McCain picks Alaska Gov. as running mate
southcoast68 replied to southcoast68's topic in The looney bin
Wow, my appologies everyone, didn't mean to start a inflamatory thread, just though it would make good conversation. In the US we all can agree to dis-agree and that is what sets us apart from many others. Of course, conversation of religion and/or politics always brings out the strong opinions in everyone. But as was posted pages before, this has got people talking and thats not a bad thing. Having controversial or colorful personalities in a presidential race is what gets people involved (remember Ross Perot??) and its only when people get involved, get information, make a descision for themselves and vote do we really see our political system in use as designed. Of couse, its when the dust settles and the newly elected administration gets to work will we see any real differences, and with the political machine that is DC, there is only so much we can expect from these folks. So I guess its all cool as long as it does not infringe upon our collective interest in our timepeices and here is hoping we can all get along. Oh BTW - blowjob, [censored], did that work???? Edit: damn, it did work, platinum pays off, lol. Anybody got a cigar?? -
McCain picks Alaska Gov. as running mate
southcoast68 replied to southcoast68's topic in The looney bin
This I do agree with, its been years since the US public has truly cared who runs for office IMO. While I think its a bad idea to turn any election into any worse a media circus than it already tends to be, this choice will get people talking. I know I will be more likely to watch the debates and news coverage than I would have otherwise, and not because Palin is a good looking woman. Now more than previous years its all about the economy, with housing down, un-employment up and the cost of gas, food, clothing and services seemingly going up weekly. When we had Bush senior in office, the economy was in the crapper, the govenment itself could not even have the funds to run itself, un-employment was wide spread (I know, I was standing in those long lines for my un-employment check). We elect Clinton, the first Dem to President in 12 years, and things turned around. After 8 years of Bill, the economy was good, people had jobs and money and the federal budget defacit was about gone. In steps another Bush Rep, after about 8 years, we are again in the same lousy situation as when his old man was in office. Now I personally stay as "no party affiliation" since I prefer to listen to what a candidate has to say as opposed to what side of the field they play for and I also realize that its not so much who is elected, but the peoples perception of how the immediate future will be. This election will be decided by which side has a more convincing argument of how they plan to try and fix what is broken. It won't be about pro life vs pro choice, gay marriage vs conventional marriage, who looks good on camera, etc., it will be about the economy and what they plan to do about it. If in 4 years, economic situation turn around and people can pay the bills again, we will have at least 4 more years of the same. Nanuq, if Palin goes to DC, who replaces her in Alaska? Seems like all you folks up there will really miss her. -
McCain picks Alaska Gov. as running mate
southcoast68 replied to southcoast68's topic in The looney bin
I seem to remember reading that McCain has a history with the beautiful ladies (married a model I beleive), who knows if this had and bearing on the decision (I doubt if it did). Seems like he is aiming for the young vote trying to get any american on his side who would appreciate a good looking head strong female candidate. Seems ironic (not) that Obama, a freshman senator with limited global policy experiance picks a running mate who has been in DC politics for a long time, and McCain, a long time political figure, does just the opposite. One thing for sure, the world will be finding out a lot more of Alaska's governor over the comming months. All I can say is......................pass the popcorn. -
I don't think many folks saw this comming............ http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/29/pal...date/index.html

In your google earth "fly to" search bar, type "AMARC" and search. It will bring you over the aircraft boneyard just outside Tuscon AZ. Zoom in a little and take a look at those facilities!!! Amazing number of aircraft stored there and they all look like toys.

Who's selling this cali dial with Rolex movement for $5K?
southcoast68 replied to old skool's topic in The Panerai Area
Personally, I never would have had the heart to take apart that nice pocket watch just to make some Panerai homage. That one inparticular had a nice engraved case as well as the 1/4 century club dial. It once was someones acheivement award and a shame to see such a thing go to peices. Just my .02. -

Ubiquitous always amazes me with his franken projects and his photography. To all of the above, thanks for the forum, the camaraderie, the information and all the laughs along the way. You folks are the best!!!!!!!! -
Here is another alternative for you, a Sandoz Submariner. Such as this one, Ebay item no. 140260515135

