Wow Freddy!!! Spectacular job so far! I have also always been resistant to gold in my vintage subs...But for some reason, i've been warming up to a model here and there (in particular the black nipple dialed GMT's...I've even been considering the 2 toned ones!!) Your project is defiantly pushing me further towards the "gold side", so to speak. Please keep us updated, I can't wait to see the final product!! Rgds Ed

Beautiful!!!! I know from first hand experience (TWICE!!) just how hard it can be to find bezels for vintage doxas... Yours is perfect!! Congratulations, and wear it in good health!! Ed

Man...just found this company! Look at this beatiful pieces

Thanks red!, but no guides were used, it was all by eye.. The original tube (which was cheapo crap) was crudely remove by filing a grove into it, and then using a flat blade to do the rest... Needless to say i have since realized there are better ways o get the job done ... ;-) Ed -

Hey Red, believe it or not, it's not that hard to do.... here's a homemade Tudor/Bond Sub i made a while from a 94010 rep i had .... not a perfect job, but considering i did it with a dremel and a jewelers file, i'd say it was passable.. ;-) -

When i was 14-15, i went to my dad's best friends house, and he took out his vintage (not as vintage back then, mind you) watch collection to show me... they were: 1) Porche design IWC chrono, 2) 5513 (5512?) 3) A large 70's Heuer Chono and last but not least 4)Tudor Montecarlo I will never forget seeing the Tudor and, having no idea what it(or any of the rest were for that matter) was until many years later when the bug hit me hard enough to start looking for something myself... As soon as I saw a Monte Carlo on ebay, i remembered my dad's friends watch watch immediately... I just remeber thinking it was the coolest watch i had ever seen!!!... (funnily enough, i also remember thinking the 5513/12 was pretty boring compared to all the rest... now i pretty much only wear subs... taste evolves with age I guess) To this day, every time i see a Montecarlo, it brings me back there to the day at my dad's friends place again.. Thanks!! Wear it in good health !! Rgds ED

If you could pick your 3 favourites, which would they be?
eddog replied to Chronus's topic in The Rolex Area
Hmmmmm.... 1) A/6538 - (Mod issued 3,6,9 Explorer dial with fixed bars and one-off prototype bezel) 2) MN 7922 Tudor - Marine Nationale issued, pre 7924 Prototype Tudor sub, w/8mm crown and thick 6538 case and caseback. 3) MN 94010 destro - Marine Nationale issued non date snowflake sub with the dial turned, and crown on the left of the watch, so it would be more functional for a left-handed member of the French commando group.... While they're not all Rolexes, I think you get the idea.. cheers Ed (edit) Oh and just one more....... 4)MN 7928 w/ square CG - Pre pointed CG, post No CG, Tudor sub with 7mm twinlock crown. Also delivered with 100m 330ft dail not the usual 200m 660ft dials... -

Wow Kent, That's some watch!! Loving the whole set up, explorer dial with red triangle, fixed bars as well.... inspired by the Aussie military 5510 by any chance? http://www.ukwatches.com/images/5510mil.jpg http://www.chrono24.com/en/rolex/1373935.htm either way, Wear it well!! regards Eddog

I Like DLC :Jumpy: I think i see some submariners in there .... Any vintage subs by any chance? Or are they mainly the late model versions? would some close-ups be possible? Rgrds Ed

That's a nice Tudor snowflake!! A great, and what looks like it's all original or at least 100% correct(maybe the difference in the dial and hand lume is because the dial was a service replacement, but If so, I think from long ago). Funny how with Tudor, Rolex really felt they could move away from the conventional submariner formula of the tradition black dial with round markers and Mercedes hands. They really created a very unique and many ways more aesthetically interesting. I believe these will be the collector watches of the future ... All the best Ed
