  1. Maybe he should have a visible disclaimer then? However, his attitude toward wearing a "VIP" label combined with the sig, sure says a lot. I am sure he doesn't mind the implications as he has chosen the attendant appearance for himself. Go ahead, use "Contributor", I like that label... oh wait, that makes everyone else NON-Contributors.... can't have that perceived inequity now, can we. Well then, use "Supporter", oh, wait.. same thing applies.. Gee.. strip all the labels... Then we can all be [nameless big donat]... or not. And no one can point any fingers... then what? No more [nameless big donat], that's what.
  2. After a bottle of Absinthe, Time may just tell you Andy. Nice collection EGE.
  3. <sarcasm> eh, you say potato, I say, maybe we should embrace feebl..er Febus' North Korean propaganda signature block and smash imperialist tendencies... You know so everyone can share the wealth.... while everyone starves, because no one actually produces, and everyone praises the work of the "Leaders", and no one notices that most of the population slowly dies off... Ah the joys of a classless society. </sarcasm>
  4. Phantom Blancpr0n I feel your (Blanc)Pain.
  5. Yup. That's why I get paid the big bucks.
  6. :evil2: See what thou hath wrought, Anton? Repli-noobs are bad enough, NOW WE'Z GOTZ US SUM A DEM NERDI-AVI-NEWBZ.. Actually, HI. You're not likely to find a lot of info about Hamilton around here (except maybe for Anton's post) and an occasional posting of someone's Gen watches... But you are welcome to stay, browse around and find out more than you ever wanted to about all the Reps of watches you love that are available.. Just not Hamilton. At least not yet.
  7. How about this one? Notice it's luscious, full, subdial rings with no gaps or ugly chips or fractures around the edges, not to mention the sharp printing and good looking fonts, my oh my, this is nice.... Don'cha just love this one? Real or Rep? Monarch Poley or Montres Rolex? Lemme help out with that one just a little with a bigger, more full close up...
  8. Care to comment on this "twin" and it's dial? Notice, even though this pic is dead on perpendicular to the dial, there are gaps around the subdial's edges, and in fact, the subdials at 3 and 9 sit in recesses that look flat across the top, instead of being a perfectly rounded fit. Real or Rep?
  9. Be nice, you know UB7 is a Daytona Dial expert.
  10. Being, primarily, a Rolex kind of a guy (in case no one noticed yet... ), but a WIS "NIT PICKER" in general, I'd have to say go for the .... O M E G A (choke) R A I L M A S T E R (sigh)
  11. Actually, with the REPs, the subdials usually look better to me. In this pic the watch is rotated slightly back, where I would actually expect to see a bit of gap and splitting exposed along the top of where the subdials are inserted through holes cut through the meteorite slice. This will always be the case with a GEN, as the dial is mechanically SPLIT from a CORE which is DRILLED out of an actual, natural meteorite. Each one is different, with varying amounts of grain, color, streaking, etc... and each one will have different 'faults' and gaps because of the incontrollable part of how the crystalline structure is going to fracture while cutting... You WON'T SEE THIS with most of the REPs, I generally see NO separation as it seems the subdials are embossed on the dial the same as the meteorite-style pattern. What is more telling is that all the markers are lined up properly on the rough surface of the dial. REPs will usually have at least one marker that is noticeably off.
  12. I really like the case and the crown. The movement is pretty standard fare. The bezel itself looks pretty good, but the insert and pearl are not. From this photo, the crystal looks to be the really cheap mineral glass with acid etched crown (hazy blob), not the 'perfect' sharp, but slightly too wide spaced laser etched dots of the better Reps, that are more and more standard these days. Not even going to comment on the dial/dw/rest... I would expect to see this watch going for half that price including EMS from "Hong Kong" on the BAY (but, with a better crystal). Or somewhere roughly around the price you quoted, with the better crystal, a better insert, a nicer dial and the probability of decent after the sale support for problems from the favored dealers around here.
  13. "Notes: This watch comes complete with all the box, manuals, certificate, etc. This is a new model that was just recently released by Rolex and extremely hard to find. Most dealers do not even have this watch in stock. There is currently a waiting list for this watch." TRANSLATION: "We got suckered into taking this monstrosity on trade with a formerly valued client, who unluckily had all the paperwork we were hoping he'd lost when we said we'd trade but only with everything. This is a new model that was just recently released by Rolex and extremely hard to stomach. Most AD's do not even have this watch in stock because they know they can't move it. We hope there is someone stupid enough, with a big enough bank account to take this white elephant off our hands, because we don't want to wait until it's a vintage collectible to get most of our money back out of it."
  14. Definitely a scam, but damn that Meteorite dial Daytona just might be worth $2K as a REP, it is REALLY NICE. I don't really see anything "off" with it, it's too damn good. Now that is a first.
  15. Actually, with that damn nice 'original' looking SRSD (which is now aged a bit too much - only MHO) it is INACCURATE for that reason. The original SRSD 500-1650 were changed out with the crowns and tubes during service, Triplock means deeper, so, new dial... those with Trips are now sporting COMEX, "GW" and, occasionally correctly, the sometime later the "RED OVER GW" which are usually PINK or completely faded now, with those neat little aggravatingly complicated to duplicate serifs we all know and love that the 'original' or REAL, if you will, SRSD dial (the one replicated here) didn't have... And there is at LEAST 1 that survived without "over-mauling", er over-hauling at the spa. (basically any NON-COMEX stood half a chance of surviving unscathed, there are probably a few more in forgotten footlockers, sea bags and wardrobes somewhere in Australia, Italy, France and elsewhere ...) I can even give you the name of the original owner of at least one that survived...
