You are trying to find logic in the rep watchmaker, and there is none to be found. In the standard Skyland line the v3 is only $50 bucks or so cheaper than the v2, so why should the v2 be so much more expensive in DLC? PROFIT! And you can't tell me the v2 costs $50 bucks more than the v3 to make in the standard stainless either. You can't say that DLC "costs" $200, but they don't have a problem charging it.

Depends on if you are looking new or preowned. The new SMP models are powered by the Co-Axial movement and cost about a grand more than the old model. I prefer the old model as the standard ETA movement has proven itself and the Co-Axial modification has not, the extra cash in the pocket helps as well.

It reminds me of a Bulgari, but I am not 100% sure and I can't make out the dial text. The one on the right is a Breitling, the left a UN.

I would not recommend this if you have never had a watch open before.

I can't see this in the $250 or below range as andreww hoped for above. I can see it being slightly lower but if they priced it at $350 then it would still be significantly cheaper than the other and they would have a higher profit. I can't see them cutting the price too low and leaving that much on the table.

I am going to post a conversation topic I had the other day with some friends. My old man has degrees in political science and economics and taught for a while. We were discussing the horrors of being an economics teacher right now, anywhere from high school on up. How on earth could you teach about a capitalist society and how the best businesses survive and the others go out of business in today's business environment? AIG is turning Uncle Sam into an ATM machine and GM is on the way there as well. How do you tell a student about the principles of scarce resources and how they apply to running a successful business vs a failing business and the minute your student walks out the door and gets on CNN.com or turns on the tube they see the Gov't bailing out bankers making millions?

RobbieG - Panerai is also a Richemont group company, and they have done quite well building on ETA movements, and yet they turn around and bash them. It reminds me of BMW owners pissing on GM owners as having inferior equipment even though the BMW had a GM transmission in it. If you call someone else out for having crap, you need to make sure you are not also buying crap in your car or on your wrist.

RobbieG - Agreed. I is funny to see how many people prop up Rolex because they have an "in-house" movement. While I respect them for that ability, Seiko also has in-house movements and they don't get as much respect. I have only had trouble with one ETA movement, in an Omega, and they resolved that quickly and were apologetic. I wonder if a large part of the ETA hate stems from them being a "Swatch" brand. While I have full respect for pretty much all brands in the swatch group, from Swatch to Omega and up, I wonder if they would not gather more respect had they picked a name for the group that was not affiliated with watches that look like Cracker Jack toys. I was under the impression however that part of the "tightening down" if you will at ETA was that they were going to begin to do more of the decoration and finishing of their customer movements than previously. Essentially they were watching the revenue brought in by say Soprod or Sellita for decorating and adjusting ETA movements and decided to cut out the middle man. Does this mean in the future a manufacturer such as Breitling will provide their finishing specs to ETA and receive movements ready to install, or have I been misinformed on the whole fiasco.

I don't understand why all of the manufacturers who receive the COSC cert don't make more of a presentation out of the cert. I had to ASK Omega to even get mine and they came through the mail, apart from the watch. Breitling gives a cert but it is not as nice as the one that I got with my Omega or you have posted above. Why go to the effort to have them certified and then use it as a selling point if you are going to obscure the original certificate?
