  1. This Tudor Sub rep looks very similar to what memeber madmacs69 had post ed about earlier this year, see here http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...riner&st=40 At the time he/she had obtained a couple of samples and posted pics, they were to be about $500 - $600 and I wonder if Chris's rep is from the same source. Madmacs69 has not been here since June appparently, but it's tempting to send a PM to try and find out more. Since Eurotimez is a source for MBW/MBK, can this be sourced through them? If it is indeed a MBW/MBK type case, then Chris got a great deal on it. Cheers
  2. I kinda hope they never rep the Doxa Sub, you know they will screw up many of the details and when they get even more popular due to rep exposure, the genuine prices will go crazy keeping mere mortals like myself from being able to afford one . Seriously, the Doxa is a beauty, with great history as well. Only a rep of "super" quality would do.
  3. Valid point, but it may not make much difference to Rolex itself. Their target clients are mostly folks who won't mind paying the increase since they have the money anyway and their clients span the globe. Recent financial trouble in the US, even when it does effect other countries, will still not directly effect some of the worlds most hardcore collectors. I don't see a trend anytime soon where the vintage models fall in value (truly fall, not considering the recent bubble in the vintage market, Rolex will always hold or appreciate in value), and i don't think that their new products will tank either. Could be better for them since fewer folks would be able to afford their products therefore making them even more exclusive to the wealthy. Of course, I would never discourage anyone from buying a gen. If you have the capital and can justify the price, go for it, there is something special about owning a gen of your favorite brand that a rep will never provide. I just think that $5k plus for a Exp I is a little much (common people, really). I wonder what an Air-King is going for now .
  4. Their name and marketing, of course
  5. Uber cool!!!!!!!!! Please let us know how this works out.
  6. Three definite things in life; death, taxes, and Rolex raising their prices every October for no good reason. They have no price for the TT Daytona, they could not have discontinued it, what would they push at a customer when they find out that to get a SS Daytona, they need to wait a year or more. After all, that precious steel they use can only come from the finest steel ingots, packed in the finest silk and delivered to the factory by armed guards. Then each Daytona is carefully assembled by hand, a process that takes a year to do, bla bla bla. Sorry, love the brand Rolex, always will, but I do not agree with their pricing or thier hype.
  7. The two I pictured are both Seagull ST-19s', manual wind. They are both workhorses that run flawlessly and they were from Joshua a few years ago or so. If you can get by the fact that they have symetric pushers and that the 6 'oclock subdial moves with the hour hand (this subdial can be frozen at 12 'oclock, but I never bothered), I would highly recommend one (or two ). @Ubi, youre killing me with those photos, but do keep them comming, they are a joy to look at!!
  8. A sad day indeed, the loss of a true icon. RIP Paul Newman. Here are my 2 PNs'

  10. I still do listen to anything and everything "sleep with one eye open, gripping your pillow tight..................."
  11. Awesome information!!!!!!!!! Thank You!!!
  12. I hope this does not mean that Omega is going to discontinue the original self wind speedy moon
  13. Welcome aboard, enjoy your stay!!
  14. Here are a few more, their story is here http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=82621 And, this one, which is still readily available for cheap, and it does bear a resemblance to some other famous pocket watch movements.
  15. Hi all Recently, my mom has passed down to me and my brother some family artifacts that have been kept put away. My brother got my grandfathers gold ruby ring amongst some other antique jewelry items. My mom knowing I collect timepieces, figured I would take good care of these, and so I was presented with the following box. The box is obviously not original, it was just a good place to keep these; The group shot; First is a small size pocket watch with what looks like a home made embroidered band of some sort. This was my mom's when she was a girl. I cannot determine the maker as the name on the dial is hard to read, but it may be swiss. It does not work, and the crown does not turn, so I cannot position the hands to better read whats printed on the dial. Can anyone here identify this watch?? Second is my grandmother's watch, a mid-sized Waltham in a beautiful 14k gold case with her initials engraved on the back. The dial is perfect as is the blued hands, and the case is also in great shape. It does not work, but the crown turns and the hands can be adjusted. Its movement is beautifully decorated. Last is my grandfather's watch, a beautiful Elgin full size pocket watch in a gold filled Wadsworth screw back case (which states on the inside back cover "Warranted 25 years" ). There is some dirt under the crystal but is in otherwise great shape. Sadly it also does not run, but the crown turns and the hands are adjustable. I took a couple extra shots of this one since the movement decoration is incredible. Fine printing of Elgin National Watch Co. in old-english style lettering and the cyclonic pattern on the gears as well as the decorations on the plates make this a joy to have even if it does not work. All three still have their crystals intact and someday they will be telling time once again. Thanks for looking. Cheers
  16. Using the units per hour scale on a Daytona to see how long it takes for my garden hose to fill a gallon bucket, thereby getting the "gallon per hour" flow rate. I also attribute this behavior to working with engineers all day.
  17. @Nanuq Yes, I also beleive this dial to be a transitional. Just in between where they lost the outer minute ring and glossy finish and where the other matte dial with the larger markers being farther out came in. I have never had this one apart, but I wonder what the back of the dial says, Singer, Beyeler, Stern?? I have been meaning to go through VRF's dial data base to see if there are any other pictures of it.
