  1. Ubi- Credit cards can be important credit builders. However, if you are contemplating making larger purchases that you plan on paying back over a period of months you are better off getting a home equity line with associated debit/credit card. It has a strong impact on your credit score and the rates are typically around prime (approx. 7% currently). You pay principal whenever you feel like it. Otherwise the traditional credit cards I am familiar with typically will run at a minimum of 12% annual rate. To all you folks who have never been late, I salute you. I certainly can't say the same. And Sergio is right, if you invest in the annual fee for Amex it can provide a lot of good things.
  2. Not familiar with those two. Cuisiana, Copiagua and Ocensa Pipeline in Columbia. Phillipines - several different islands with significant DNC issues. Congo - the whole place is scary from a business person's perspective. The independent contractors are critical to investment in these and many other places.
  3. I am with you. No watches I would lose sleep over go in the water. I find that many folks who wear expensive gens (other than dedicated dive watches) are folks with no idea what they are wearing. In effect they treat it as jewelry. It used to drive me crazy when my significant other would routinely wear very expensive (too me) gen to the beach and everywhere else. Her comment was "what is the point of having a watch if you have to worry about it". She had no appreciation for the watch value - only the jewelry value. She will wear jewelry in any circumstance and not worry about it. Needless to say I quickly bought her a lower priced gen. The guys I know that are walking around with $10,000 or more on their wrist tend to own them because they are prestigious or they like the way they look. Obviously, if the watch is on a leather band they do take them off in environmentally hazardous conditions (to protect the leather - ). But if the watch is on a metal bracelet they think it is automatically bulletproof. Maybe we know too much. Of course the funniest part is that I lose more sleep over my modded reps than the gens.
  4. And the scary thing on the Brlins is that cost is not the issue on the gens. It is availability. I thank god every day that you can never get the color you want.
  5. . Anyone with a fancy watch should also own a waterproof seiko or Nike. Common sense.
  6. I was not aware of the old/new case issue. I had assumed they made a limited number of titanium cases as it requires a different manufacturing process than SS (a lot more pressure). Mine came with the old school 7750 and sure enough it broke down very quickly.
  7. Over the years I have encountered private armies hired by corporations. Although I have no idea of their role in true war situations, they play an important (and beneficial) role in many situations. As examples in my work as an international banker type (and I use that description loosely ) one corporate client who developed one of the larger oil fields and pipelines in Columbia had a security force much larger than the local military or rebels. Without it that resource would never have been developed. I have come upon similar situations in the Phillipines and in certain African countries. Without those forces there would be no infrastructure or natural resource development in many countries. And those "evil" foreign corporations when they act properly provide a lot of local employment as well as government revenue. Now if it is a corrupt government...
  8. Echoing other folks sentiment. My gen AP leaked like a sponge and now it needs a new movement ($1,500). A gen Breitling sat on my wrist at the beach. The crystal just pops off. What makes you think gens are anymore waterproof than reps. On this matter it is not that reps are not reps or gens are gens. A watch is a watch. A watch that is properly serviced, greased and sealed will do better than one that is not. I don't swim with gens anymore - only reps. But they are all properly serviced compliments of Ziggy. Whether Josh does it before you receive it or you get it done afterwards most better reps can be made "swimproof'. And no one has ever criticized me for taking off a watch (gen or rep) before going swimming. That AP still sits on my desk as a paperweight.
  9. In NYC, the bag this year is the Jimmy Choo red bag. I may have to give in and buy a gen for the wife on this one. It is a must have for any woman who collects Jimmy's shoes. In this town every self respecting woman has too many Jimmy's and Manolo's.
  10. What, no PAM's? Stunning collection. But don't wear that gen Daytona too often or you are going to lose your rep street creds. Seeing your SD makes me long for my beautiful White SD which, compliments of all your great help, sits with Rob awaiting that "crowning touch".
  11. Fabulous. Nothing more to say. Wear it well.
  12. Hmmmm. Is this the right movement for a white SD or red sub?
  13. Are there any reps or gens that have this "PVD Gold" coating?
  14. Presumably the finish can be rectified. The person I bought it from had spent significant time polishing the polished parts. Now I just have to work on the brushing. And yes, that cross could be better engraved. Bearing in mind that it is a beautiful piece in its own right. A number of years ago I owned a gen Overseas and the bracelet was not nearly as beautiful as the current gen (or rep for that matter). The funny thing was that it needed to be serviced every couple of years or it quickly lost time.
  15. Hey I have that one too. Looks good and still keeping very good time. Still partial to the Jubilee if going with Gold otherwise the Malte Perpetual looks fabulous in steel.
  16. A father doesn't. That is the mother's job. Neil, looks fabulous. Witha a new source and Ziggy's new drill press I forsee a potential fully modded WMB in a certain Watchmeister's future. And it ain't Ubi or I.
  17. Ubi- You asked for it. Ziggy- I suspected you would give in. Archie- Now you have to give in. No excuses.
  18. Okay who is headed to Bangkok?
  19. I have the Rose Gold Jubilee and the perpetual calendar in gold and SS. I would go for for the Rose Gold Jubilee (power reserve). It looks incredibly dressy on the wrist.
  20. Hey I went by the Wempe store as well to check it out a few months ago too. Great minds... Flav- They look great. If you haven't done it yet, relume is a must to get it up to spec. I bought one from another member and actually he had the other color dial as well. So maybe I will swap it out in a couple of years.
  21. I assume it is the picture but the one above looks brushed where as all the other pics I have seen show highly polished.
  22. Gee, I wondered why he started it at no reserve. That is a bizarre set of listings as he starts it as if acknowledging they are not gen and then has ridiculous writeups.
  23. You are doing better than me. My 243 is already on its way. I think I am going to pass on the lefty and hold out for the 187 and Northpole Angus is showing to round out the year. As a righty, I find the Destro crown guard actually feels weird on the arm. I ended up trading my 217 for that reason.
