Start-Of-The-Week Wristcheck (14-15 Jan 2008)
Victoria replied to Victoria's topic in General Discussion
That's your gen, right, FxrAndy? It's very special. Hope you get to wear it, and not your wife. -
MONDAY TWP PAM 210 on a Maniffature Firenze black calf strap, under UV-LED torch. TUESDAY New all-gold Silix Rolex MOP Day-Date. (Sometimes, it's good to be minimalist)

Ah thanks. I think UB7 got it from somewhere else though, as I Googled "Hublot Black Marcus" and that Fleabay auction came up! And others too.

To those who say a rare Rolex seen in the wild must be a fake
Victoria replied to freddy333's topic in The Rolex Area
You've been speaking to my mother, haven't you, Freddy? Yes, when I took up this hobby I had the contents of our bank vault boxes inventoried. Well, I did most of the work, but they were appraised professionally. The appraiser-jeweller offered me cash on the spot for the watch above. No way. I'll wear it, enjoy it, but it's mine forever because it belonged to my great-grandmother, my grandmother, and now me. I only took it out of the vault, because on Tuesday I'm going to my trusty jewellers to have it serviced. Here's hoping I'm not robbed along the way, but that's the risk any Rolex owner has to take. -

That is true with almost all investments. It's sad to think of a beautiful watch like that Rolex as an investment. It feels cold and unnatural. But I'm glad my grandmother thought of me, when she was wearing this and making her Will. Now, I love wearing it, but it's not insured. We can't afford to. But once we have it serviced, with a lovely new sapph crystal installed, I can sell it and buy a house with it -- well, it'll make a nice down payment. Not that I will ever do that. It's for my future daughter. That's what patrimony is all about. -
Beautiful collection. Perhaps the most eclectic in all of RWG. May I ask a Germanic question? Are the watches pictured in order of purchase? Only I see the B&M Riviera as second-to-last, and the Trias last. Did you just buy that?

LOL! There's a Gold's Gym a few blocks away from me (well, everything is a few blocks away in SoBe. It's 20 blocks wide). I entered to inquire, and saw all these muscle-types wearing loose shorts, circa Arnold Schwarzenegger-Pumping Iron, and bimbettes in wall-to-wall pink, and walked out. It was a meat market. The receptionist was wearing a Cartier Fran

I'm all for wearing and enjoying watches, or anything else we have, that is worth a king's ransom. But his comment above lacks some perspective. Taking care of them for the next guy could also mean one's kids. The reason we slave, save, and invest is for them too, no? To leave them something of worth. -
 I like your 'tude, Tech. BTW, your allusion to a "locked" locker actually did happen to me. I had my racketball racket, and Sport Walkman (remember those? In yellow) stolen from a ritzy gym locker once, and I never again returned. I'm guessing one of the staff pilfered it, like what happened to Dionne Warwick and her jewels in an Italian hotel recently. It included a Rolex watch... hxxp://www.luxist.com/2008/01/10/dionne-warwick-loses-her-jewels-in-italy/ So, it's either a cheap watch, or a rep I can wear everywhere, but wouldn't mind losing it when I go into the sauna. WBK offered me a Tag Carrera Chrono. I said no. Too butch. My quest continues. I like Laz' watch, a lot though!

Fleabay Item number: 140192456711 Buy It Now price: US $20,750.00 Maybe others feel this way when they see the other HBBs we have, but I wouldn't pay a dime for the Black Marcus. Very nondescript watch, IMO. Why is it called "The Black Marcus"?
-
Chris, I did a search just now, and indeed both you (and I!) had posted about similar topics. Like you, I just can't do it. I can't buy that Casio above...at least, not tonight. Stylish it may be, well for a quartz -- practical, no doubt. But ay, a Casio. If I were in a gen forum, that's one thing. But as rep watch owners, maybe you understand where I'm coming from... Anyway, thanks guys. See you tomorrow.
-
I was about to buy this watch on the *Bay: Listed at less than $50: "Casio BG1001-7VD Baby-G Ladies Illuminator Watch NEW TANNING TIMER - SHOCK & WATER RESISTANT - WORLD TIME" Water resitant to 200m. Plus a Tanning timer (good grief). But guess what? It's not a gen Casio! Can you beat that? They make rep watches of CASIOS. Finally, I'm going with this, the Casio Baby-G Poison in white: I'm so hating this. I really want an IWC CD. P.S.: Who WEARS these Nikes? Barf. @Pugwash: Thanks! That's sound advice.
-
Crikey, the Casios are a popular suggestion. Even Raymond, a man who is elegance personified, suggested it. Will I have to cave in? Thanks, b16a2! Tangential website: You can download a programme from here to help you meet your exercise goals. http://nbfits.com/ Incidentally, the chick is wearing the exact gym gear I just bought! Well, mine is Adidas... You'll notice no watch.
-
Quite so, Luisik. I understand, don't worry. But your reply seemed like a non sequitur and the followup replies are backwards-logic (reasoning based on subsequent replies). Pugwash was describing this film, how great Marion Cotillard was, without any allusions to tastes or America. Then you replied "too melodramatic for our American fellows tastes"? This is my guess about your train of thought: You said that because no one had replied to Pugwash's post until you did. You think this forum is mostly made up of Americans, and therefore it resulted in a lack of interest to his post. Is this it? Just wondering.

