Please help with choosing 360 version & movement swap
lfovco replied to lfovco's topic in The Panerai Area
That's very interesting, thank you for your responses. I'm glad to hear that the movemen is not really as bad as I thought. I just had a bad experience with Asian movement that died even after being serviced, while my "Swiss" reps keep going strong even after close to 7 years of use. -
If I were you I would not bother with gen strap and finding one. There are strap makers that make way better straps then genuine Panerai straps for less money. And they are way, way better and nicer and cool looking. Spend some time doing research and look up various high end strap makers. You can buy a super nice strap from anywhere from low $100's and up. I personally got some straps from http://www.manifatturefirenze.it/home.php, had them shipped from Italy to US. Some I have been wearing for over 6 years now and the quality and finish beats genuine strap, that's my personal opinion. Their prices are reasonable and they also optionally offer smaller sizes for smaller wrists for some extra $$.

Hello, I have been researching 360 and reading various posts. I ended up with looking at these two which I believe are the only choices: http://www.puretimew...-leather-strap/ and http://www.yourtrust...roducts_id=8477 The one from puretime is obviously Version 2 and I'm guessing the other one from trusty is version 1? I'm assuming the version 2 is newer and better/more accurate and better made model, there is a slight price difference as well. In their pirctures the PVD finish looks completely different, I'm guessing they are probably the same but the photos were taken at completely different exposure settings. Could you please tell me what are the main differences between those two models and which one would be the best choice to get? I'm also interested in switching the Asian movement that I assume is crap to Swiss Unitas 6497-1 from http://www.ofrei.com/page_183.html the FB-3016-HF - $148. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Panerai 386M Composite 1950 - Thoughts Anyone?
lfovco replied to paneraiguy's topic in The Panerai Area
I was wondering about it too the other day as this model is on my radar, curious to hear what others will say. -
Great, I have been waiting for one that's reasonably priced with that level of acuracy for a long time.
-
Looks great. How do you like it so far? I'm thinking of getting one as well.
-
That looks pretty nice!

When you get a new one, make sure you service it asap. My Swiss 6497 replica of Pam 111 has been running for 6 and half years really well. I had it serviced within a month of getting back in early 2005. My Swiss 6497 rep of Pam Black Seal has been running well since 2005 as well. And my IWC Ingenieur that I got in 2006 is also running really well. But my Asian Chrono PAM which was also serviced in the first year died 4 years later. The cost of another service did not make sense anymore since it's almost as much as buying another one. Servicing chronos is expensive. I ended up trashing it into pieces. Despite that there are decent reviews of Asian movements, I would not buy one. I'd only get reps with Swiss movement.

I wonder how much better it will get. Unfortunately there is too many things wrong with it to get it.

Kbh, that's very cool, thanks for the info. Is it pretty easy to change it? Looks like it's not a huge deal in the pictures. I assume that the current crown will work with that tube. Thanks..

On the prototype -2 the CG lever still looks weird. Still sticks out way too far and the shape is not correct. If that can be fixed that would be this 359 a quite desirable rep.
-
Thanks for the info guys.

Yes, I meant PAM 183. It seems like it may be too much hassle and potentially expensive. I guess I'll keep it until it completely wears off and maybe reuse the movement for something else. Thanks for the info.

I have a PAM 183 Black Seal. Very first model that came out from Eddie Lee. I got it from him back in 2005. After all these years the tube has not much life left in it, I figure another year or so to go, maybe less. It only lasted that long because it is not a watch I wear every day. Plus I was insanely careful about it. I have been searching for information if anyone makes the tube and crown set that's much better quality, that would last for many years but I had no luck finding any info. I would really appreciate any information in that regards. THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Wow, this is a really crappy rep. I was hoping for a good one to come out.
-
That is so awesome!!! The whole process. Even if it is not 100% accurate like all the reps aren't anyway it will still be great. I was just thinking about it this morning, how picky can you be? I have been wearing Eddie Lee 111 since March 2005, that's 6 years already. It is not perfect although I upgraded it with new crown guard and crown. All I want to say that after all those years it does not bother me it has small flaws or completely incorrect looking movement. In the end it looks awesome, works great, keeps great time (serviced) and make me happy. I'll be getting that 359 even with small flaws, but I hope the lever that sticks out way too much will get fixed. Once it does then I'm sold.

Anonimo cases are also much better quality then Panerai. So if you consider a gen you can still get one at a decent discount.
-
I wonder if the Chinese movement can be replaced with this ETA 6497 http://www.ofrei.com/page1201.html
-
Very nice piece but Iwonder about the quality of the crown tube and the crown. I have a very first radiomir that I got back in 2005 from El and although I have been extremely careful throughout the years the tube does not have much life left in it since the metal is such a low grade. I wonder if they are any better these days.

Thanks a lot torresp, I just got your email and sent you back a response. I do like the options you have offered. And I really like the watch a lot and intend to keep it for a very long time. For anyone else, Torresp is super nice and professional, he has offered very good solutions and I feel that I accepted the best one. People like that make that forum so great. Thanks :-)

Yes, I did and I'm waiting for a response.

Hi NoobyPanFan, Thanks for your response. I was actually just thinking this morning about different things I may have to do to resolve this. Placing a small metal disk on top of the crown that you just mentioned was something I thought of as an interesting solution. I wonder what glue can hold metal and titanum together. Getting a completely new CG with a new lever may be tricky as I would not know if the lever foot is going to be tall enough. Unless it's one that was created for a rep with a thin crown, maybe it would work. Thanks again

Hello, I have just received Titanum Panerai 40b that I purchased from another member. Original thread and watch pics are here: http://www.rwgforum.com/topic/124276-ps-pam-40b/topic/124276-ps-pam-40b/ The watch has a big problem with the CG lever that was never mentioned. When CG lever is in locked position it basically barely touches the surface of the crown, it almost looks like it is not touching it at all. In result it just keep floating open when being worn. It also looks like the CG lever has been tampered with. So I tried the CG+Lever from my SS, old Eddie Lee 111 and even that lever cannot stay in. It's a huge bummer cause the watch is very nice in general with nice mods and great looking crown. It's just practically unwearable because of the CG lever floating and opening problem, and at 400 Euros it wasn't cheap either. I'm looking for an advice as far as what can be done to fix that. Can there be something done to the surface of the crown, like adding a thin layer of "something" to crowns surface. Please help. I would really like hear some advice from the resident experts. I'd hope I could be pointed towards someone who cold fix that as my hands-on skills are very poor. Thanks a lot!
