  1. After letting this thread sit around for a few weeks, I finally have something to add to it. My father liked mreynolds idea so much that he decided to send an email to Nevada Senator Henry Reed and present it along with my fathers original idea posted in the beginning of this thread. Unfortunately, it looks like Harry Doesnt actually read his emails. He obviously read the subject line and returned this email to me today. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for contacting me about the state of our national economy. I appreciate hearing from you. The domestic auto industry employs directly or supports indirectly millions of jobs across the country, and its business activities generate hundreds of billions of dollars in financial instruments held around the globe. As you know, the recent economic downturn and crisis in our financial markets has destabilized the industry and its workforce. The credit crisis abruptly choked off financing for consumers and businesses and sapped consumer confidence, both of which led to dramatically lower sales figures for the domestic auto companies. The dramatic drop in sales created a dangerous shortage of cash, which these firms need to continue production and honor their financial commitments. A failure of one company could potentially bring down the other automakers as well since the entire industry depends on the same network of suppliers. This event could lead to the loss of potentially millions of jobs, including hardworking Americans employed at manufacturing plants and independent dealerships. At a time when the unemployment rate is rising each quarter, this level of job loss would only exacerbate the strain on our economy. That is why I urged Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to use the authority extended in the recently passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act (EESA, P.L. 110-343) to provide emergency funds to the auto companies while imposing strong conditions on such assistance in order to protect taxpayers and maximize the potential for the industry's recovery. Although Secretary Paulson has expressed the need to avoid the failure of any of the major domestic car companies, so far he has publicly said he is unwilling to utilize the Troubled Asset Relief Program created by EESA to extend relief to nonfinancial institutions. In response, I recently introduced S.3688, which would amend the EESA to require the Treasury Secretary to extend up to $25 billion of the allotted funds as loans to automakers and suppliers that have struggled in the face of a nationwide credit crunch. I understand the view that mismanagement of the auto companies has brought them to this point, and that they should be restructured to ensure long-term viability. That is why this legislation would require participating companies to submit a plan demonstrating how use of the funds will ensure the long-term financial posture of the company while aggressively pursuing the production of energy-efficient vehicles. I have noted the concerns that you and many others have expressed. I assure you that as I continue to work towards improving our nation's economy, I will keep your thoughts and best interests in mind. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with me. For more information about my work for Nevada, my role in the United States Senate Leadership, or to subscribe to regular e-mail updates on the issues that interest you, please visit my Web site at http://reid.senate.gov. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. My best wishes to you. Sincerely, A HARRY REID United States Senator Nevada ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can you say GENERIC? I hate [censored] like this. Whats the point in contacting these people? You try to make a difference and they could care less about what you are really trying to say. I know that the auto industry is in need of bailout and that our economy cant afford to let them fail....but please....atleast address the purpose of the letter to some degree.
  2. This guys got a little bit of everything.... Here's todays ticker....
  3. Thank you! Thats all I really needed....a couple extra opinions. This thread has run its course.
  4. Thanks for the reply! The guy who bought it is the one who asked for my help. He hasnt paid for it yet.
  5. The new forum does not remember me. I had to re=register my user name....lost my entire post count and anything that I did on the old forum. Also, there are no sub forums yet....just a guest forum.
  6. Bump 41 lookers and not one person chimed in? Surely one of the Omega gurus around here can put in his two bits. Is it the link you are worried about? Its safe. Goes straight to TZ.
  7. A fella over at another forum has asked me to check out this PO and determine if it is gen or rep. TZ PO The bracelet look gen for sure....actually, the whole watch looks pretty damn good. Im callin it a gen. Second opinions please. Thx.
  8. I was a little surprised to see his watch today.... Patak Philippe Gondolo.... This one Later, he got off the phone with a friend and said to me, "Have you ever heard of Jean Dunand?" I said, "Yes, I think so" (Even though I knew damn well I hadn't.) He says (In Russian accent), "My friend just bought special edition Jean Dunand, cost him about $500,000." Wow! I said. He then says, "Ah, its nothing for him....chump change." Then hopped into his $90,000 Jag and took off. Perhaps it is this one covered with diamonds....not sure though.
  9. Its her diary, blog, personal thoughts, etc.... As stupid as she sounds, she just wants to express her opinions. I agree that her writing ability is awful. She is in no danger of convincing anyone that she has glorious intelligence. It's hard to say what her true motivations are; most likely she is attempting to draw attention to herself, although she might actually care about those issues. I guarantee you that letter did not get sent to Obama. The letter is just part of her blog, diary, etc.... The title is misleading because it leads the reader to believe that the letter was actually sent.....not a chance, even if it says somewhere in her blog that she sent it. Nor do I believe that the letter is in any way an attempt to actually inform Obama of her thoughs. Also, beyond her boobs, many reasons exist for being a Pam fan. I assume that Pam has several female fans; certainly not all of them are interested in her [censored]. I find your reasoning on that subject childish and sexist.
