  1. I would hold off on that order until it is plugged into the rep case. There are clearly two points of contact (ergo the two gaskets) on the gen so I need to see whether it works as is or what needs to be done to the case to have it achieve the same functionality. Remember the rep crystal is simply a barrel crystal so there may be rework to the exterior bezel. Where this will get interesting is adapting the "above the bezel aesthetic" onto a rep base for an excellent crystal for all the non-franken reps. The purpose of this purchase was two fold.
  2. Transitional subs and datejusts are not really my cup of tea either. I say sell it.
  3. Well I suppose it is comparable to the legendary Ubi/Ziggy 5514 asimplefarmer is sporting. By the way, Daniel be forewarned none of the watches above are anything like stock.
  4. You always need to make your own mind up. Both reps are great for different reasons and everyone has to pick what is more important to them. I am always obsessed with gen construction and have difficulty getting over non oem construction on the bezel set-up of the H factory but that is me. My very general observation is that there is more to fix on a given Noob model but they are upgradeable or replaceable. And of course Dealers at some level will push what they have got.
  5. Very nice group there. I do prefer the Assolutamente strap.
  6. There are pics somewhere around here of someone who did it. Needless to say the end links are not going to match up perfectly.
  7. Just stop it. The piece is gorgeous. Go find a new project.
  8. PAM did change over their crown tube to a hexagon so that i correct. If the crown looks high off the case and it is really tough to close the lever it is possible that the crown should be a tad closer to the case. I don't own one so I don't know if the adjustor actually works or whether the stem requires a tad shaving.
  9. They never made a bracelet for the Cousteau (rep or gen). One or two folks did fit a Slevin bracelet if I remember correctly though.
  10. The can part is true but so is the other, with the exception of professional athletes and select rap stars.
  11. I am sure V5 is what I call V4. I think I am missing a version. You want v.5.
  12. That is the question. I just snapped a couple of pics before sending it to Ziggy this week. My best guess is that it works within the exterior bezel but won't fit with the rep tachy ring. The taller tachy ring on the rep enables the rep manufacturer to use a thinner and simpler barrel crystal. The gen is engineered in reverse - finding the best way to seal the watch from the elements - ergo the two gasket system. If that is the case I will probably have Ziggy make a new plexi with the appropriate height and bevel characteristics above but fitting for the rep below and then see if it is economic to do a run. I still have a rep or two left and a couple of folks knowing about the prior crystal project have been asking about it. And no this is not an advertisement to sell crystals. If it is plausible and economic I will let folks know. It's all god fun.
  13. Although some versions are better than others I have never been happy with the rep crystals on the Offshores. I even tried my hand with another member on a run of crystals which was not a happy ending. When that didn't work I then reached out to a certain watchsmith in the Great North and had him carve out the perfect "crystal" out of plexiglass based on gen pictures graciously provided by another member with a gen. And when he had finished it he came back to me and let me know it looked nothing like the crystal on the rep (okay it was round ). At that point curiousity got the better of me (and I sold off a watch or two) so I went for it and picked up a gen crystal. And needless to say the watchsmith had it exactly right. Rather than a "barrel" it required a proper "step-in" so that the crystal can properly mount in the bezel, poke through the bezel and provide a real seal. In any case, here is the gen crystal which comes with two gaskets.
  14. You want the v4. The progression is the following: V1 - Completely wrong finish. Brushed ti V2 - Dealers took remainder of wrong cases and applied beadblasting on top V3 - Proper beadblasting only and added polished edges on the CG's. Gen has them V4 - All of the above with ar'ed cyclcops and supposedly better caseback engraving Now I may be missing an intermediary version but the headline is go with the latest.
  15. That is what they say about our "big" watches.
  16. Why would you hammer on A7750 hands onto a gen movement? It will be a killer piece when it is done.
  17. It is literally too big for anyone to wear. But I am still dying to buy one. What can I say....it looks cool.
  18. So these are going to be sold separately. I assumed that it was a preview of v3 or something like that.
  19. Let's see....Girard Perregaux, Panerai, etc. And here is the next guy. Let's see how long this one lasts. I always laugh at that particular Ferrari - watch tie up because you either own a Ferrari and would never be caught dead wearing the watch or you own the $5 tee shirt and can't afford it.
  20. Very nice tip there. But now you've ruined me. By the way my gens don't look that good, seriously.
  21. There may be new Daylights coming but I don't see the factories making a new movement. They will likely go with the same "A7753". And actually I haven't heard of a lot of problems with them but others can chime in. If you love the 251 then go for it.
  22. I am with Tom...I went the gen dial and hands, swapped a standard Swiss ETA movement and called it a day. I still have an order in for a foreign day/datewheel set and crown and pushers but stayed away from gen movement or case.
  23. If you never wear it, don't particularly like it, and the giver is no longer meaningful to you or really won't care of you sell it than do it...whether you buy reps, another gen or simply keep the money for a rainy day.
  24. First, as you probably noticed 7750 and 7753 are two different movements functionally and aesthetically. One is not a subtitute for the other. The 7753 has quick set date pusher and date at 4 o'clock. 7750 has date change integrated into the crown and date at 3 o'clock. In terms of reps, when you see a watch listed as having an A7753 it is not an equivalent to an ETA 7753. There is no true 7753 Asian equivalent. What dealers call A7753 is a standard A7750 with a couple of "gears" to move the date. Those couple of gears can cause problems. Think of it as any rep of a watch that on the gen uses an ETA 7753 is using a bastardized 7750. But a 7750 based gen chrono can use an Asian equivalent.
