Of course it depends. Some of the more dicier movements do often need servicing. I certainly agree not to do anything until you decide whether the watch is a keeper. If you have spent $500 for an AP ROO and know it is a keeper than I would get it serviced. if you Have bought an inexpensive rep and are unsure leave it alone. Servicing can be expensive. A 7750 chrono is not cheap to service ($250 plus) I would guess. A simple two or three hand may be only $50. Whatever you do buy check a review before you buy it. It can save you a lot of heartache.

Thanks. But actually I opted for the S8. It is the normal length 8 with a Gallardo 10 cylinder engine retuned for broader range of power. I love my car but I have to say I am jealous of all you 2 seater owners. With 5 kids I am not seeing one any time soon.

I suspect it is not so simple- read as impossible. Even though you could ignore the Power Reserve function, make a custom movement ring and simply be working with a date only watch your problems will still be spacing between center pinion and the date window, custom making a date wheel for the date at 6 and finally finding a correct thickness movement that allows correct alignment of the crown height with the case tube while leaving the dial at the correct height. Just go buy another rep and get the movement serviced.

With the spate of new 24A's going to forum members I thought I would mention a tip I learned the hard way. My friends know I have owned a number of bezel engraved subs over the years so this is based on my experience. Other people may have had a different onee and should pipe in with any other suggestions. This is all to avoid "difficult to repair" scratches and dings since it is a real pain in the neck to polish them out without removing the bezel. Rule #1 Keep the lumed bezel dot either at 6 or 12. I have found that at those locations it is almost impossible to strike it directly when your wrist strikes against a wall or door. Dent that metal bezel surround and it is almost impossible to fix. Gouge the lume and you have an expensive fix as well. Rule #2 If you ignore Rule 1 at least make sure that the major markers are not on the diagonal. I find that the diagonal markers are the one that get scratched most frequently. And you don't want to dent the engraved numbers if you can avoid it. Rule #3 Don't wear that watch in cement pools. I can't tell you how many times I get out of the pool having felt nothing and there is a good size ding or scratch. This one my be irrelevant as most people don't take their watches swimming. So take it for what it is worth. I am sitting here having a heck of a time getting rid of a couple more scratches as I write this. Polished bezels look great but do require upkeep unless you are going for the "I just came up from a 1,000 foot dive" look. After all, those rocks on the bottom of the sea can cause real damage. I would leave it. IMHO, the chance of you successfully matching up the base black without having to clearcoat the entire dial and changing the sheen is low. And I have seen too many people who have ended up with an "odd patch" which drives all the OCD folks (myself included) nuts. The sheen on the original first generation rep dial is remarkably close to the gen - leave it that way. The other more obvious tell if that is the dial we are talking about is the six marker extending too high (close to the sub dial). I elected not to fix that either. Other people may have more informed opinions having actually done the dial modification. I do a fair amount of modding to my timepieces but I generally try and stay away from the dial mods. But that is just me.

In my neck of the woods the service center will not touch the older movements. But the authorized guys do it on the side for $400 - $500. And just to reiterate what Folks have said the minute you have $2000 or more into a Franken you most likely own that baby for life. You should keep it and enjoy it. It is difficult to move a gen dial and movement white sub for $2000 or more as the gens are $4k ish. The red subs are even tougher because there is no really good red sub re-dial. No one seems to know how to properly lay down the multiple layers of white and then red inki to get the proper red effect. And the gen dial for that franken starts at $3.5 - 4k as people are always buying the dial to convert their $4k sub into a $8k red. So the headline is wear it and enjoy it.