  16. Stephane, not criticizing the unfinished watch or your "network's" work at all, I hope you realize that. Just pointing out what I would like to see remedied.
  17. Doesn't bug me, it bugs everyone else. I would have probably been diagnosed with Aspberger's were I of more recent vintage.
  18. That would depend on one's eyesight my friend... even at 40, mine is still > 20/15, and I am drawn to small details.
  19. Hmmm, 1972~3 Triplock on "1967" watch.... don't think so doc. Yeah, I know the Triplocks were in experimental use barely before the birth of this watch, but definitely not sold then. Yeah, I know you'll find the Triplocks on COMEX's earlier than 1972~3, but those were all serviced and upgraded continually by Rolex (probably what happened to quite a lot of those very early "Single Red" 500-1650 dials, and why there are so few now) Triplock on a "IV 67 - 1665" ... may as well weld CG's to a 6202 or cut a date window in the dial of 6541.
  20. Not accurate, but NICE. One of the Rarest of the Rare. I hope to see it again once it is correct, perhaps a whole series of photos documenting it's transformation... What would be the things I would most expect to see on a rare SRSD, of which there are only a small handfull of known Gens to compare against? TWIN-LOCK CROWN... A more "even" and severe curve to the sides of the case, especially from the CG to Lugs that makes the case seem to disappear behind the bezel and the Lugs more "fine"... Submariner Back with "OYSTER GAS ESCAPE VALVE" and "Patent Pending" engraved around the outside edge, not the more familiar engraving in the center... Smaller Escape Valve at 9. A PROPER VINTAGE BRACELET!!! Your dial, hands and crystal however are almostperfect.
  21. I am certain that yours is as genuine as mine, my friend. And I certainly wouldn't out you were it not. Unfortunately, after picking mine up in Geneva, I must have misplaced it somewhere when visiting Genoa. Right back at you V! (without the beating) Actually, it really wasn't that satisfying Jiro. I didn't want to call the guy out, even with his attitude and poor customer service I can understand a noob trying to 'belong' or 'look the part.' But when he seemed WAY to interested in separating me from the service box through sleight of hand and misdirection, I couldn't help but come to the conclusion that he was simply up to no good. If he didn't get the service box from me, he'd probably eventually get one from someone else more excited to have their precious back from the spa... failing that, I was almost positive after his behavior, that if he couldn't of pieced together a decent provenance for his 'fake,' it was going to end up going out the front door of the AD on someone's unsuspecting wrist. Yeah, I called HIS a fake. Because once you look like you're going to cross that line, that's exactly what it is. It was actually a very nice, highly polished "Super-Rep", the only thing that I could spot (without grabbing his wrist) that wasn't "right" with it was the laser-etched crown in the crystal, and that was damn close.
  22. The last time I met an 'emp' at an AD wearing a Rep he was fired shortly thereafter. Rather new, and condescending, he didn't know who I was, and didn't think that I would notice his Sub was a Rep. He was actually rather snotty when I asked to look at a GMT, and seemed to imply that he didn't think I could afford such a watch when he inquired, "Well. What is that you're wearing there?" without making a move to open the case. So, I took off my comparably cheap Carbon Fiber dialed Croton Chrono and lay it on the counter. He decided on his own he was worthy to pick up my watch, and did so with a bit of sniff and a wrinkled brow. So while he was, I must suppose, inspecting my watch to determine if he thought I was worthy of handling the GMT, or just simply bedazzled by the changing patterns of the dial in the light, I reached in my wallet and pulled out my service ticket for my Sub that was back from Geneva. (which was why I was there in the first place) I laid my service ticket on the counter, where my watch had been, and asked again to examine the GMT, and explained that I would also like to pick up my Sub which was back from it's trip to the spa. Apparently, the fact I allowed him to molest my watch without complaint AND that I had another rather expensive watch of my own in the back room waiting for me wasn't enough to persuade him to allow me to view the GMT. He simply excused himself quickly and practically ran to retrieve my Sub, which he brought back to me while TAKING IT OUT OF THE SERVICE BOX, which he laid down underneath the counter, behind the register.... Hmmm.. He started to hand me my Sub while saying he was SURE I'd want to wear it, whereupon I had to reply, No I don't wish to wear it right now, I wish to try on the GMT that I asked for, AND I wish that you weren't putting your fingerprints on my freshly serviced watch after taking it out of it's box that you shouldn't be opening at all, let alone while walking across the sales floor with it, AND I wish that you hadn't first handled and smeared my other watch while ignoring me while I was waiting for you to retrieve the GMT for me. "But, but.. I'm sorry.." That's ok, you can place MY service box on the counter here, next to my two watches you've handled, and go get YOUR manager to explain to HIM your lack of care and concern for MY property, WHY you don't seem to want to show me that GMT in the case, AND whether or not your plans for my service box included puffing up credibility of that fake sitting on your wrist right now.
  23. Methinks SHE may have trouble locating the US on a globe. "No honey, not your globes, over here... the blue, roundy thingy."
  24. www_watch - Nice. When ya gonna mod it? soonermatt - Dude. Try a more "local" search than Google.
  25. My niche? Stainless Steel GENs. But slowly hammered into the awareness that there are some GENs I will never find. Or if I do find one, the funds will likely be tied up in something else when it appears so that someone else will snatch it away. So, modern - GEN. Vintage - tweek my own super-REPs. Stainless Steel, bracelet. With the occasional YG/WG/PLAT or TT exception. Something even more rare in my niche/collection than OTS (Other Than Stainless)??? Straps.
