  1. I would not encourage anyone to do this. This particular watch is largely Gen or OEM quality at all exterior points (crystal, case, crown, etc.) and assembled by Ziggy so it achieves a good seal. And I don't normally swim in leather straps but the Incursores are supposed to be water resistant so I couldn't resist trying it. I did rinse the strap in tap water after swimming to avoid that chlorine smell. I just figured I had to try old school but I don't recommend it for others. My normal swim watch is on a bracelet. And Wolf- My watch wasn't on the driveway. I don't have one.
  2. Took the 4B out for a swim today. Went with the classic Dirk Incursore leather strap rather than a mamby pamby rubber one. Real men don't puss out and swap out leather for rubber - at least not real men with OEM PVD coating. This one has gen dial, hands, crystal and crown, jimmy case and cg with retrofitted lever, 6497-2 movement and of course the old school Dirk strap.
  3. Sorry to hear of all your travails. I come upon these disaster scenarios every once in a while and have a couple of thoughts. First, if you have a continuing interest in mechanical watches and how they work - stick around. I have spent a good amount of time on the gen forums and have to say the basic knowledge base here is exceptional. Definitely take a breather or permanent hiatus from reps. If you do decide to dip your toe in the water again than buy one directly from a trusted member. My own experience has been better than yours with probably one in ten having a real problem. But most of my purhases were years ago and I suspect quality control was better.
  4. The topic was pussy magnet - not impress a girl. I still say go with Gold.
  5. Now just waiting on the CNC shop to free up to look at the piece and give me a quote for laser scanning, prototype, etc. These projects are never big enough that a CNC shop will stop what else they are doing so we have to be patient.
  6. I haven't looked at the Honpo site in years. Still the same 7753 187. Functionality is good but everything else is bad. All aspects of the case are inferior. The date pusher is ridiculously large relative to gen, He valve should be engraved "HE" rather than raised lettering. And the fact that the 7753 dial doesn't really fit in the original accurate 7750 cases tells you that everything is just off. IMHO, better off with a good 7750 and you can take the extra money and buy a couple of other watches.
  7. Gen. The seller, Vanni, only sells gen items. But remember the gen 202 has ti case and ss bezel.
  8. I am with JustAsGood on this one. IMHO, it is an excellent out of the box rep of a $10-15k vintage masterpiece. To do a lot better you are going to have to outlay a multiple of the cost of this rep. I am appreciative of the constructive comments but also of our tendency to have champagne tastes on a beer budget.
  9. Very nice. It looks good but you are too funny. Assuming the whole watch is a gen. Just get a new cg and either save the old one for another project or sell it.
  10. M- Gorgeous watch. Too big a watch for my wrist but it is stunning. Wear it well. I gotta say though, I don't think I have ever seen Theo that excited.
  11. Great watches. Wear them well.
  12. Honpo never made a 7753 version. Our regular dealers all had/have the 7753. The trade off is that the case on the 7753 is inferior to the 7750. That was why I went to the trouble to fit the dial and movement into an old case.
  13. Be forewarned that a number of the 2836 version cases do not allow for proper alignment of the crown with the case tube. So proceed carefully. I know of at least one member who ended up trying 2-3 cases without any luck.
  14. Honpo vs. 7753 Cartel case-you can guess which is which
  15. I am a huge fan. Although it is long gone to another forum member here is one I did years ago using the 7753 dial and movement fitted into the original legendary Honpo case:
  16. Bracelet looks great. Very impressive! I am eagerly awaiting one myself and wondering if I can fit in a 1030 or 1520/30 underneath that beautiful see-through case back. Waiting to see if it is worthy of a movement. 1030 is my favorite movement aesthetically with the cut-out rotor but I suspect the 1520/30 is more likely to fit. Most importantly, stunning work by PB and you.
  17. If you give us a hint as to what you and your girlfriend like to do I may be able to be helpful. As for horological vices I suggest what I call the 1.5 hour watch tour (but I suggest you wear a gen). In an hour and a half you can cover quite a bit. Within 2-3 blocks of each other are boutiques for Panerai, FM, AP, Montblanc, Jacob (if so inclined), and one of the grande dame watch stores of all time - Wempe. Tourneau and Cellini are in the same area. Turn in the other direction and six blocks up are Breguet,Chopard, FP Journe, etc. Head South for a few blocks and you can hit 47th Street which is a whole other kettle of fish but carries all the higher end folks in various shops and sizes in addition to the regular stuff. Everything from Uhrwerk, Ulysses Nardin, etc.
  18. Think precious metals boys. A girl loves jewelry.
  19. Oops, I misread. We are talking about a 27A not a 28. In which case any ss watch with a JV strap on it will give you a good sense.
  20. Congrats. It is a beautiful piece. I am eagerly awaiting a piece myself.
  21. I had a simiar idea as I thought it would be a very cool combo. If anyone has a PVD with the JV it would give you a good idea. Unfortunately I am in your boat - curious but never having seen the combination.
