What they all said. Pics are obviously gen. There is no rep in the 44mm size. I would move on but if you are determined to try go with pick-up by you or a friend who is in the area. I have asked more than one local member here to go check on a watch for me and everyone is generally happy to do it given a reasonable timeframe. The thrill of the hunt... I would not invest the money on the "plane trip". Not to go see Frumpy Jack or whatever his name is.
Ken-
Welcome to the Board. With the current state of high end reps it is a great way to play in brands you might not otherwise buy. It may even result in your buying a gen you never intended to. Enjoy the ride.
Oh my god! He lives. Great to see you dusting off the workbench.
Needless to say, fabulous project and Lani is a lucky guy. Most importantly, it is great to see you on the board.
Somehow it works for a number of Haute Horologie brands - AP (Boutique Diver - NYC, etc.) I have to admit that simply slapping on a caseback with no other design or movement changes is somewhat disappointing.
Welcome! All of the dealers who are listed here have withstood the test of time. You should decide on your budget and what model you want and then people can help you figure what and whom to buy from.
Congrats on a very nice set of frankens. So here is the question? Do you get more pleasure out of wearing the gens or the frankens. I know what I get more pleasure from.
Yes. In fact a number of their new models (NYC Boutique among others) are that made. I have always wondered why no one has done a good replication. You lose all the offset pusher/crown issues.
Wow, congrats B. They are beautiful. I had always heard that they made a few L models but I did once ask a Panerai authorized repair person who said he didn't know whether there were any initially made but were being used for some period o time as service dials. In any case, they look great and are a piece of Panerai memorabilia in their own right.
I am working on an Angelus project and need input from current owners of Angelus SF 240 movements. Could folks who already own a movement or watch with this movement post a good picture or two of their movements including all bridge plates and the regulator. If for whatever reason you don't want to post publicly please send me a PM including pics. In short I am trying to conduct a survey as to the plate shapes and finish of movements owned by members. All input is appreciated. Please bear in mind that I want pictures of movements actually owned by members rather than generic pictures. If anything comes of this I will let folks know.
The immediate issues I see are:
There is no clear case back power reserve. That case back set-up comes from the early El-primero based Panerai watches. Second the gen has no date setting button on the side of the case. That is the instant tell on the wrist. The 21j Asian movement in the watch requires that and the gen movement adjusts the date from the crown. Keep reading and you will find you can do better.
Holy crap, I looked at the pic before reading the verbiage (don't we all) and instantly thought one had to be the rep and I better get me one. And I will add a bi-metal for good measure.
