  1. Having been stuck at home for a fortnight, I realised, damn I miss the beauty around me. Miami/Miami Beach are two of the most naturally pretty cities I've ever seen. What it lacks in culture, like all beachtowns, it makes up in shiny, upbeat newness with a riot of aquatints. This place is FUN. So, inspired by Watchbuff's AMAZING New York skyline photographs via his helicopter, and loving Nanuq's Life in Alaska series, I give you!...no, not the city where I was born, but where my family have settled -- South Florida. Show the forum photos of your city too!
  2. Flawless. And look at those autumn colours again. I don't know the meaning of the word jealousy, but I have to tell you, I have a lot of Sehnsucht when I look at your photos. @Ehtolcad: Thanks! The leather is as can be expected from any strapmaker from the Far East, BUT, it looks good. Same deal with StrapCulture straps, and Strap-works, in fact. All Asian leather. @Dluddy: SAAB!
  3. Sometimes you have to go to those kinds of places, to be grateful from where you come. (I felt sorry for the ladies with the chadors, both inside and outside the water, despite knowing it's their wish to be so clad) Oh and Happy Birthday, Rxus!
  4. Ack! I can see only a few of the images here. The ones on Photobucket and Image Shack don't appear (including my own). Maintenance, I'm guessing. EDIT: Hmm, some are back, but some still don't show. Ah well. TWP, any time, darling. But you know what I have been waiting for, since August, so we'll do a round-up when all the watches are finished. Let me know by PM, when that might be. I am so excited!
  5. Yep. It's like a car wreck. All cleaned up and no blood and gore for the rubberneckers to see. I even deleted it from Youtube, so my wristshot parody with that weird "RWG Down" elves tune, if that's what it is, remains with those who saw it.
  6. The Ultimate DSN Fiddy would be my vote, TheMuck!
  7. Wow, I'm not surprised. That looks like it could survive one of Nanuq's infamous tyre rolls. It's interesting, though!
  8. You mean, this watch Mendota? Never come across the name, in the various trusted collectors' sites we have here. But if I were you, I'd email or PM Narikaa, Ruby, TWP, and Wackobirdkeeper (on RWI) who all specialise in getting watches,
  9. Member Kaidoy recently had an incredible review of Bergie's Armani suits. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=350420

    It

Aww, man, does that mean you're NOT a Freemason, POTR?
  11. I'll take it!
  12. MONDAY Okay! Back to the more traditional Wristcheck from me. Guys, I will level with you and tell you I'm as sick as a dog with a cold, and have been for 2 weeks. Wheezing, coughing, the works. Couldn't go out to take my usual snaps, so I'll be back Midweek with some better shots! Without further ado, my Andrew PAM 113 on Taikonaut Grey Basketweave. TUESDAY One of the best straps I have, a DIRK Vacchetta Natural strap on the increasingly worn PAM 118, gotten from RWG member, CzarCzar. EDIT: Dirks are being sold again currently on the gen forum. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/2q9van ...JUST in case, Happy Thanksgiving!
  13. My joke isn't going down very well, so I'll cut my losses and take it down. I honestly thought most of you got the same little weird ditty, every time RWG went down which happened for me at around 7-8 PM EDT. Okay, lesson learnt. No more levity from me.
  14. Heavens no. I'm Spurs! Hey, you still want my money, 'cause I'll be happy to let you ignore that too.
  15. I've asked this question of the Mod team before...but whenever RWG goes down, this is the Snowhite and the 7 Dwarves type music I "hear" from my computer. Now, either I'm the only one who does, which means my account was hacked, or others do too. Which gives? P.S.: Run several spyware programmes every time this happens. My computer is always as clean as a whistle.
  16. EDITTED: Youtube video I made has been removed by me. As I said below: "This is the odd music I get, whenever RWG goes down. I'm conjecturing either others do, or it's an isolated occurence. " When I tried to make a self-parody of my famous Wristies, to poke fun at myself, people took it the wrong way. So, removed. If Mods wish to delete the thread, please do.

