  1. Hi all pam lovers!

Here is some pictures of my modded pam 040 that I am quite happy with.

Case is old school from 2005-2006

    Crown is T-48

    Caseback from Jakob

Please let me know what You think about it!

And I got my Pam 026K Yesterday, and I must say it is VERY nice as I was a little unsure if I would like this DLC coating!

  2. Why? Because the display caseback of the 177M showcases the cheap, low-beat 6497 movement, which is not accurate to the gen. Also, the finishing on the asian movements will never be quite as good as the gen.

A closed caseback will hide these deficiencies, and in the case of the 005K, the caseback is accurately replicated as well.

Not to knock the 177's, they are great watches in pretty much all respects, but if you're strictly concerned with accuracy, the 005K is the way to go.

The 005 IS VERY nice. BUT the caseback engraving is way to shallow and it will only take a second to see if it is a fake pam that is the problem with the replicas that they ALWAYS miss something.

DSN has deeper engraving but the rest is a lot worse than the Hublot factorypams.

  3. Dani,

I do not know about where you are but the panerai AD's here in the US such as tourneau and the like could not tell ANY watch on perfect clones from the real deal. At columbus circle here in NYC they are complete morons. Low paid people working on commission that usually know nothing about watches. Some of the stuff I hear them tell other potential buyers is comedy gold.

Even at the panerai boutique here I have had them misdescribe which movements are in which watches and tell me the 111 is a 005 etc etc etc....

That is beside the point, I do not care about being "called out" I just know what I like and what i do not like.

I like this watch but the AR and crystal do not pop like the gen. My wife can tell this, my co workers see this and most importantly I see it. It is still one of the best pam reps around.

We had 3 watches at work last night my 26k rep, a 111h gen and a 176k gen. I asked 3 non watch people the differences in the "glass" and "dial". 2 people asked if the 26k had a grey dial. That pretty much sums it up. It is washed out from weak AR.

My point to all this, the maker has done so much to make these better but he needs to get a better source for AR.

I do not know if the AR is not so good on the new hublot pams BUT the color of the dials is NOT the same as the genuine pams :whistling:

The 111J and 219 and 177L ALL has to much grey/brown in the color where the genuine is way more BLACKISH!

And the surface is also to shiny on all of the above mention pams ( maybe not the 111J that has almost the right structure on the surface!)

But IF You want Your pam to relly genuine the ONLY way is to buy a GENUINE one B)

  4. The DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) process creates a thin surface carbon layer made up of amorphous (non-crystalline) carbon atoms. If they were crystalline, the surface would be clear - like a diamond :)

In terms of mechanical toughness, the surface is very tough. If you took a metal key and scratched the surface, the scratches are the key being eroded by the DLC. Of course, if continued, the coating will eventually be rubbed off as well.

The coating is not very thick, so the steel underneath which is relatively soft, still deforms under impact. But light scratches should be easily polished out by licking your finger and running it over the offending area, no sweat.

I'm investigating TiAlN as a possible surface coating, combines the toughness of Titanium AND Ceramic, it's used for certain high strength coatings and has a deep lustre which looks IMHO better than DLC. We'll see where it goes...

Thanks a lot for that VERY nice information :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Now I maybe MUST buy the new :whistling: 026K

  5. It's the genuine DLC process, so it will be very tough... but any DLC coated watch can be scratched if scraped or smashed on a sharp, hard surface like metal, diamonds, rocks, etc...

It can also be dinged, as the metal is the same basic hardness, so if you bump it against a hard surface, or drop it, it will be dented.

If you scratch any DLC coated watch deeply enough, the steel will surely show through and can not be polished out, the same as with any genuine watch.

    Thanks for the info B)
