR OWN to keep us going. America-cultural bashing is pretty much it for many. I was young. I needed the money.

It rang a distant bell, Scoobs, so I Googled. According to this diagramme, it's a so-so marque (after recently being relaunched in 2003):

Not really, Pugwash. You're not the worst exemplar of this, but a lot of people in this forum really really dislike Americans having access to handguns. They are condenscending to a degree that is all too common when talking of anything USA: a mixture of "European" cultural superiority (read, more civilised), pity, and horror, that has reached fever pitch levels since 2001 and Katrina. In turn, this makes Americans defensive, but given their cultural nature, their best defence is offence. They in this thread and others, including I, are trying to explain the reasons WHY SOME Americans own handguns, find nothing wrong in doing so, and in fact, rather enjoy it, like many people enjoying buying counterfeit watches. They are also pointing out that the previous non-violent paradise many people have in the Old Continent is fast disappearing, to your well-being. In turn, it seems that there is zero real understanding from certain people of why this is so, which strikes many Americans as bigotted bias. The equivalent is something like this: Marijuana usage is legal, or at least tolerated in many countries. It isn't in the USA. Some people like this, some don't, on both sides. But can you imagine if almost every European forum member felt his culture being attacked by Americans, because they can legally own this psychotropic substance? Can you imagine how people would feel if they threw statistics in their face at every turn, inferring everything from degeneracy to complete incomprehensibility about this cultural "quirk"? Part of this phenomenon is about jealousy. Part of this phenomenon is about bias. Part of this phenomenon is about horror. And there is no end in sight about the judgemental, insidiously dismissive tone some people use about Americans about this, or any other topic where Americans are seen as bucking the world trend. It's a shame, because I think we all of us have a lot to learn about each other, without these mutual biases interrupting our dialogue. Won't someone please rise above the bias, and defensiveness, and just listen to each other without insults? P.S.: I'll be back to this thread shortly. Boy have I got a humdinger of a photograph for you guys. WAIT FOR IT!

At the risk of bringing down the ire of many, I hope you guys know Josh's new internet addy is: http://www.pc-80108.com/ And the "Hxxxxx" is back.

Yes, that's right, Lanikai. I have two, soon three such, and I believe they are PVD -- but possibly with ceramic paint.

Wow, the colour actually doesn't make me wretch, which I would imagine I would've done if someone told me, "My car is navel orange!". I don't know how much these cost, but this is my dream one day. JAGUAR E TYPE SERIES I 4.2 ROADSTER

My good God, this forum has been down today. Boooooring. Guns, Watches, Religion, Maps. It's like a geek convention at the Marriott. We touched on horoscopes, star signs, and the like on another thread. This time, it's Adam Sandler's turn to make us guffaw at ourselves. See if you recognise yourself, in your star sign below! Aquarius (Jan 23 - Feb 22) You have an inventive mind and are inclined to be progressive. You lie a great deal. You make the same mistakes repeatedly because you are stupid. Everyone thinks you are a [censored]ing jerk. Pisces (Feb 22 - Mar 22) You are a pioneer type and think most people are dickheads. You are quick to reprimand, impatient and full of advice. You do nothing but [censored]-off everyone you come in contact with. You are a [censored]. Aries (Mar 23 - April 22) You have a wild imagination and often think you are being followed by the FBI or CIA. You have minor influence on your friends and people resent you for flaunting your power. You lack confidence and are a general dipshit. [*g*] Taurus (April 23 - May 22) You are practical and persistent. You have a dogged determination and work like hell. Most people think you are stubborn and bullheaded. You are nothing but a goddamned communist. Gemini (May 23 - June 22) You are a quick and intelligent thinker. People like you because you are bisexual. You are inclined to expect too much for too little. This means your are a cheap bastard. Geminis are notorious for thriving on incest. Cancer (June 23 - July 22) You are sympathetic and understanding to other people's problems, which makes you a sucker. You are always putting things off. That is why you will always be on welfare and won't be worth a [censored]. Everyone in prison is a Cancer.> Leo (July 23 - Aug 22) You consider yourself a born leader. Others think you are an idiot. Most leos are bullies. You are vain and cannot tolerate criticism. Your arrogance is disgusting. Leo people are thieving mother[censored]ers and enjoy masturbation more than sex. [Totally nailed me!] Virgo (Aug 23 - Sept 22) You are the logical type and hate disorder. Your [censored]-picking attitude is sickening to your friends and co-workers. You are cold and unemotional and often fall asleep while [censored]ing. Virgos make good bus drivers and pimps. Libra (Sept 23 - Oct 22) You are the artistic type and have a difficult time dealing with reality. If you are a male you are probably queer. Chances for employment and monetary gain are nill. Most Libra women are whores. All Libras die of venereal disease. Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 22) You are the worst of the lot. You are shrewd in business and cannot be trusted. You shall achieve the pinnacle of success because of your total lack of ethics. You are the perfect son-of-a-[censored]. Most Scorpios are murdered. Sagittarius (Nov 23 - Dec 22) You are optimistic and enthusiastic. You have a wreckless tendency to rely on your luck since you have no talent. The majority of Sagittarians are drunks. You are a worthless piece of [censored]. Capricorn (Dec 23 - Jan 22) You are conservative and afraid of taking risks. You are basically chickenshit. There has never been a Capricorn of any importance. You should kill yourself.

Well, me and CharlyJakob go back. His designs are very decent, I must say. I've seen better on VDBroucke, and Zeugma, but they're not bad. BUT THE LEATHER: well, as you said, oh God, the smell, and the texture -- horrific. Maybe Monday I'll show you his other strap. Was supposed to be a 24/24, and it turned out to be a 22/24 (?!) because of bad cutting... @TWP: Nice leather jacket, boyo! @OBMTO: Awesome Savage strap. Double row just like a Walter!

Hanging out with my buddy who just got a gen Breitling for Bentley
Victoria replied to CY0811's topic in The Breitling Area
Apparently, Anton, you should've just stopped at "we'll never figure out women"... For the record, the Breitling marque is my least favourite, precisely because it is as someone said, MUCH too busy. It's so off-putting. Though Panerais have some beasts of ugly watches (the whole Ferrari range for me is barfarama, sorry guys), they are perfection in silhouette. They look good at night, in the morning, when it rains, when it shines, when it snows, under water, above water. In short, any time. And versatility is the one thing all women appreciate most in an accessory. I hope Dr. Freud is paying attention. -
Oh hello! You should've said it was for the PAM 177 to begin with, FxrAndy. Yes, the gold. Not the one I chose. Boo.

You once said, By-Tor, that you'd never wear watches that people wouldn't actually think you could afford. But I would've thought you and the new Aquatimer, which Puggy is so high on, are a perfect fit. Yet you're not an IWC guy, at all, right? No interest in the Aquatimer, at all?? Believe it or not, I'm back to Cartiers and Rolexes, same as I started when those were my gens...3 Rolexes are on their way from Jay, and one Cartier from a local collector. But this is what I want next, the Seatimer: I'd have to give Ola yet another high-five for inspiring this new interest, like she did with the PAM Purdey Lion. Those Egypt photos were awesome. They even made me like the Cousteau! (Not for me though) Oh, and TWP is modding the PAM 005 for me, and I CANNOT wait to have that. My dream come true.
