I just keep coming back. Stunning piece. If i had that one it would be getting a lot fo wrist time on my end as well. Frankly, a lot more wrist time than my gens. Between all the work done on it and the special parts that is one I know you look down at your wrist and it brings back fond memories of getting the project together.
Depending on what was wrong on the prototype, it may be worth more than the final. But I do still treasure mine - it is an artifact from another time..
Both are great reps and with an 8 inch wrist you can certainly wear either. I would start with the Fiddy. it is the black dial 47mm classic. I own a few PAM's and that is the one that gets the most wrist time. But it is personal preference. Both are stunning reps.
Too funny. I actuall bought one of each (ti and SS) and added Swissie and a gen dial. The ti resides with my teenage son who loves it. The SS has been sitting in my desk for years ever since I stripped the crown or maybe the tube. All I know is I can't screw down the crown.
Totally forgot about that one. It is a super rep although the ti finish is not identical to the gen. That has been my complaint about all the earlier IWC ti reps - Ingy Chrono, GST, etc.
Dave- I know you think QC pics are worthless but I do find them to be useful and although I am not a particularly frequent flyer it has worked for me. I have opted to wait for a different watch twice in the recent past and felt what I got was an improvement over the first watch shown.
I would add one more thought. Once you decide who to use and there are any number of reliable dealers here I would tend to stick with the same dealer if the results are good. I have always found that dealers go the extra mile for repeat customers.
Although I haven't seen the latest I always felt that the 3717 and a couple of the derivatives were pretty darn good. I have heard nothing which says the Portuguese series movements have been rectified but aesthetically they were fairly good as well. As someone else mentioned with a new datewheel the Ingy can be really good too. I have not seen a review of any of the new Aquatimers but the problem typically was that the inner bezel was not lumed and that is a fatal flaw. And then of course there is the 1st generation non-functioning power reserve Big Pilot. The only thing with that one is that you have to make sure you get a raised datewheel and need to reset the power reserve toward the end of the 7 or 8 day range.
And that is what makes the forum great. Rolli, very nice comparison. Somehow this looks like another buy both and combine the best parts. Why does it always end up that way.
Interesting. You are the first person I have heard this happening too. I was under the impression that they normally sent QC pics to everyone. My fingers are crossed for you as it sounds like you may be facing a drop ship situation.
I would guess Best Swiss is marketing the actual 304 steel version which appears brighter than 316 as 904 which is consistent with their approach of selling, at best, the same rep, lying about its attributes and then doubling, tripling or even quadrupling the price you can buy from trusted dealers. There is nothing wrong with asking the question as a noob but we never want to hear about them again.
As you probably know Josh sends you a tracking # as soon as you order. That doesn't mean he shipped it. If you think about it QC pics are also an inventory control tool. I would guess he hasn't received your watch from the factory (I.e. doesn't have one in inventory) and so you will get the QC pics when he has a watch to ship you.
I agree on the 1680 preference. It's funny but I don't think I have ever seen a 16610 Comex rep. I suppose you could get one commissioned but that will set you back and additional $400 or so.