Magagne, thanks. (I miss your "V for Vendetta" avatar, BTW!) I am reminded that Erwinner said he worked out with his 177h on a Toscana Fiero strap (!). That's another thing. For me, Rubber diver strap only, with a PAM. I can't imagine sweating into one of the pricey PAM straps. Hope Nanuq answers. Can't believe he wears those vintage Rolexes whilst bicycling in Alaska.

Check. Not check. See, this is it. I live in South Beach, and the potential gym is located inside a hotel (it's got famous people like Puffy staying there all the time -- don't worry, this doesn't mean I'll be name-dropping if I see one. I'll take pics instead! ). On the one hand, who cares, I'm there to work out. But after all these rep watches I bought, can I really go back to my Nike running watch? Isn't that the POINT of rep watches: that they're more disposable than a gen? And Slai, aren't you scared to lose your watch when you put it down?? I would be. Disposable yes, but still a hassle to lose. The black Tag Tiger Woods is too masculine-looking for me (it's boxy), but I believe there's one in white. Thanks Perry, guys.

It could, and in that case I recommend the [url=http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187147-d228790-Reviews-Hotel_Edouard_VII-Paris_Ile_de_France.html]H

Neither of the first two watches are small. Does the bulkiness bother or hamper you? I guess this is one of those times where being a woman REALLY makes it different for me, because I have weak wrists. I used to kickbox and run, so my thighs are overdeveloped, not my upper-body. The Cousteau is a good suggestion, though I don't have one. Thanks!
-
I'm joining a fitness club soon, and can you believe it -- no idea which watch to wear. Narrowed down choices include: - DSN 112 (too bulky?) - 42.5mm PO (too flimsy?) - HBB Aspen (too fashionista?) That's why I went with that rather minging Swiss Army watch shown in the Wristcheck. I need a watch which can withstand running, lifting, and saunas. Possibly a dip in the jacuzzi -- so obviously, no chronos. I may have to actually BUY a rep watch for this venture. Your thoughts would be appreciated, but let me ask you in general: What watch do you wear for working out, or jogging, bicycling, swimming, etc.?
-
Yes, I love the Swiss "flag" there too! But I confess, don't like the watch enough to wear with any frequency. I got it as a present from a friend, so I feel badly. On Repgeeks, someone already (kindly) said this wasn't the right watch to wear for the gym, etc. Which actually is a thread idea... It's very comfortable, though, Pix. Maybe you can choose another model though. @FxrAndy: Que pasa, Mufasa?

Wow, I thought so, but I entered "Jules Verne" as my search string and didn't find ONE on sale up to March 2005, in that section. They had loads of 24/22s, and even some 27/22s which seem perfect for your Radiomir, but the latter, infrequently. The going rate for a new 24/22 there seems to be $250 in good condition/new, up to $280. The 26/26s start at $310. I'll keep an eye out for you, Alant! @Richyman: I'm glad you love the Jules Verne! Here are some more shots of this super-glamourous strap: If ever there was a $350 strap that was worth it, it is this.

Oh God, MACAP this and MACAP that. That's all I hear in that forum. Honestly, it's enough to make a girl go buy a Cimbali Max Hybrid. Check this out: "In pondering my distribution woes (separate thread, and too lazy to link it so ptth) I started considering the problem from scratch. You've basically got a powder that is as close as equipment permits to homogeneous particle size, in a cylindrical container. You want that powder to evenly distribute. Wouldn't centrifugal force be the ultimate distribution method? Wouldn't that exert an even pull on all grinds, tugging them gently inward (and downward, thanks to gravity) until they were dispersed evenly throughout the basket? I'm not thinking of a megabucks, megaprecise high speed centrifuge. Actually that would probably mess things up by separating out beans with different densities from the blend. I'm thinking practical, home-use. Just something-- something like... aha! What about a salad spinner rigged up to gently hold the basket? Maybe use a light tamp to level the top so nothing goes flying out, and then let the physics do the rest of the work. Anyone out there got a salad spinner, or something else that can do a similarly controlled rotation, and want to do some experimenting?" Now TELL ME that's not like us dissecting the new Asian 7750 with running seconds at 3? @Watchdude below: Can I move in with you?? I come bearing watches and straps! You know, I can just imagine the British reaction to this thread. It's rather like Ryyannon's. This recent 1990s BoBo fascination with espresso makers, grinders, and beans, is soooo American, it hurts. It's a bit like Panerai watches...
-
Sorry, mate. You're on your own there. I have never watched Buffy, Friends, or even a full episode of Seinfeld. British television is where it's at!
-
I can't believe you said that, Doc! I just purchased a beautiful Henckels knife set, but after checkout I noticed they were made in China. Sucks. Still, a Wristcheck in the offing. @UB7: Capressos, Shuns, Nespressos, Hublots. Dude, you're ALL about quality!