Hi all Got some free time during tropical storm Fay's visit to Florida, so I got out the camera and took some pics. These are the vintage watches of the fleet, enjoy. 1. Stainlees Steel Rolex franken-Just - I built this one a while back using a case set obtained from a NAWCC show, a dial from the 'Bay, and movement and hands from a rep turn-o-graph. I liked the red date numbers so I left them even though they would be incorrect, and they all line up perfectly. I had to sand down a nylon movement spacer ring from Borel to get the movement to fit the case (PITA!!). Came out pretty good and keeps great time. Pictured with a rep Jubilee bracelet. 2. Two Tone Rolex franken-Just - I built this one at about the same time as its brother using a case set from member roling on the 'Bay and a dial from the 'Bay, with aftermarket Tudor gold hands, a date wheel overlay from Cubic-Works, and a movement from another Omega rep that had problems. Pictured here with a rep Jubilee bracelet. 3. Rolex Comex Sea-Dweller - Got this one from a now defunked vendor at RWI. The case and bezel are really too thin, but I love the dial and how smooth it runs. This one is still available from many of our current vendors. 4. Rolex Double Red Sea Dweller - Got this one used too, its an MBK case with an ETA movement. Its also totally un-modified. 5. Rolex GMT Master - The only gen Rolex I have now, I bought it about 14 or 15 years ago, it has a rather unusual dial (smaller hour markers) and pointed crown guards case. This is the one that stars in my signature. 6. Rolex Explorer II Orange hand - Got this one from the same vendor I got the Comex from. It is a real looker and has a nice wrist presence. 7. Rolex Day-Date experimental - Originally a cheap asian rep, I wanted to see if I could do a vintage Day-Date by installing a gen pie-pan dial and a tall plastic crystal. It is still a work in progress. 8. Rolex Red Submariner 1680 - Got it from another RWG member a little while ago, its a nicely modded and aged piece that runs perfectly. 9. Rolex Submariner 5513 - Obtained through Silix, this one has been an excersise in case modding for me as well as a little aging work. I think it came out pretty good. Thats the vintage peices I have right now. Whats next?? Don't quite know, but I'd like to build a Tudor Submariner sometime soon and at some point, I'd like to shoot for the stars and build a franken-tona 'a-la El Primero. Thanks for watching. Cheers

Hi all Well tropical storm Fay drowned out my day, so I figured I'd get out the camera and share the collection with you all. Here are all the chronographs and faux chronos currently in the fleet, first the group shot. 1. Fortis Cosmonauts Chrono - got it used at a NAWCC show years ago, did not get all the cool swag you get with a Fortis chrono though ; 2. Rolex Daytona 6263 - Originally from Josh, it is a real workhorse with its Seagull ST-19 (Venus copy); 3. Rolex Daytona 6263 Exotic dial - Originally from Josh, it also has the Seagull ST-19 and compliments the other 6263 brilliantly; 4. Rolex Daytona seconds at 9 - Obtained used from another forum member, it is a A7750 with seconds at 9, subdials spaced way too far apart, and a way too big case, but its a nice watch just the same; 5. Rolex Daytona seconds at 6 - Got it from Josh a few years ago and it is a beauty, and thankfully (knock wood) still running fine; 6. TAG Heuer Aquaracer chrono - bought it used from a member of another forum (and got a crazy good deal too), this watch is beautiful!! A date wheel swap is in its future; 7. Panerai 253 Regatta Flyback - got it used a while back, when I took it out of the package I about fell over, this thing is awesome!! Someday I might repaint the blue chrono hand to be closer to gen. 8. Breitling Chronomat Evolution - got this one in trade over at RWI last year, the bezel rider tabs are [censored] as well as the date wheel, but I like it - a lot. Its amongst the smoothest running A7750 chonos I have and I love its wrist presence; 9. Flying Tigers chrono ( ) - got it at a NAWCC show earlier this year for $70, has a wrist presence that is almost Rolex like, and has a beautiful blue dial to boot. Oh yeah - its also quartz; 10. Omega Speedmaster Michael Schumacher edition - got this one from Trevor over at RWI last fall, all I can say is wow, what a nice watch, works perfectly too. I am planning on a review of this somewhat overlooked piece since I think it deserves some recognition; 11. Omega Speedmaster Moon Faux chrono - Got this one used too, sorry everyone, but even the old factory rep of this one is still not nearly good enough to satisfy me, so until I do get the gen, this one will suffice; 12. Omega Planet Ocean chrono - Got this one from trusty time, I opted for the quartz model here as I think the subdial spacing is more beleiveable, besides, its mighty handy to have a ready to go quartz on hand at times; 13. RXW Daytona faux chrono - Got it used a couple of weeks ago, this one has a case profile much like a gen Daytona - slim with a not to conical a bezel. It does need a thicker crystal IMO, and I often wonder if this could be changed into something more interesting ; 14. Swatch Irony chrono - bought it new about 9 years ago, rarely wear it anymore although its a good looking watch, another quartz powered machine; 15. Unfinished project - I am working on finishing this one soon, its got a ETA 7750 I got from ajoesmith a while back and a case and dial kit from Ebay. I just need to decide what style of hands I want to use (ones on there now are just to test the movement, and yeah - it runs flawlessly!!); Thats the chrono lot, hope you enjoyed the pics. Its rare I get an afternoon to just play with the camera. BTW - all of the reps here are unmodified, not even a service, and all run real good which is a good testiment to how good these watches can be. I know they should be serviced if I want them to run trouble free for the long haul, but when they are in the rotation, each get no more than a week at a time usage. Whats next?? Planning on a TAG Heuer Carrera next in addition to a Breitling Skyland and another Rolex Daytona (thanks RWG ) Cheers