  18. Nanuq, that dial looks familiar, I wonder where I have seen one like that before??
  19. Absolutely incredible, congrats!!!!!!!!! Now this is what I'm talking about, a real work of art!!!!!!! Also, don't touch that dial!!!!! there is nothing wrong with it, as stated above, its an early MKI dial with "slab serif" Rolex logo and "goofy looking crown" and totaly belongs here, however, I would change out the second hand from the bubble version to the straight version that it would have had as an early model. Congrats again, it is....................
  20. , nice... I can concur, the last time my GMT was serviced, it cost me about $625!! and I was quoted over $800 for a new stainless bracelet for it (oh, and I had to return the original to Rolex ) Needless to say, it will not be going back to a Rolex AD ever again.
  21. My thoughts exactly!!!!!!!
  22. Oddy enough, it was the watchuseek forum that got me in touch with RWG1 years back. They were having an argument on whether a photo someone posted was of a gen or rep and how wrong it was to even start such a thread. One post in the thread read something like "take a look at what these folks think of this thread..." and posted a link to RWG1. To their credit, it looks like some of their members have a rather balanced view of the topic of rep vs gen. One member posted "When rolex has models pushing $50,000, its obvious that millions of replicas would be created. Rolex is asking for it." I Agree with that to an extent, but apply it to the entire luxury watch industry. Better for them to see RWG for what it is, a bunch of watch geeks that love talking about timepeices no matter who made them or where they come from and where some reps are truly the best form of flattery and really are works of art. Cheers
  23. I for one think that this is a great effort on the part of the rep makers. Say what you want about the details, this is a watch that most of the world has only just begun to see for real and no doubt there will be many updates of this one as it goes along. So lets take a look at this one and make our own list of things to improve upon. 1. Case size - needs to be thicker and the lugs and crown guards need to be a bit "squarer" on the edges. I suppose in the rep world, its easier and faster to use existing SD (or GMT IIc) case stock and do some little tweaks. The case on this one will be the biggest item since it is proprietory to this model Rolex only. 2. Dial - I am suprised the dial has the correct wording and close fonts at this stage! Seems like the minute markers are too far from the edge of the dial. They are probably using existing dial stock at this point which will make it look smaller than it should on a bigger case. 3. Hands - it needs "maxi" hands a la Submariner LV. 4. Case back - gen case back is titanium making it a darker color in the center. While I dont expect titanium on a rep, maybe a bead blasted center area of the case back would do the trick. 5. Rehaut - as much as I hate the "Ring Lock System" Gas Escape Valve" blurb on the watch, I guess we'd need it for a faithful replica. So this wording needs to be a bit smoother and filled in with black. The rehaut also needs the RolexRolexRolex engraving as well. 6. Date font - looks like the standard Asian offering, maybe future versions will carry a date wheel more like in the Noob Submariners. Thats all I see at first glance, lets have the other folks weigh in and addd to the list. Thanks for the review!!! Also, how is the bezel insert?? Does it do the gen ceramic bezel any justice??
  24. Here is another one of those stories, althought its on a quite smaller scale that some others told here. This is also of personal experience. Last fall I was at a local flea market (yes, a flea market) and was looking for something cool. This particular flea market has some rather nice watch dealers. One had a few nice pieces and among them was a Wakmann chronograph, stainless steel with a black dial and white subdials. I took a closer look, I liked it, but I was looking for something Omega that day and wanted to stick by my guns. I asked how much and got the reply "ehh $400". I did not quite have enough on me, I was interested but finally decided to wait on buying anything for another day. I did recognise the name but was fuzzy on its history (did not know that they were in part related to Breitling years ago). Here is where I screwed up, I did not recognise this watch right away as being a V72C (C for calendar). This movement added a day, date and month complication to the chronograph and is the same movement used by many back in the day (names like Vulcain, Certina, Enicar and yes...Rolex). That night I made the mistake of looking it up on Ebay and other sites and realised I could have sold it over for $1500 +/-. That flea market was closed during the week, but I went back the following Saturday only to find the watch gone. Of course, thinking back, I liked it just enough that I would have probably kept it in the collection and not have made any monetary profit from it. Oh well, life goes on.
  25. A couple years ago, one vendor known as TTK offered a Submariner as an entry-level model for a lower price. It was called the "Noobmariner" since it was a good model for a "Noob" to the hobby to get because of its price. It turns out that this model of rep Submariner is one of the best the hobby has seen due to its fantastic dial printing and date wheel as well as other various attributes. However, it is still a rep and has its shortcommings, but has helped many others build better Submariner projects by mixing better made Sub cases with the Noob's dial and date wheel. The factory that makes this rep is also known for making many other top notch reps of other watch brands, and since the "Noobmariner" name stuck, everything that comes from this factory is reffered to as comming from the "Noobfactory". Noobfactory reps are available from many different vendors here. The vendor mentioned above (TTK) is no longer in operation here as many folks had problems dealing with him, so do your due dilligence and be cautions. Happy hunting
