Thanks. I will send him a PM and check it out.

I have decided to get an alligator Nubuck JV strap for my Fiddy. The OEM's are great but expensive and in my neck of the wood are never in stock. For all you folks who have worked with the various strap makers who would you suggest? Thanks in advance

The Cornerstone 5000th Post Commemorative Timepiece
Watchmeister replied to cornerstone's topic in General Discussion
What took you so long? I am "kruzing" toward 10,000. Perhaps, I need to get a life. -
So now let's spice it up a little. Now that the deed is done and buyer#2 has the movement do you offer it to buyer #1 if he is one of the known hoarders of Angelus movements and there are a few on the forums. Of course as I write this I have no idea who buyer and seller are. Just curious whether people's opinions change.
-
Good to hear. Thank you for that clarification. And of course I want to know who the person was.
-
If I am reading the story correctly (and it is a big if), you wrote to a seller telling him you will pay more. Why? because you are hoping the seller is dishonest and greedy enough to hit your bid and screw the original buyer. Congratulations, you found a dishonest guy - success from your perspective. He is the scammer and you got what you want. So I don't think you have an ethical dilemma. You long since passed that. This is only coming up for fear of repercussions to you since it may come out on the forums. Bet you didn't hear that from anyone else. In fairness, many people act this way so you are not alone. I have been on the other end of one of those situations although I did not lose my money. It was a larger item and my lawyer advised going after the original seller (money had passed so a legal transaction had taken place) which I did and then informing the new buyer that he was in possession of stolen property and requesting it back which I didn't. I settled for getting my money back. And of course the seller is ultimately the scammer.

Did he give you a price?
-
Should be. Both the movement and 005 have running seconds. Didn't see a price though. I reiterate that the movements are available through the right watchsmith or supply house but the cost is north of $400 and you have to be careful as the winding mechanism can feel very different (almost too smooth) from the gen Panerai adapted version or even an Asian movement. As far as I know these movements are usually special order and as such you can't get discounts.

Concepta --- IWC Saint Exupery Pilot Chrono Limited Edition
Watchmeister replied to rckh's topic in The IWC Area
That is one heck of a franken. Wear it well. -
Rubber deployants are more comfortable for me too since the tail is much thinner. I do have to say that I hsve owned a few gens and the rubber straps actually seemed to vary based on either year or model it came with.

Who in their right mind busses tables wearing a Daytona? I wouldn't - even if it was gen.
-
I would normally say PAM but I see you have no Breit's which is a crime. Just ask Dave.

Flyback is exactly as it sounds. When your chrono is running you can reset while the chrono is still running rather than having to stop, reset and start it again. And although Maxman is right that it shouldn't matter, I can tell you that anyone who wants to try on your watch is going to try it. Not to test whether it is a rep but simply because it is a cool function. Whenever I have lent someone one of my chronos they always try it. I can promise you they are going to ask you what that extra button is for. I know I did before I knew what it was.
-
Too funny. I always wonder how people run into folks who would ever ask. It is so rude to ask anything like that. And by the way it isn't age when it comes to plausibility - it's either you or the obnoxiousness (read as chip on the shoulder) of the one asking. I and a number of other folks had the good fortune to afford very expensive watches at a young age and no one ever brought it up. And my kids and their friends wear expensive watches and no one has ever questioned them. Of course my kids are wearing "loaners".
-
I haven't looked at the pics but I tend to stay away from flybacks. As far as I know there aren't any movements with the flyback function and somehow a rep without the functionality of the gen turns me off.

PAM experts...Opinion if this dial is a fake?
Watchmeister replied to chiman12's topic in The Panerai Area
I vote fake for a whole bunch of reasons. It is always difficult to tell from pictures but a combination of the spacing on the l Swiss l text, the formation of the 6 and a very straight run on the long side, numerical thickness versus text thickness and even what is going on where the chip is. I have seen a good number of chipped dials and this one looks off in terms of what is underneath. -
Congratulations on a really nice piece. You should be proud. And somehow, I don't think it will be your last.

A few questions about mods for 236 Daylight
Watchmeister replied to Craig S's topic in The Panerai Area
I haven't owned a gen 236 but have owned a couple other gen daylights and they were all C-3. Someone else can confirm on the 236 specifically. The good thing about the later daylights is that the dials are not nearly as difficult to lume as the legendary 196 - in my eyes still the asset test of lume competency. -

I have not done it but I am told you can transplant a 7753 easily into the case. You can't use he datewheel from you A7753. You would have to buy an aftermarket one from Leo. Taka or whoever currently has them in stock. -
I actually think everything has changed dramatically. The rep business is a much bigger business. There is no question that we are the pimple on the ass of the baboon. We have real factories, real dealers, and even real distribution including QC and ability to return for black market goods. Pretty good, huh? The real question is who is doing the fishing? Is it the factories or the dealers? I now understand the economics of the dealers and factories. People invest real money into gens, tooling and runs are now in the thousands. There are multiple dealers for any given watch. The factories really have the power. The dealers are price takers just like we are. And with all the options available to us the forums have shifted from protecting the members from the dealers to protecting us from ourselves (member to member trades)and providing buyers with proper advice as to what to buy. And yeah, I remember my post the first time.

Well, you know the explicit version is always more expensive. -

"Look. listen. learn.... If you do not have diamonds....it does not work." The bling man sounds like certain women we all know. And yeah Dave, even we know that isn't you. You ain't that fat.