New Gen Rolex DeepSea Sea-Dweller 43mm case
southcoast68 replied to Defender110's topic in The Rolex Area
Now if those pics do not put the size of the Deep Sea into perspective, I don't know what will!! -
The coronet logo looks wrong, I'd say it was aftermarket made to fit V72 or a redial.

These have always been my favorite CN jokes; Chuck Norris is 1/8th Cherokee. This has nothing to do with ancestry, the man ate a f*cking Indian. There is no chin behind Chuck Norris' beard. There is only another fist. Chuck Norris can impregnate a woman 50 feet away by pointing at her and yelling "booya"

Is this site related to Brand9Avenue.com??

With a lot of the watches on peoples wish list for 2008 actually happening (Concord C1, APROO sec at 12, Zenith Defy extreme, et al), how about this one: The Breitling Colt Cockpit mens size. Since we now have a Skyland that is virtually perfect, why not this one. How many Breitling folks want to see this one?? Rep gods, are you watching?? (pictures from Breitling website)

I actually have this very same replica that pfran posted pictures of. I got it used from another member over at RWI (I forget where he said it originally came from). I will say this, its a nice looking rep, but take a look at the date window, its too square and too far to the right, which is why the previous owner did not keep it. I got it for cheap, so I figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot. My camera stuff is put away, but I'll try to post pics of it if you like tomorrow night. While it is much like the SSD, its not quite there, the crystal is of good height, but it does not have the right chamfering on the crystal edge like the SSD (which may be why the rehaut looks different), and it does have good dial printing, but not as good as the dial printing on the SSD. There is not much I could do about the date window issue, so I UV glued a cyclop over it and made it look like a pseudo Submariner and that works for me. I have held it next to a SSD and I still like the SSD better, but its your call if you want to chance a vendor outside the recomended ones here and at the other forums. Like I said, I got into this one by chance used. Oh, and also, mine has an ETA (or at least a movement stamped ETA) in it, and it runs very smooth and keeps real good time. Happy hunting...

I just read that and laughed so hard I scared the living daylights out of my wife, poor girl. Hope you feel better soon corgi...

Wow, I usually come on line here and there during the day when I can. When could not this afternoon (RWG down I guess??), it was like "holy hell what is going on now..." . Now its back and I am whole again , these forums are like water and air for me lately. Just like to express my appreciation for all the folks here and for the hobby at large. Cheeers

Amen to that brother!!!!!!!!

I was recently reading that the reason PanAm had the white dial versions made was that the executives were keeping the GMTs' meant for the flight and ground crew for themselves. I guess they felt like they should have a nice watch since the pilots and crew got the cool planes to fly in. Anyway, it seems that when the news of this got back to who ever was in charge of that program, he ordered the watches be returned to the flight crews and then ordered the white dial ones to give to the executives to satisfy them. The pictures below are not mine, the first was on Ebay HK and was labeled a "redialed GMT" from a place selling replacement bakelite bezels, the second picture is of the real deal. Man I want to build one of these at some point. How difficult would it be to get GMT dials made in white anyway??
-
Well, this one was sold for $24,961 which is lots of $$ for a watch, but still a good deal since the vintage Rollie market is going nowhere but up these days.
-
Even if that Daytona had faux chronos and looked that good, you bet I would too!!!!!!

At the end of their Daytona section, I found this; Not a very big pic, but you can see what is a most horrible rep. I find it odd that this site can post pictures of amazing stuff, yet can also stick in a clinker such as this one. Freddy, please do keep us posted if you find out anything else, but do be cautious as, IMO, any vendor picturing Date Justs with the older "pie pan" dials, Omega speedy moons with correct sub dial spacing, vintage peices with damn near perfect patina, and then some real dogs here and there just makes me wanna cry foul.
