  1. 99% of the population at large would not even notice if you wear a watch at all, never mind what brand it is or if it is a rep or not. Just wear a rep the same way you wear any other watch. If anyone treats you badly for wearing a rep, they probably are not worth your time anyway. A lot of folks I work with know I collect watches, a lot of them reps, and they don't treat me any different, I've even converted some of them. Just to share a story relating to those who can afford gens and what they think of reps (heck, we have a lot of gen owning rep fans here). A while back, a collegue of mine was having a meeting with one of our clients and his business partner, a wealthy client and his wealthy business partner. During the meeting they noticed my collague wearing his SS black dial Daytona rep that I got for him and complimented him on it. He told them it was a copy and they did not beleive it, so my guy said "come on back, there is someone I want you too meet". We were introduced and talked watches for a bit, the client and his partner asked where I get reps from and I showed them Joshua's website, they were thrilled. They were impressed with the range of brands and said they just may buy reps from now on instead of spending big money on gens. One of them was wearing his genuine SS black dial ElPrimero Daytona, and he confided in me that "this watch always kept crappy time", lol. Just goes to show, when you are into watches, youre into watches, no matter who made 'em. Enjoy your collection, be they gen or rep!! No matter wha they say at timezone or watchuseek, you do what is right for you.
  2. He said there is "a reasonable" reserve on this auction, I wonder what it could be?? Like 2 grand Common, this thing is a peice of landfill already. If he is so sure it can be restored, then why doesn't he go for it?? Its amazing the trash some folks are selling on Ebay nowadays, and just because it "says" its a Rolex.
  3. Hi I don't know which year Rolex started using the "Presidential" bracelet on ladies models (style B ), but I think they always offered both the "Jubillee" style (style A) as well as the Presidential on ladies models concurrently for a while now. The RolexRolex engraving on the rehaut started on 2006 models I beleive. The model you show looks pretty accurate, although it would help with a straight on shot. Knowing that Rolex makes many different configurations including custom dials, the model you pictured looks very covincing IMO. Hope this helps.
  4. Its probably my eyes, but look at the second picture. It kinda looks like the minute hand is glued to the underside of the crystal.
  5. I for one would love to see a faux chrono rep of this watch. Done with a more correct looking slimmer case, correct looking dial with the close together subdials. If one were done that was real clean looking, even if it were not a real chrono, I'd buy one for sure. Of course it would probably not satisfy my hunger to build a real ElPrimero version, but it would be a nice alternative until I do. How about it rep makers??
  6. Damn, that IS a cool looking one. I am on the lookout for a POLJOT JAK-7 chrono, but can't seem to find one. Its a shame that there are so many great brands out there, but only a privlaged few get big time recognition. BTW-I also have a MOLNIJA Russian pocket watch, like brand new I got at a "Flea Market" about 10 years ago.
  7. It measures about 42mm across the bezel, not including the crown, and about 13mm thick.
  8. We appreciate you here rodwc!! Like the others said, keep doing what you know is right.
  9. I think it all depends on what QC issues one experiences. Some folks point out issues with a mis-aligned pearl, or a date font not being just right, all of these IMO are not really QC issues, just par for the course in reps. However, receiving a watch with a messed up crown and tube, bezel falling off, stripped bracelet screws, doa movement, hands falling off, IS well worthy of complaint. Some reps today cost well over the $300 dollar mark, and for that, they SHOULD at least be in one peice when you get them. Now with that being said, we must always remember that this hobby deals with items that are illegal in most places on earth, and that buying reps is akin to playing the lottery sometimes, sometimes you win - sometimes you loose. Based on this, we reailize that getting real good QC from most dealers is a pipe dream, especially from the ones who drop ship. Of course, the dealers that DO carry out QC checks on what they sell usually have a better track record with thier customers, so it all comes back to "pick your dealer - then pick your watch" Of course, the high cost of some reps and thier QC (or lack thereof), is a direct result of what we the consumers are willing to pay. Paying close to a grand for a HBB is crazy as far as I am concerned, but to each his own, some folks will go down that road for a super rep, and the dealers know that. Therefore, QC falls by the wayside in favor of getting the order out, they know that we will pay for another one at some point no matter what. It could be as simple as the dealer looking the watch over, unscrewing the crown, winding, setting the time and date, and letting it run for a few