    Tattoos

Magnificent. Even if I had wanted a tattoo, I don't think I would have the courage to withstand 4.5hrs of this, Swdivad! I'll preserve my pain threshold for childbirth...
  18. Wow, Arty nice find! Commercialism at its worst, utter worst, the graves of thousands turned into a bibelot...and yet, I want one -- for the same reason this gives me goosepimples just hearing it.
  19. I know it was directed at another member. But the words it contained alluded to another post, which made clear your sneering at "celebrity" history, as being worthy to be mentioned in the same breath. That didn't make sense, but nevertheless, I think I know what you mean. I'm fairly good at reading between the lines and very little gets past me, as I'm sure you've noticed by my 'I wasn't born yesterday' retort. Anyway, let's hope this small interlude is quickly forgotten, and that the more important part of the post -- the History of Panerai, and the suggestion of the Alpha Radiomir, was helpful. Here's my own quick contribution: (Jon, this inscription reminded me of you!) "About the content of the book: The book is written in three languages. Each language has it's column, mostly on the right pages. German language (left columns), italian language (center columns) and english language (right columns). The book format is 21,5 x 21,5 cm. 228 pages hold 147 contemporary / actual photos and 55 historical photos / documents, which most of them are yet unreleased (e.g. an extract of a german frogmen's diary). 4 of the 5 watches carry answers and interesting stories about their previous owners." You can get info on buying it here: hxxp://www.network54.com/Forum/353393/message/1195295935/ Price: 79€ + shipping Nothing pleases snobby-gen-owners more, than to think rep watch collectors are just a bunch of sleazy poseurs and cheats. They believe they are the gatekeepers of the Panerai tradition and history, because they appreciate the marque enough to honour it by buying the gen. That suggests an investment not only in money, but in appreciation and knowledge. (I'm not so sure they are far wrong, but that's another story) But this is one way people who own rep watch PAMs can snub their noses at them, because there are few of us who aren't aware of its history, its importance, and its worth. Those that don't, do as Ssabripo do and ask. Well, we have your answer in this thread. Enjoy.
  20. I love you.
  21. Let's be plain-spoken here instead of dancing around the topic. I do so hate games, and I'm sorry I played them earlier. The cuteness factor wore off fast. I took your original post to be a kind of slam towards my continued posting of celebrity wristchecks and small recap of Sylvester Stallone's role in Panerai's recent prominence. If that is not the case, I'm sorry, but it's difficult to know how to interpret "sorry.. i don't consider Movie Stars.. Panerai history.. maybe i'm just old fashion and go more for the "History" and not the 'Trivia" any other way. I didn't care for that remark, and worse, the sentiments of disdain they contain. May I say that my interest in Panerai is acutely historical (do I really need to repeat that I have a degree in History, and am writing a book presently, AGAIN? Perhaps the archive rat pallor doesn't show in my own Wristchecks...). But that what some people misapprehend, yourself perhaps included, is that those who make history today with Panerai are not submariners risking their lives, torpedoing enemy ships during a war. They are men and women like you and I. Some just happen to be famous and have their own, however footnote-like place in history. It's not the same, but it's PART of the fabric of understanding the marque. History is a funny thing. Count to 5. Guess what? Those 5 seconds ago are history. And they all count.
  22. No, sir. Not yet. Perhaps my Mailbox was full and you couldn't ask this delicate question privately, and perhaps you are unaware that I have had a severe cold going now on two weeks, but I have apprised Vlydog (edit: AND Admin) of this situation and TTBOMK, he is understanding of it. Just as soon as I can go out to my bank and regularise my affairs, I will do so. I apologise for the delay. I hope that answered your question, TT.
  23. What a good eye, Deltatahoe! That is an unusual, even Radiomirish Rolex. EDIT: Just checked the site. They call it a "cushion" case (dating from the 1940s). A great description.
  24. Beautiful! And I think I bought a strap from you on RWI! Welcome here, just in case.
  25. One day I'll explain it to you. In the US, they have a system of library sharing called inter-library loan. You go to your local public library and fill out a form with the details of the book you want, the OCLC number, and your library ticket number. Then, if it's available anywhere in the USA, or the UK, you can have borrow the book as if it were in your own library. Some libraries even offer extensions, should you not finish reading said book in the allotted time (usually 2-4 weeks for an ILL). -- I never did this in the UK, so we could very well have that same system, and/or other countries. Takes a lot of trust towards library patrons, though -- Guess which books I have recently ordered, since the many branches of the Miami Public library system do not offer a single book on Panerai? Thanks for the heads up too, SSS! I'm glad it came of some use to someone. Do you remember that once I posted an "auction scam" where I believed the seller was inchoately using the word "Radiomir" to sell his Alpha? A prominent member pointed out that it didn't actually say Panerai on the watch, so it was okay. But surely, I responded, Radiomir is also trademarked by the Panerai marque? However, even if that is true, I'm not sure how international patents work for terms well over 60 years old.