  10. The first thing you need to do is go out and buy a stamp pricing guide. You can find them at any bookstore. The second thing you need to do is separate the USA stamps from all others. Typically, USA stamps will have the highest value. Then you need to go through the stamps one by one and price them out. You should start with stamps that have notable figures....like Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington....etc. It should be easy to price out those stamps. If he was an avid stamp collector, then there should be some organization to the collection....perhaps by year. That will help you price them out.
  11. Thanks for the correction. My bad. The ^ represents power.....like 5 to the power of 3.... (5^3)=125 The * is multiply.
  12. LOL. Google hopes to expand to Nepal by the end of the month. Heres another nice feature than many of us can use in our hobby.... You can track packages by typing the tracking number for your UPS, Fedex or USPS package directly into the search box. Google will return results that include quick links to easily track the status of your shipment. Cheers
  13. Although many of you already know about the cool features of the Google calculator, I thought it would be fun to explain some of its unique features. Have you ever wondered what time it is on the other side of the world? Yes, many internet websites can provide the time of any country; but Google has made it easy as pie. Lets say you want to know what time it is in Bangladesh. Just log on to Google and type time bangladesh, and your question will instantly be answered. It does not end there however. You can do this also.... weather bangladesh Or if you need a map.... map bangladesh Maybe your tired of finding Euro currency calculators. Google makes it simple.... 100 us dollars into euro Yen to.... 100 us dollar into yen And almost all currencies.... 100 us dollars into canadian dollars Wanna go to a movie? Try this.... just type "Movies (your zip code)" For example.... movies 98012 Hmmm....how many inches are in a mile?.... mile into inches How many quarts in a gallon anyway?..... gallons into quarts How many square feet is the amazon rain forrest?.... 1584000 square miles into square feet Hows the Dow Jones Ind Average today? .... Learn more HERE Hope you enjoyed this!
  14. We got ourselves a good ole' fashioned Sherlock Holes here.... Nice work man....but they guy still writes like Meat....
  15. No problem. I try my best with threads like this. I love to investigate and dig around on the web. Usually I can come up with some good pics and help solve the mystery. With this one, unfortunately, not much information is out there and this photo is the only one that shows a decent shot of the watch. Other photos exist, but are poorer quality than this one. My google searches came up empty handed.
  16. He writes like Meat....remember??....You pal, Meat??
  17. Not sure of this one....Longines was popular during this time period.
  18. He slipped in today for a few moments, just to check in and see how things are goin. From the other side of the office he says "Steve, come over here, you are going to like this." I assumed that he was going to give us some good news about the company or some business related stuff. To my surprise, when I came over to where he was sitting, he holds out his hand and says, "I just bought this yesterday; have you heard of Audemar Piquet?" He hands me his new Royal Oak. He said it was $9000. In shock....I accidentally dropped it on the floor.... JUST KIDDING! Its a beautiful watch with a see through case back....definately not a rep. I was impressed by the detail of the rotor and the balance wheel design. SS bracelet with blue dial. I asked him what kind of watch he was wearing the other day....the one I thought was a Franck Muller....he says "I have no idea, I cant remember. Maybe it was a Ulysses Nardin, I dont remember." I asked him if it was a Franck and he still couldnt remember....although he said that he does own a couple Franck's...including a Master Banker and Conquistador. I asked him where he gets his watches and he said that he buys them online from private collectors! That was a shock....I wonder if he has ever been scammed. He said that he bought a Patek perpetual calendar online for $4000 and sold it earlier this year for $11,000. I was going to ask him how many watches he owns, but quickly decided that might not be appropriate. Im gonna tread lightly and privately drool over his collection....
  19. I agree; the poster is insulting. You should have sent iceberg a PM instead of reposting the picture....kind of defeats the purpose....know what I mean?
  20. I think thats a great [censored] idea. It doesnt take this long to fix CPU exceeded errors....obviously nothing is being done to fix the old place.... Trolling around in this looney bin is like being a prisoner of war waiting to be shipped off to a refugee camp.... Id like to share a revelation that ive had during my time here....
  21. That would violate replica watch law #2....NEVER ADMIT TO ANYONE THAT YOU OWN A REPLICA WATCH. I suppose that among close and personal friends its okay....but not others and certainly your new boss who wears $10,000 tickers.... I believe he was referring to the Omega 8500 / 8501....in some aspects it is a revolutionary design. Yesterday he wore a Franck Muller (Conquistador I believe) SS with black dial arabic.
  22. Yep! Thats right, and now I remember that he mentioned something to that extent and that he would bring it to work for me to read also. I couldnt tell what he was wearing today. The watch was slim, on SS with a power reserve and a couple other subdial thingies. I saw the dial only from afar. I was a little dissapointed that I could not make out the name....usually I can. Something tells me it was A Lange Sohne, but I could not find the exact watch on google images.
  23. I have been a devoted PC user for about 10 years. After talking with several people and reading posts like this one from Pugwash, I cant help but think that that technological bandwagon has left me behind. Also, to support this, I find it rather suggestive that Microsoft feels the same way, considering that they have attempted to immitate the Mac with Vista. My next computer will be a Mac laptop.
  24. I read an article today about how Roger Moore is dissapointed with the modern Bond movies. He complains of too much violence and how that has not been a part of the traditional Bond image. Poor old Roger, 81 years old, doesnt understand that times change.