hours. Those are the same steps I run on a new watch I get and in just the first 5 minutes that it is in my hand, I will find out if there is anything severely wrong, and so would they, as they toss the bad one aside and ship a good one to thier PAYING CUSTOMER. So, IMO, a few minutes in the dealers hands for a basic once over would go along way to prevent the shipment of a watch that is already falling apart in some way, but if it is dropped shipped, forget about it, QC won't happen. Anyone getting a defective watch, especially after paying a few hundred bucs, should get a replacement from the dealer, or at lease some assistance in getting it right. If a dealer does what I consider to be a reasonable effort to fix a problem, I have no complaint. If they don't make an effort, I do not return to them, period. Make no mistake about it, a lot of these watches are manufactured for a fraction of what we pay for them, there is a large markup and therefore a dealer replacing a watch should be no hardship on them, especially if they have close contact with the factory. In most cases, it is most productive to get a break on price with your next order, of course, if your not satisfied, does that matter? I am not likely to return to a bad restaurant just because they offered me free food on my next visit. I also buy a lot of used peices from other members, as others suggested. Usually, any problems it may have had may have already been resolved, either way, I save money over the cost of a new one. Something to consider in the world of reps, our little wild wild west. Peace
  10. Hi all I figured I'd take a break this month from the reps for a nice gen. Nothing really expensive, but cool looking anyway. I got this beauty from the 'Bay for around $170, its factory reconditioned with a 2 year warranty. The Vostok Europe Expedition 2006, a real nice looking GMT/Date watch in solid stainless. Movement is a Vostok 32 jewel automatic, screw down crown and case back, water resistant to 10ATM. Nice lume on the dial and hands as well as a nice black leather band. Granted, its not a Rollie, but I think its damn nice for the price. Not the first Russian gen in my collection and probably won't be the last. Enjoy the pics.
  11. Originally it came with a 390, along the way it got a 428 and thats how I got it. 428 c.i., 4bbl on a aluminum police interceptor intake, C6 Auto, 9" rear (not posi). I swear the thing could pull my house off of its foundation!! One hell of a fun ride. And Kudos to all the rest of the motorheads in the house!!
  12. A few pics of my "monster". I also have a 2007 pony edition 'Stang.
  13. I agree 100%

  15. Yep, that's a good one too. How about "Rattrapante" (god, did I even spell that correctly )
  16. IMO you all do excellent in your mods. I have just started modding and building myself and I am realizing how difficult some things can be to reproduce. Click the link below to see some quick shots of my GMT and its story. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=44796&hl= XRT, your collection is first rate!!
  17. I have a genuine pointed CG GMT and it has the big arrow hand, but I always thought that the hands had been replaced at some point as part of a service from Rolex.
  18. That is how I honestly pronounce those terms, and I too am curious if I am accurate or not. BTW - as far as I am concerned, there is only one way to pronounce OMEGA and that is "O-MAY-GA".
  19. Excellent job!!!! Well done, gotta loved that small arrow GMT hand
  20. ebauche = e-bosh tourbillon = tour-be-yon perlage = pearl-age rehuat = re-haut How did I do??
  21. So sorry to hear of your loss. I never had a pet until my wife and I got Mollie (Welsh Pembroke Corgi) a couple of years ago (see avatar), now I can't imagine life around the house without her. Mollie is prone to seizures and I often worry if a day would ever come when she would not recover from a spell. We recently added Sookie to the family (Shiloh Shepard), and even though we are trying to get through her puppy stages, she is a real goof ball and fits in real good with the rest of us. Here is quick pic of "The Goon Squad": Stay strong, your beloved is in a better place. Take care
  22. Awesome!! Congratulations and good luck with your project!!
  23. You guys are killing me with all these great Daytona parts that I can't afford
  24. THE man to ask on this would be Ubiquitous (he has built two of these projects, and they are simply beautiful), he would be one of the resident experts. It does appear that the dial you pictured is an original Rolex dial and not a re-dial, the re-dial ones differ slightly in the color of the subdial rings (the original Rolex ones are more cream color than bright white and their numbers are a little bolder as well) and the coronet at 12 looks correct on the pic you posted. I had seen the for sale ad for this dial and I think the asking price is very good comparing with what they sell for on Ebay. If I had the cash, I may have snapped it up myself. I also want to build one of these but the cost of the project is a little out of my reach right now. Good luck with this project, keep us posted with pictures!! Cheers
  25. I like this idea, put me down for one please. Thanks
